Video: https://youtu.be/Jt2jc-gWF_M Name: Abby Suspected Breed(s): Beagle Gender: Female Age: 2 years old Weight: 20lbs Personality: Friendly, quick learner, playful, smart, energetic Observations with Dogs: Would do best as an only dog, in a low dog traffic neighborhood. Observations with Cats: Would do best in a home without cats Observations with Kids: Gentle with kids, but not overly warm and affectionate. She is still learning to trust them. House Training Progress: In-progress Crate Training Progress: Working on perfecting her training. She gets anxious when her foster mother leaves - this can sometimes lead to accidents in the crate. Otherwise, she is calm and does well in crates. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Roane County, WV Additional Information: Abby is a sweetheart and is incredibly playful. She loves playing with and fetching her toys around the house. She enjoys a daily walk and is a quick learner, as long as there is food involved. She is currently learning the commands “sit” and “leave it”. Abby is a fun, energetic companion who is always excited to meet new people! Abby does not do well greeting other dogs on walks, so she needs to live in a single family home with someone who is able to work with her on this. If you ever have a barbecue, make sure to grill a hot-dog for Abby - she can’t seem to get enough of them! Name: Arabella Suspected Breed(s): DSH Gender: Female Age: 1.5 years Weight: 7 lbs Personality: Sweet, friendly, shy at first Observations with Dogs: Unknown Observations with Cats: Loves other cats Observations with Kids: Not well suited to life with kids House Training Progress: Good litterbox manners Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Pickens County, SC Additional Information: Arabella is City Kitty’s full package! She will keep a dedicated watch on the birds outside the window (don’t worry! she has them covered!). She will make sure you get lots of love when they get home and keep you company as you binge watch Netflix. She was a little shy with her foster at first, and then she blossomed into the ideal cat. Arabella is a fan of the finer things in life — relaxing on her cat tree, smooth jazz (or whatever), and stretching out with some boxed wine and Love Actually. Arabella is just waiting for some human to recognize for the beautiful kitty she knows she — despite a bit of a cloudy eye that is the sign of a past life, pre-rescue. Won’t you make her rescue complete by giving her a forever home? Apply and find out why Arabella will make your life 1,000% better. __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Observations with Cats: Wants to play Observations with Kids: Would do best in a home without children House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: Does well in crate Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Smyth County, VA Additional Information: Don’t let Bear’s name fool you. He's a softie – he loves to cuddle and lay in laps. He wants to be friends with everyone, occasionally jumping up to greet people. Bear enjoys a good game of fetch or tug or even a round of wrestling. He is also a gem at the dog park and has gotten along well with the dog in his foster home. Bear needs an experienced dog person who will commit to training to help him be the well-mannered dog he wants to be. With some people, he's displayed resource guarding -- being protective of his belongings or food -- but he's very responsive to positive reinforcement training and that should be continued. In so many ways, Bear is a great puppy! He's eager to please, affectionate, and energetic. He's looking for the right person to help him blossom. Name: Beverly Suspected Breed(s): Calico/DSH Gender: Female Age: 3 years Weight: 9 lbs Personality: Friendly, sweet, affectionate, playful, easy going, vocal Observations with Dogs: Indiffernt to dogs, fostered in a home with a dog Observations with Cats: Good with male cats, does not care for female cats Observations with Kids: Unknown House Training Progress: Good litterbox manners Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Cleveland County, NC Additional Information: Beverly is the definition of sweet. She's ready to live it up and get all the attention she deserves. Beverly is very chill, but she has bouts of play with her favorite hamburger toy, which she guards with her life and carries around the house. She can make a bed out of most anything and can often be found sleeping in or on shopping bags, purses, and duffle bags. She's a purring machine and loves tummy rubs. But she's pretty independent and entertains herself throughout the day - she's doesn't really follow you around demanding attention. Beverly has recovered from entropian (a condition where the eyelids turn in and scratch the eye) and she's had two surgies correct it and now she's ready to fly. Her eyes are open pain free for the first time in her life and she's excited to see the face of her adopter. Name: Casey Suspected Breed(s): Feist/Chihuahua mix Gender: Female Age: 4 years old Weight: 14 lbs Personality: Friendly, protective, affectionate, brave, adaptable, snuggler, energetic, goofy, trainable, eager to please, adventurous Observations with Dogs: Casey enjoys meeting other dogs while on walks, but would do best as an only dog in the home. Observations with Cats: Casey ignores the two cats in her foster home. Observations with Kids: Would do best in a home without children House Training Progress: No accidents. Does well left uncrated. Not destructive. Crate Training Progress: Crates make Casey nervous, and she is trusted to have free roam of the house. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Cleveland Co, NC Additional Information: I’m Casey and despite my petite size, (I don’t even come up to you knees with the tops of my ears!) I am super athletic and in a single bound can leap as high as your shoulders! Ready to learn more about me? I don't have accidents in the house, I don’t use my teeth to chew on furniture and I’m quiet if left alone in the house! I'm also very affectionate and love adventures. I enjoy cuddling on the couch and going for long sniff walks. I adjust my energy to the level of the household. The trainer and my foster mom also say I am super smart and picked up on some complicated skills with ease and a bit of my own style - my tail helicopters when I’m in working mode! I like working for praise, treats and toys! Oh, and sometimes I get in trouble because I really like my toys. Like really, really, really, like them. Sometimes I am afraid someone might take them away and not give them back so I may snap at my favorite people if I think someone is going to take something I love away from me. And maybe sometimes I guard my people, and my space too, so I'd do best in a home without children. I would do really great with an adult who has time to work with me and a trainer to understand my resource guarding. I would really, really, really like a home that might be excited to take me to a tricks class, or work on a game called flyball or agility with me! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR&CK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDR&CK. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. Suspected Breed(s): Pit bull mix Gender: Male Age: 7-8 years old* Weight: 52 lbs Personality: Friendly, Affectionate, Calm, Eager to please Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs after a carefully guided introduction. Observations with Cats: Shouldn’t be in a house with cats Observations with Kids: Adores kids! He is very affectionate with kids and loves to lick them. House Training Progress: No accidents Crate Training Progress: Does well in crate. Also does well being loose in the house. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Columbus Co, NC Additional Information: Cisco had quite the journey from shelter to rescue. We rescued Cisco with a severe case of mange and advanced heartworm disease. He was in a high-kill rural shelter with little hope of getting out alive, let alone the love and care he deserved. Thanks to supporters and a welcoming foster, we were able to get Cisco to DC and on to the care he needed. Today Cisco is heartworm free, fully recovered from mange and has a clean bill of health from our vet! Cisco went from a neglected, hopeless boy, to a shiny coat, a pep in his step, and a glisten in his eye. Cisco's foster reports he's the best guest he's had to date. He is a very affectionate and loyal pup and truly blossoms in a caring and loving environment. Cisco loves attention but is also quite happy hanging out by himself. He adores staring out the window and truly thrives at the opportunity to go outside and explore. But, he also won’t pass up a chance to curl up with you on the couch. Cisco is an easy going pup who will bring so much joy to your life! *Cisco is available for our senior fee of $200 If you are interested in meeting a dog, we require an adoption application.
