Abby (Needs foster)

Name: Abby Suspected Breed(s): Beagle mix Gender: Female Age: 2 years old Weight: 20lbs Personality: Friendly, quick learner, playful, s... show more

Name: Abby Suspected Breed(s): Beagle mix Gender: Female Age: 2 years old Weight: 20lbs Personality: Friendly, quick learner, playful, smart, energetic, goofy, cuddler Observations with Dogs: Abby is playful with dogs off-leash, but she is reactive when on her leash. She would do best in a home with a fenced yard and in a low-traffic neighborhood so she can avoid meeting dogs on leash and/or gradually build up her tolerance for it with training. Observations with Cats: Loves to chase so would do best in home without cats. Observations with Kids: Gentle with kids but not overly warm and affectionate. House Training Progress: Mostly house trained but has accidents when she is anxious and when she is transitioning to a new environment. Crate Training Progress: In general, she does well in the crate and will voluntarily nap inside. When she's anxious, she has a hard time settling, especially in a new and unfamiliar environment. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Roane County, WV Additional Information: Playful Abby will bring a toy to your feet to ask you to play, but she can also amuse herself by wrestling that stuffed squirrel into submission all on her own. Abby is a great cuddler and a fun, energetic companion who is always excited to meet new people. If you follow Abby on a walk, you'll see that her nose is all beagle! Abby is a joyful dog in many ways, but she also has anxiety that requires a patient adopter who is willing to work on training and power through setbacks. Abby is reactive to dogs on leash, which makes her hard to walk in a dog-dense urban environment. Because of that, a fenced yard is a big plus so she can have outdoor playtime and potty breaks without fearful encounters with dogs. When transitioning to a new environment she initially exhibits some separation anxiety and has accidents, but she shows a lot of improvement in both of these areas once she has an opportunity to settle in, understand the routine of the household, and learn to communicate with her new caregivers. Abby is a sweetheart who deserves a champion: someone willing to stick it out with her long enough for her to feel like she's home and able to show off her true wonderful self. Apply to be Abby's hero! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. She will keep a dedicated watch on the birds outside the window (don’t worry! she has them covered!). She will make sure you get lots of love when they get home and keep you company as you binge watch Netflix. She was a little shy with her foster at first, and then she blossomed into the ideal cat. Arabella is a fan of the finer things in life — relaxing on her cat tree, smooth jazz (or whatever), and stretching out with some boxed wine and Love Actually. Arabella is just waiting for some human to recognize for the beautiful kitty she knows she — despite a bit of a cloudy eye that is the sign of a past life, pre-rescue. Won’t you make her rescue complete by giving her a forever home? Apply and find out why Arabella will make your life 1,000% better. __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDR&CK. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Cat specific: Rabies, FVRCP, Feline Leukemia vaccines. They are tested for FIV and FeLV. Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. An adopter will need to agree cover costs of neutering when he is age-appropriate (usually 16-20 weeks) and will need to continue his kitten vaccines (including rabies) as he grows older. Kittens under 12 weeks of age must be adopted in pairs or to a home with friendly resident feline. They will not be considered as singles. __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Name: Corey Suspected Breed(s): Australian Shepherd mix Gender: Male Age: 1 year old Weight: 60 lbs Personality: Funny, goofy, easygoing, trainable, good running partner, eager to please, energetic, outgoing, friendly, adventurous, snuggler, playful, affectionate, brave, quick learner, smart, loyal Observations with Dogs: Corey is generally good with other dogs off leash and on leash. He is dominant at the dog park but submissive with the foster family’s dog. Observations with Cats: Corey wants to give affection to the resident cat at his foster home, but he is unintentionally a little too much for the small cat. Observations with Kids: Corey loves kids and is playful, but he doesn’t realize how big he is! Until he does he would do best in a home with older children. House Training Progress: Corey has made great progress on house training -- he's almost there! Crate Training Progress: During the day, Corey is in the crate for no more than a few hours at a time during the day and he sometimes sleeps in his crate overnight. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Columbus County, NC Additional Information: Corey is sooooo excited to meet you!! He is one year old, and the world is his oyster. He loves to walk, run, and play, and is looking for a partner who will appreciate his energetic and rugged personality. If you have a dog he can wrestle with, that would be even better! His foster mom says that he is a 60lb puppy, which means he is pretty much always busy: wrestling, destroying toys, energetically snuggling, playing, and exploring. He loves long walks but is still afraid of big trucks and buses. Corey is still learning his puppy manners, but he is a willing learner – he already knows how to sit and touch. Corey is so smart (especially when you bribe him with tasty treats!). He is also working on not being too vocal, as he currently barks if he gets overly excited. In his perfect world, he envisions his forever family loving the outdoors, offering opportunities for him to wrestle with other dogs, and having an appreciation of full body snuggles. If you choose him, he will always be by your side—and he can’t wait to shower you with kisses! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Cratos prefers smaller dogs as bigger dogs can intimidate him. Observations with Cats: Untested Observations with Kids: Loves kids and is gentle with them. Cratos wants to play with every kid he meets. He quickly ends up on his back so they can rub his belly! House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: Untested. He is not crated at his foster home. During the day, he stays in a certain part of the house and does fine. He sleeps through the night in the bedroom or living room. Location: Needs foster Rescued From: Pocahontas County, WV Additional Information: Cratos has a happy demeanor and easygoing nature that make him a favorite among kids and adults. Cratos gets nervous with some adults and large groups of people, but once he knows and trusts you he is a very loyal companion. He is good with some dogs, such as his foster’s friend’s dog who he plays with all the time. His mom has a terminal illness and wants him placed before her time is up. He's been loved his whole life and nothing would make her happier than to know he has a new forever home. Curtis is a really mellow cat who loves attention and isn't disruptive in seeking it. From the first moment he arrived at his foster home, he would purr and knead his paws as soon as you looked at him! He's a sweetheart who loves to lay in bed with you, cuddle and get chin and belly scratches. Yes! A kitty who likes his belly rubbed! Name: Darla Suspected Breed(s): Dalmatian mix Gender: Female Age: 1 year old Weight: 60 lbs Personality: Friendly, Snuggler, Adaptable, Energetic, Outgoing, Trainable, Gentle, Calm, Playful, Affectionate, Protective, Adventurous, Loyal, Easygoing, Quick Learner Observations with Dogs: Darla is generally good with other dogs at the dog park, but she can be dominant. She loved playing with the resident dog at her previous foster home. Observations with Cats: She tested well with cats but has not lived with cats. Observations with Kids: Darla’s foster parent has only seen her interact with children once at an adoption event. She was very gentle and gave kisses. However, Darla is still learning not to jump up to show her affection, so she would probably do better around older kids. House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: She does not like to be closed in the crate, and she is currently trusted to roam the house freely. She sleeps in the bed at night with her foster parent. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Roane County, WV Additional Information: Doesn’t Darla just have the cutest face?! This sweet gal absolutely loves to snuggle and give you kisses! She is a fan of all people—not to mention her favorite snacks, peanut butter. :-) In fact, she pretty much loves EVERYTHING: playing with toys, going for walks, and relaxing with her people. She is also very loyal and loves nothing more than to be by your side. She would make a wonderful and sweet companion. This silly girl also has great energy and would thrive in an active household. Darla is a super well-behaved smartie too—and she already knows “sit,” “come,” “out,” “shake,” “down,” and “stay.” She like other dogs but is working on her sometimes dominant behavior around them. She walks really well on the leash and you can trust her to be loose in the home while you’re away. Overall, Darla simply loves life and can’t wait to be a part of yours! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. If the animal has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon. Apply for a DOG: http://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/adoptable-dogs.html City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is a foster based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR&CK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first served model). Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs. show less
