About Duke

Hi all – Duke here.  I am a 1 ½ young boy rescued with from a puppy mill.  Boy has life changed for me…and all for the better!!!  I will be two years old in March 2018.  I am a tall boy with lots of energy that my foster family is trying to harness.  Because my first two years of life were in bad conditions, I have to learn social skills and confront my fears.  I am teaching my foster family about those fears and they are encouraging me and loving me through my progress.  I need my forever family to spend time and energy to help me continue to progress.  And my foster family needs to be patient with me so I can continue to grow into a terrific young man.

I am a huge cuddle bug and love attention!  I like to chew on my hard chew toys.  I travel in the car in a crate and I like that.  Going to the vet is new to me so I get scared but am very sweet to the vets and techs.  They have told foster mom how lovable I am….pretty cool for me.  I crate easily but get to be out in foster mom and dad’s bedroom at night.  I do crate when they are gone to make sure I don’t have accidents or get in trouble.  I am learning to go for walks but need patience with this as I sometimes get scared and need encouragement.

Because of my size, age, and energy, I would be best in a family with children over 10 years of age.  I am fine with other dogs. I haven’t met cats so no comment there.   I am learning to play with my two-year old foster brother. Foster mom and dad think I would be most successful with a furry friend at least 4 or 5 years old or older.  I would be fine as an only dog.  I definitely need a yard with a structural fence so I can go outside and enjoy life!    If you have an approved application on file and would like to meet handsome Duke, please email Marcie.

PLEASE NOTE: Emails to the foster contact listed above will only be answered if you have an APPROVED application on file with GRRACE. If you have an approved application on file and have read this bio and feel you can provide for Archie's needs, please email Marcie. Meet Archie. Archie is a 1 year old, 85-pound puppy. He can be likened to a large, fluffy teddy bear. Notice in his handsome portrait the adorable freckles! He came to live with us from his previous home where he had been well cared for but was a bit too much for their small family to keep up with. He would love to find his furever home and settle in with lots of cuddles and sloppy kisses. He is a sweet, playful, loving, rambunctious, puppy and will be a great addition to his furever family. Archie has a very sweet, playful personality. He plays well with his canine foster brother and sister and would do best in a home with another large dog he could play with. He does play hard and another dog his size with puppy-like energy would be best suited for his playtime needs. He is housebroken with few exceptions (only when the hoomans are not paying close enough attention does he have an accident). He prefers to sleep in his house (crate) at night. During the day, while the hoomans are at work, Archie rests in his house with no complaints or separation anxiety. He will need a large, fenced outdoor space as he is a large boy who likes to run. If he is left outside unattended and becomes bored he will find a way out of the fence, but this is not a problem if he is supervised and/or entertained. Archie is still learning his manners and will need a family that will patiently and consistently work on his manners with him. Because he has not yet learned not to jump up, and he is quite large, it would be best not to have small hoomans in his furever home. Despite his size, he loves to cuddle and be cuddled, including spending plenty of time in his hooman’s lap. Oh, and he loves to lay on the hooman’s feet, a welcome service during the cold months. If you have an approved application on file and think you might be the family who can love Archie, please email Marcie. Meet Goose! Goose is a one-year old handsome golden boy looking for a special forever home. Goose came to GRRACE after we got a call from a local shelter that he had been surrendered. We were immediately taken by his exuberance for life and love and treats, as well as his beauty! We learned pretty quickly that while 99% of the time, Goose was just a typical lover; he also had extreme issues with resource guarding. GRRACE enlisted the assistance of a wonderful behaviorist/trainer and Goose has been living with him and practicing his new lessons since November. Goose needs a home with a dog savvy person; not just a person with lots of dog experience, but a truly savvy dog person. He will need a fenced yard and no kids in the home. Adults only, no exceptions. His adopter will need to be committed to ongoing training, both with his trainer and constant continued work at home. Consistency is crucial and when followed, Goose does really well and will make a lovely companion for that special someone. If you have an approved application on file and think you might be the family who can love Goose, please email Marcie. This is Sam. He might have more air travel miles than anyone you know! GRRACE rescued him from China where his future was in peril. He is one happy dude learning to live in America. Sam is about 3 yrs. old, and he’s very healthy. He does have a dislocated left hind leg knee. However, he was born with this handicap. The knee makes him limp a bit when he walks, but at full speed it’s not even noticeable! Since he loves to run, we don’t feel that his knee causes him any pain. Sam gets along with other dogs, meets people very well, and will be very easy to train. He’s going to be a great family member! UPDATE ON SAM!! Sam has made giant strides in well-being and socialization since coming to his foster home in May. Sam is fun-loving, gentle, and good on a leash. He loves ice cubes!! If you have an approved application on file and think you might be the family who can love Sam, please email Marcie.
