Name: Abigail Suspected Breed(s): Boxer mix Gender: Female Age: ~1 year old Weight: 44 lbs Personality: Friendly, playful, eager to please, shy, quiet, adaptable, snuggler, loyal, gentle, calm, affectionate Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs. More comfortable around smaller dogs like her foster brother, a medium size puggle. Observations with Cats: Good with the shelter cat Observations with Kids: Skittish around small, loud, unpredictable children she meets on the street. House Training Progress: No recent accidents Crate Training Progress: Learning to adjust to the crate. Has been left up to 3 hours in it. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Bladen County, NC Additional Information: The outside world can be an intimidating place to a shy, sweet girl like Abigail. But Abigail tries to stay upbeat and paw-sitive, if you are by her side.  Lovely and affectionate, Abigail just wants to sit and cuddle with you. As she becomes more acquainted with the hustle and bustle of city life, you’ll see her confidence grow, and those ears, once flat against her head, will perk up and her tail will wag. With each visit to her doggy daycare, Abigail becomes more social and playful with other dogs. At home, she gets along well with the low-key resident dog. A second dog at home can be comforting for Abigail when you are not around. Abigail is an amazing pup. She will make sure that you never lack for affection and companionship. This Bruce Banner is more like his human namesake than their alter ego. He is a big cat but worry not, he won’t turn into a big green fighting machine and stays in his sweet, lovable cat form. Bruce is incredibly smart, with multiple PhDs, so you may catch him occasionally conducting an experiment or two to answer his latest query, like how small a shoebox can be and still fit a cat. But aside from that, Bruce is ready for a relaxing life, full of head scratches, cat toys and cuddling. He gets along with others and is currently hanging out with his buddy Steve Rogers aka Captain America! Who’s ready to give Bruce the relaxing life he deserves? He did save the world a couple of times, right?! Bruce is an absolute sweetheart (and a big doof) and is guaranteed win over the hearts of anyone in the household. He LOVES attention and loves to cuddle so he constantly chases you around for pets and climbs on top of you when you're laying down. He's a great lapcat and would fit into any household without a problem. __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Name: Copeland Suspected Breed(s): Shepherd mix Gender: Male Age: 1 year old Weight: 55 lbs Personality: quick learner, playful, funny, protective, outgoing, affectionate, goofy, energetic, snuggler, eager to please, good running partner Observations with Dogs: Copeland is anxious when meeting dogs on walks, so he would do better in a quiet, less dense neighborhood. Observations with Cats: Tested well with cats Observations with Kids: Good with kids House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: Quiet in his crate Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Roane County, WV Additional Information: Copeland is a silly, fun, energetic and loving young dog. He pounces on toys like a champ and is generally a goofy and happy pup. He wants to bring all of his joy to his adopter! He promises to be a good boy if you'll give him lots of treats to help him put on some weight. Copeland has already learned "let's go", "sit", "go to mat", "trade", "go get it", and he is working on "come". He would make a terrific companion for anyone with a house and yard in which he can feel secure and fully express his playful nature. This goofy young boy loves socializing and playing, and he learns new games and commands very quickly. Copeland loves to go running, but he is also great inside. When company is over – including kids – he will make friends instantly and be the life of the party. He loves the outdoors but feels anxious and is reactive to crowded or busy city streets, so a quiet suburban environment would be the best fit for him. Apply today to meet handsome Copeland! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. He is sweet, affectionate, and low-key, but if he could write his life story we’re pretty sure it would be a page-turner. At some time in the past he suffered a spinal injury, but it’s not keeping him down. He climbs stairs and gets up on the bed just fine, but he walks with a wobble and would rather take it easy than get into mischief. Dilly can be a little shy at first and likes to approach you and rub against your legs or climb up for pets and cuddles once you’re sitting down. He has the sweetest small meow; sometimes it is even silent. Quiet and gentle, Dilly will thrive in a home where he can take life at his own pace and be appreciated for his warmth and wiggly charm. Dobby has a blast at day care and dog parks! He would do best in a home with another similar-sized dog (He is afraid of big dogs.) Observations with Cats: Tested well with cats Observations with Kids: Children’s sudden movements can upset him and make him anxious. For that reason he would do best in a home without children. House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: Dobby does not like the crate, but he is trusted to have free roam of the house.  Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Bladen County, NC Additional Information: Dobby is a sweet, caring and wonderful dog. He has the cutest habit of sitting on a stool so he can watch out the window as his people leave and return home. This fun boy is a loyal friend who loves to sit near (or on) his people and get belly rubs and ear scratches. Dobby is happy to sit near you quietly all day or go for a long walk, whatever you prefer. He’s also a huge fan of playing with his toys, and when playtime is over he drags them around the house as he lovingly follows his people around. He is a good learner, and he knows the command “leave it” and does very well with “drop it” if he isn’t feeling anxious. Dobby will do best in a home outside the city with another dog. Name: Dorothy Suspected Breed(s): Terrier mix Gender: Female Age: ~5 months (as of 4/18/2019) Weight: 12 lbs Personality: Playful, gentle, smart, shy, trainable Observations with Dogs: Great with other dogs. Playful but picks up on social cues and does not overstep. Observations with Cats: Good with her foster's cat Observations with Kids: Great with kids! Gentle with young children.  House Training Progress: Making great progress. She is learning to give a loud bark when she needs to go out. Dorothy is willing to invest the time in the training if you are! Crate Training Progress: Does well in crate, though not without a little initial bark in protest as if to say, “Do I really have to?” Sleeps in crate at night, but did well in first night uncrated. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Galax County, Virginia Additional Information: Even at her young age, Dorothy knows that there is no place like home. She’s looking for a family who will love her for her sweet disposition and playful nature. She already has two fans at her foster home---the resident dog and cat. Both of them enjoy Dorothy’s “play hard and then crash” approach to having fun. When playtime is over, Dorothy settles down and relaxes near her people. Calm and gentle for a puppy, she is also a quick study. When she knows it’s crate time, she is clever enough that she will not come over immediately! This beautiful girl is full of life and love and would be a great companion, especially in a home with another playful dog or cat.
