Name: Albert Suspected Breed(s): DSH/Tabby Gender: Male Age: 5 years Weight: 10 lbs Personality: Friendly, sweet, loves to eat, cuddly, playful Observations with Dogs: Unknown Observations with Cats: Unknown Observations with Kids: Unknown House Training Progress: Good litterbox manners Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Smyth County, VA Additional Information: Albert is a beautiful, affectionate kitty who will give you the feels! Besides eating and playing, his favorite activity is to purr and love you while getting cheek and head scratches. He warms up to any person or situation quickly and will be totally chill while socializing with a crowd. Although he's high energy, he's obedient, well behaved at night, and will respond to his name. Albert is quite the athlete and loves to play with you and almost any toy; a wand toy, balls, basically whatever you're willing to throw or drag for him. When he needs to burn off some energy he's also perfectly happy to run laps around the house or through a cat tunnel. Albert really enjoys eating, too. He's a wonderful, young-at-heart kitty who loves human interaction. Apply today to meet him in person, and you will fall in love. __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Name: Angus Breed: Terrier Blue Heeler Mix Gender: Male Age: 2 years old Weight: 35 lbs. Personality: Affectionate, quiet, shy, funny, gentle, calm, trainable, smart, playful, loyal, easygoing, friendly Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs -- would be best in a home with a confident dog. Observations with Cats: Ignores cats Observations with Kids: He did great with older kids, but he probably be best in a home without young children. House Training Progress: No recent accidents Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Roane County, WV Additional Information: Angus is an absolute sweetheart! This little snuggle bug loves being scratched and pet. He would hang out with you all day if he could. Angus is currently gaining the confidence to be left alone for extended periods. He’s happy to relax in his bed or the crate, but he loves playtime too. He and his new friend, Lander (a City Dogs alum!) have the best time zooming around the backyard together. Angus knows some tricks now too—like how to “sit”—and is working on "come.” He’ll do just about anything for his favorite food, hot dogs! On top of his super sweet personality, Angus is totally adorable to boot. One look at those speckled little legs and the white tip on his tail, and he’ll have your heart forever. Angus also squeaks when he yawns (as if he couldn’t get any cuter)! By nighttime, he is all tuckered out and ready to sleep in his crate—preferably at the foot of your bed, if you’ll have him. While Angus is a lovebug inside the house or in the yard, Angus is working on his anxiety outside the home, however he has made huge progress in the month he has been with his foster. Angus will need a home in the suburbs with a fenced yard and adopters who will help him take baby steps with neighborhood walks. __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Observations with Cats: Tested well with cats at the shelter but has not lived with a cat. For neck and leg rubs, she sits still, basking in the warmth of your affection. She loves people so her greetings are enthusiastic. Dog Name: Comet Suspected Breed(s): Rat Terrier mix Gender: Male Age: 4 years Weight: 20 lbs Personality: Friendly, Shy, Good running partner, Protective, Loyal, Trainable, Defensive, Smart, Snuggler, Affectionate, Funny, Quick Learner, Eager to please, Playful Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs. He likes smaller dogs best and will play with them once he feels comfortable. Ideally Comet would be adopted to a home with a small dog, as they help his confidence. Observations with Cats: Good with cats. Ignores the two cats at his foster home. Observations with Kids: Comet would do best in a home without kids as their unpredictability makes him nervous. House Training Progress: Very few accidents. Making excellent progress! Crate Training Progress: Comet is not crated at home and does not need to be. He does not like a crate and does fine without it. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Smyth County, VA Additional Information: Comet is one of the most loyal, loving and handsome little dogs you will ever meet. If you like to take walks or hikes, Comet is your companion. He has great endurance and a sense of adventure – and he is a star on the leash. But above all, Comet is just very happy to spend the day outside with you. He loves hanging out on the grass in the sunshine and prefers to do his business in a small yard instead of on leash. Comet is still gaining confidence and would do best in a home with another small dog. At home, Comet will let you control the remote and read whatever you want, as long as you save him a bit of space on the couch with you, so he can curl up next to you and cuddle. He likes other dogs (small ones are his besties) and is also fine with cats. He has great manners in the house and knows the commands “sit,” “come,” and “go to your place.” He loves his toys and will often play with them on his own. Comet can be nervous and defensive when meeting new people, but he is a bundle of love once he gets to know them. He loves being brushed and having his back scratched. Although this little fella is incredibly handsome with his wavy, soft coat and unique markings, he doesn’t let it get to his head! He will follow his humans to the ends of the earth and will be heartbreakingly loyal to those who love him. Comet needs to be in a single family home or townhouse with a fenced-in-yard. He would thrive in a calm, consistent environment with the guidance of loving experienced dog adopters, and ideally another canine pal to hang out with. Apply today to meet Comet! If you are interested in meeting a dog, we require an adoption application. Visit www.citydogsrescuedc.org/adopt.html to apply. Well behaved and quiet, once he's overcome his general timidity around people and is in your arms, he's an absolute love bug who'll rub against your face and hold your head with his paws! Dewey would like to have a safe space in a quiet house that he can call his own, as well as a kitty companion or two he can play with and cruise around the house with. He loves both submissive and dominant cats and enjoys being with a dog as well; right now he has a fascination with the resident dog's tail and likes to give her head bumps. She's not a typical lap cat, although she doesn't mind being petted (she prefers to be able to sniff your hand first and decide if she's into it right then), but she really likes to be wherever people are. Domino will sit beside you on the couch, perch on her scratching pole in the kitchen while you're cooking and will sit in an empty dining room chair during meals like she's another person at the table (she's always dressed for a formal occasion)! It's adorable. She'll consistently rub against your legs and follow you from room to room just to see what you're up to, and if she knows you're in a no-cat room, she'll meow outside the door to let you know she'd rather have you come hang out with her. In fact, it's rare that you'll have to ask “where's Domino?” because she's so likely to be in the same room you are. She plays mostly by herself with her toys, but she loves an audience and likes to play supermodel and pose for the paparazzi. Domino is a good eater; she particularly likes tuna flavor, but isn't picky. In short, if you're looking for a well behaved cutie who'll keep you company whenever you're home, you should make yours Domino's forever home! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Name: Elijah Suspected Breed(s): Shar Pei mix Gender: Male Age: 3 years old Weight: 50 lbs Personality: Gentle, playful, protective, snuggly, goofy, affectionate, defensive, loyal Observations with Dogs: Would be best as an only dog. Observations with Cats: Calm around the shelter cat Observations with Kids: Untested, but Elijah’s limited sight means he is sometimes spooked, so he would probably do best in a home without young children. House Training Progress: No recent accidents Crate Training Progress: Does well in crate Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Bladen Co, NC Additional Information: Elijah is such a special dog! He has a gentle soul and is loyal and protective of his person and the home. His wrinkly Shar Pei side gives him the face of a forever-puppy, and even though he is visually impaired, he will look right into your eyes when he wants love and affection. He is such a snugglebug and loving pup. He loves to put his face on your knees, get right next to or on top of his human on the couch and seems to think that he is a lapdog half the time. He will make you laugh with his clumsiness and melt with his sweetness. All he wants is to love and protect you and your shared home! Elijah is does well in the crate, even if he's awake and you're not. He has been working on keeping calm when being fed and is improving tremendously, but he will have to keep working on that. He also will need to keep working on being comfortable going outside. His foster family has started taking him to the same spot in the back of their apartment building, which is quiet, and he has improved so much each day. According to his trainer, he would do best in a home with no kids and a small yard. Overall, Elijah is the most amazing dog—and with work and the right adopter, he should thrive and overcome his issues. Who could resist that loving, smushy face? __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR&CK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDR&CK. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs. show less
