About A FOSTER Dog Application

This is the application that you should use if you are looking to apply to foster a dog AND ARE NOT planning to adopt.

Foster homes are one of the most important parts of any dog rescue. Without these homes, we wouldn't be able to rescue as many dogs as we do.

If you are looking to make a difference in a dogs life for a short period of time, please apply now.

What is fostering?

  • Fostering is agreeing to take a dog into your home, temporarily, while the rescue is receiving and reviewing applications for adoption.

What does it cost?

  • As a foster home, we can provide you with food, collar, leash. We will also cover any vet bills, but please speak to your foster coordinator before taking the dog to the vet unless its an emergency

What if I can only foster a small dog?

  • We will work with the limitations of our foster homes. If you are asked to foster a dog that is too big, please just let us know and we will look for another home.

What if I only want to foster a puppy?

  • Puppies are usually very easy to adopt and often don't need fostering. Please consider an older dog that could be even more fun!

What if I want to adopt?

  • If your intent is to adopt a dog, you will need to submit an adoption application for review.

I only want to foster a specific dog.

  • If you want a specific dog and only that dog, we recommend that you apply to adopt. International dogs are not normally available for fostering as we try to only bring them here if an approved adopter has been found.

We really need more foster homes and appreciate you reading this posting. I hope that you consider opening your heart and your home to help a dog in need. The love and care that you can provide for even a short period, will make a huge difference in the life of a dog.

Regards

Foster Team

My name is Coco and I could use your help. You see, I want so badly to be everybody's friend, but I just don’t know how. I need someone patient and dog experienced to guide me. Could you be the one? I am slender black labrador mix of 60lb and 23 inches tall and I was born in the Middle East a year and a half ago. I was rescued as a small puppy from a dangerous situation: a group of boys were hurling stones at my small body. When I first came to Canada I was placed in a home with another dog. But my clumsy and rough attempts at play quickly backfired and it was decided that the dog and I were not compatible. Now I am in a foster home and there are several other dogs here who I watch enviously as they run and play together. I’m like the kid at the schoolyard who tries too hard to make everyone like her and ends up instead with no friends. It’s so frustrating! The other dogs don’t really like me because I am too rough and eager and I don’t seem to speak their language. I annoy them by nipping at their heels and ears and sticking my butt in their faces. Then they get mad and I get snarly and mouthy (though not really aggressive) and it’s all so very frustrating. I have so much energy and I long to run with those guys. If only someone could teach me the polite way to make friends. In a way I have a similar problem with people. I want so badly to be loved that I sometimes become over-excited and even nippy, when people give me attention. So you see my problem –  I am a healthy and energetic young dog with so much potential and so much enthusiasm. But, without meaning to be, I’m rude.  I recently bit through a winter jacket. No harm, no foul... but I have fears too that seem to trigger sometimes. I really need someone who understands Labbie type dogs and know how to pull me through these hardships. My foster mom will be working with a trainer and if I am adopted before my training is complete LALDR will continue to cover the cost in my new home for a further two months. Would you like to come and meet me? I have a feeling you will be the one to show me how to make friends and be loved. And once that happens, I will be the happiest, most grateful dog in the world.   I have been spayed, *vaccinated & micro-chipped. My adoption fee is $550.00 CAD.   Looking for more furry friends? Check out all of our dogs at https://www.adoptapet.com/shelter175353-pets.html or www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca   Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue. Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs. Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. More information can be found on our website. *Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordatella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East.    Coco/Sahar show less

Hi. I am Cola the pug and I'm heading your way very soon.  Right now I am in Kuwait. I'm 3 years of age, 17lb and just 8 inches tall.  After purchasing me from a breeder, my family took me to a farm where they left someone else to care for me. They would come and visit me once a month but the rest of the time the only human interaction I had was when the farm-worker would bring me food.  It was a lonely life.  Fortunately a friend of the family finally persuaded them to surrender me into her care and I have spent the past few months enjoying life inside a home.  I am relishing every opportunity to be with people; I'm a very friendly little dog. Until recently I hadn't even known what it was like to go for a leash walk, so that's a skill I am still working on.  I am house-trained though, so you'll be pleased to know that.  I get along well with other dogs, but haven't had a chance to meet cats yet.   Word is I can fly to Canada in time to start the New Year with a family of my own.  That will make me the happiest little pug ever.  Will you be there to greet me?    I am not yet spayed, but I am vaccinated and microchipped and my adoption fee of $500 includes my airfare to Canada. This is NOT a dog belonging to LALDR. This is a courtesy posting. Please do not contact us, as we know nothing about the dog. For more information, please contact: juliarceca@gmail.com Combi (pronounced com-bee) is a 5 to 6 year old female dog who was rescued in Guanajuato, Mexico from a life in the streets. She got in the public transport by herself (called “combis”, hence her name) and got off with a bunch of students at a university campus and proceeded to walk around asking for food and cuddles. She was taken in and immediately got spayed, she is now very healthy and has all her vaccines up to date and is de-wormed. She is quick to learn and has been trained in basic commands and for not pulling on her lead. She loves humans of all ages and is very affectionate, quiet and enjoys belly rubs the most; however, she likes her space and doesn’t get along with other animals, she is ok in public spaces but must always be on her lead.  She is being fostered by a student, so she can’t be kept for too long, if a fur-ever home is not found she will be taken to a shelter. She is potty trained and much prefers doing her necessities outside, however, if she does not have access to a backyard or garden she will need about 4 quick potty walks a day.  She eats twice a day: 400 g or 4 cups in the morning and the same amount at night. She drinks a lot of water so she needs a small filled bucket available.  Mix of St. Bernard and/or Akita If you are interested in Combi, please contact juliarceca@gmail.com show less

Hi everyone, my name is Daisy Mae and I am just as sweet and beautiful as my name implies. I am a playful and gentle 1 year old Anatolian Shepherd/possibly greyhound mix, with a weight of 45 lbs and height of 24 inches. A tourist found me abandoned in a park in a middle eastern country when I was only one month old. I was so tiny and hungry and was crying for milk. I was also really cold and it was clear I wouldn't have survived another night. After some time in a shelter I was fortunate to have the chance to come to Canada and now I am in a foster home with several other dogs, which makes me very happy. I get along very well with all the other dogs here, adapting my style of play to each one from very smallest to largest. I am the ambassador of the pack. Just after I arrived in Vancouver I was adopted into a home with a senior dog who mostly wanted to sleep and growled when I came near her. I was very unhappy there and spent all of my time just lying by myself in the yard, watching dogs go by on the street, yearning to play with them. Although my new family adored me and wanted me to stay, they knew they weren't the right home for me. So they kindly returned me, so I could live a full and active life. Clearly another playful dog in the home and a fenced yard to race around in, is a must for me. One of the other foster dogs in my home isn't very popular with the other dogs as she plays roughly. I am the only one who will play with her as I know how sad she is when ignored. I am teaching her to play more gently by withdrawing when she gets too rough. My foster mom says I am amazing, so full of life, kindness and joy. I bet you wouldn't mind having a little more of that in your life, would you? I am awesome off leash as I would never take off and leave. Hiking is heaven to me and while I will go off briefly to explore (that is the point of hiking afterall), I will check back in with you ever couple of minutes. An active home with the opportunity to go on occasional hikes is my idea of heaven. I am awesome with kids as I thrive on being around people. There just isn't an aggressive bone in my wiggly body. I have never met a person or a dog I didn't like. However cats are a different story. I can't live with those furry squeaky toys. Need a hiking buddy? A best friend? A funny, loveable, playmate for your other dog?  Well you couldn't do any better than me. While I am active and playful girl I am also equally calm and relaxed when we are chillin' at home. If you come and meet me, you will not want to leave without me. I have been spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. My adoption fee is $550. Good day. I am Damon and I am a 4 year old, possibly Shepard mix. I suppose there could be a bit of a sighthound breed in me too. Weighing in at almost 73 lbs and around 35 inches tall, I am a very kind and quite friendly dog.  When I was found, my rescuers said it seemed like I was begging for help. I came near to them, showed my leg and sat down. The gentle look in my eyes, told them to take me. My front leg was cut at the the wrist and was severely swollen. This was how they found me: https://youtu.be/ZYag0q778Pc, https://youtu.be/qkNNAYKklZc. The vet amputated it, as it was developing an infection. It was awful. When my rescuers questioned people about my paw, they were told somebody cut it off as punishment for eating his hens. This sadistic evil doer wanted to shoot me dead, but decided to do this instead to make me feel severe pain. So, now I live as a tripaw, but it hasn't affected my sweet disposition. I long for closeness and give only love in return. https://youtu.be/A3Zm6F6S0BY I like very much to play. You won't find me feeling sorry for myself, no siree. I want to run around and have fun now that my leg is not an issue.  I have never been around kitties, but I am great with people. I am good with other dogs & kids too. https://youtu.be/zvlxDwHK6qs. A good home would be one who wants to play games with me, while respecting my limitations. Moderate activity would be good. Not a requirement. But I am on board if you have another dog to be buddies with too. I hope you have rooming your heart and home for a super sweet, loving boy like me. Another vid, https://youtu.be/LFYZvVwH2PM.   I have been spayed/neutered, *vaccinated & micro-chipped.  My adoption fee is $450.00 CAD, this includes my airfare to Canada.   Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue. I want to dance my way into your world - will you let me? My name is Dancer and I am a pretty Samoyed/Jindo mix girl from South Korea. I am 4 months of age, weigh 18lb and measure 15 inches to my shoulders. I'm a more petite version of my brother, Dreamer, who you'll also find on this site. We were both discovered locked in a small crate when a local villager complained about some stray dogs on his property. When the firefighters came out to catch the dogs they discovered 12 puppies in crates and two adult dogs chained up nearby.  All of us had been without food or water for some time and it turned out the person who owned us was in the hospital in a coma.  Upon contacting his family, the firefighters were told they should kill us all.   Obviously that's not what happened. The firefighters told the family they would not do such a barbaric thing and instead they brought us to a rescue centre where we are now been well cared for while we wait to find homes. You would think that after being born and raised in a cage, my brother and I might hate humans, or at least be terrified of them.  But no, we are both sweet natured and gentle dogs who love to be petted. In fact I am known as the dog of a million kisses because if you stop petting me I will immediately thank you with gentle doggy-kisses. I especially love children and my gentle nature seems to appeal to them too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XCXL4KhfWc&list=PL3UlJJYID8eHR0dYBiQ7YbY1XFdsPXtms&index=6 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ybQ8XjAEGY&list=PL3UlJJYID8eHR0dYBiQ7YbY1XFdsPXtms&index=7 Everything about life is so interesting to me right now; I'm curious about everything - dogs, cats, people, smells.   When I first meet big dogs I'm cautious until I know they like me, but once they show they're friendly I give a little bark to invite them to play. If the dog is smaller I'm usually more confident and I get quite excited at the prospect of a playmate.  (My brother is such a day-dreamer that he often has his head in the clouds while I'm busy playing or exploring.) I'm sure I could live with cats if necessary because I quickly lose interest after an initial sniff and I'm such a gentle dog they'd have nothing to fear from me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yF2idJJzHLg&list=PL3UlJJYID8eHR0dYBiQ7YbY1XFdsPXtms My mild-mannered personality would make me a good fit for any family and I'm the kind of people-oriented dog who will learn and adapt to my new world faily quickly. Sure, I'll miss my brother, but I'm ready to get on with my life and make new friends.  I can't wait to meet my new family.  Are you ready for me?   I am too young to be spayed, but I am vaccinated and microchipped and my adoption fee of $600 includes my airfare to Canada. Breed: Shepard/Pointer Age: 9 months Gender: male, neutered Wgt/Hgt: 43 lbs / 20 inches Energy level: moderate to active Relations: good with dogs / unknown cats & kids Highlights: house trained, polite, loves to play ball I was saved from a horribly painful death at the hands of monstrous people in the Middle East. They had doused me with gasoline and were about to light me on fire, when my rescuer swooped in and pulled me put of the situation. They also cut my ears & tail off. https://youtu.be/PARiXHddxMo. My rescuer planned to keep me, but the neighbors have complained. People here in the Middle East still think dogs are unclean. It is all bogus of course, but they need to relearn that dogs are good. Anyway, the police have given my family here a month to get me out. That means by the end of November. You will find I like to please and am quite the polite little boy. Bonus, I am already house trained. I will likely be a medium-large sized dog, so I hope you like lots of big loving coming your way. I like other dogs, though haven't been around kitties or kids yet. Being I am yet a puppy and a sweet one at that, it is likely I could get along fine with respectful children. It is just that I have not been tested with any yet. See how bouncey, trouncey I am in my vids. Maybe agility sports should be in my future. https://youtu.be/X3RXe_K44Sk, https://youtu.be/AKLG2v6gCN8. I love to play ball. So, I hope you like to do fun activities like that. Maybe some hiking or ball playing at the dog park? While I am young I will probably be fairly active. Once I mature, probably moderate to active.  There is someone there for me reading this now, I just know it. Please help me and keep my rescuer from crying. She is distraught over this. I will be your lifelong buddy... and cuddle bud and playmate and... well, you get the picture. Update: I have been chosen by a loving adopter & am currently with a rescuer until a flight is found.   I have been spayed/neutered, *vaccinated & micro-chipped. Can I be your Darling?  Will you fall in love with me and bring me home to live with you?  I am an 8 month old Labrador Retriever and Jindo mix from South Korea who goes by the name of Darling.  I weigh 38lb and measure 18 inches to my shoulders.  My mom was a pregnant stray who was taken to the Incheon City pound where she gave birth to me and my 7 littermates. While some of my light-coloured siblings were adopted, nobody was interested in me because of my black fur. (Maybe you've heard of 'black dog syndrome'? It's a common occurence in shelters where the black dogs tend to get overlooked.)  Fortunately a volunteer didn't discriminate against my colour and she got me out of the pound. Now, I'm making it my mission to show you just how great black dogs can be.  First off, let me tell you how much I adore people. I don't care about your age, race, religion or gender - you're all welcome to pet me and play with me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaIcnkYaUiw&list=PL3UlJJYID8eHlSEMfPfobZMKQU9SQG00l&index=2 Then there are other dogs. I think they're great too!  I love making new dog friends and I have so much fun when I find one of a similar size and playfulness.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLqpBVZocXc&list=PL3UlJJYID8eHlSEMfPfobZMKQU9SQG00l&index=4 Bring out the leash and watch my face light up and my body vibrate with happiness; I just love going for walks.  My energly level is fairly typical of a dog my age; I'll run and play with my dog-friends, enjoy some nice walks with my person and then be happy to have a nap before the next fun thing happens. If you're wondering how I am with cats, then don't worry - I am completely disinterested in them. I actually lived with cats in a foster home for a bit and we mostly ignored each other. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2H2FUGDNGs&list=PL3UlJJYID8eHlSEMfPfobZMKQU9SQG00l&index=6 My carers describe me as smart and treat-motivated; a great combination if you're planning to do some puppy-training with me. So there you have it; a hundred and one reasons why you should adopt me.    I am neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and my adoption fee of $600 includes my airfare to Canada. I am a sweet girl who loves other dogs and loves to be around people. I have a lot of love to give. Big dog, big heart. My story goes back to when I was 2-3 months old. My mom was a stray dog who was very scared of people. She was having a lot of puppies. Finally, our rescuer was able to catch her. Our Mom was spayed and we were put in a foster home, till we got a bit older. My siblings are also listed with LALDR. I like to please and am a quick study, because I am a smart girl. I bet we can find loads of happy times together, like going hiking or sometimes just cuddling at home. If you have another dog who needs a playmate, I am up for that, but it isn't required for you to bring me into your family. I have not yet been exposed to cats or kids, so I am uncertain about how I would like living with them. I am a friendly girl though, so who knows. I would enjoy a moderate to active home. I hope you can teach me about toys and grassy yards and playing ball and oh, all that fun stuff. I am playful and love going outside to explore. A home that likes to snuggle with lots of tummy rubs and petting is my style. I am a pretty trusting g girl, so we should be able to bond fast and I just love being with people.   I have been spayed/neutered, *vaccinated & micro-chipped. Hi all, my name is Diesel. I am a loyal 2 year old male Great Pyrenees mix. I have lived my life on a farm, taking care of the livestock. But my owner became terminally ill and could no longer take care of himself, let alone me. I am now in the care of a foster home where I am living inside a house for the first time in my life.  I take some time to trust new people; in fact it took a couple of days of her constant presence before I could trust my foster mom, but now I am very affectionate and loving toward her and I want nothing more than to be around her in the house. She has several other dogs too and I really enjoy sharing the home with them. We all love to play outside and, although I am a big guy, I know how to be respectful within the pack. When new people approach me, I tend to lunge and bark at them in an aggressive manner. I know this is not right and my foster mom has introduced me to a professional dog trainer who is working with me to fix this.  They feel that I can overcome this behaviour and be ready for a forever home once the training is complete. On the plus side, I am house-trained, I know how to walk on a leash, I am smart and eager to learn. In my ideal world I would find a loving home with acreage and other dogs to share it with me. In my previous home I was fine with the cats but have been chasing them when I go to other homes. It is thought this chasing behaviour is a frustated attempt at herding them. Clearly I never got the memo that herding cats is an impossibility. Because I am very smart and eager to please I can almost certainly be taught to leave the cats alone. I know I am a lot of dog, but believe me, I have soooooo much potential. Once I've worked out the kinks, I will be a truly loving, loyal companion. I am vaccinated, dewormed, neutered and microchipped.  My adoption fee is $500. Please review our adoption guidelines at http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca Disclaimer: In order to protect both dogs and children, the Board of Directors has decided that unless a representative of LALDR has personally met the dog or has been satisified by the international rescue of the dogs' ability to live with children, we will not approve a family for adoption. Specifically, we will not approve an adoption to a family with children age 8 or younger. We are hesitant to approve an adoption to a family with children under the age of 12 but will treat each application individually. show less

Hi, my name is Dimple. I am an affectionate 5 month old Jindo mix girl from South Korea. My height and weight are 15lb and 13 inches.    My mother was pregnant when she was found as a stray and taken to the city pound.  So that's where I was born, along with my 5 littermates. My mom was fortunate to be adopted from there, but at 10 weeks of age we were all placed on the euthanasia list. Thanfully one of the volunteers saved us from there, only to discover that we had contracted Parvovirus and would all need to be quarantined and treated. This can be a deadly virus for small puppies, but amazingly we all survived. So now I am 100% healthy and hoping to find my forever home. My sisters Genie and Tulip are also on this site, though lucky Genie already has a home waiting for her in Canada. Can it be my turn next? I am a dog who really enjoys attention and affection, especially once I'm comfortable with someone.  Even though I will happily let complete strangers pet me I can be startled if they touch me unexpectedly.  As I get older and meet more people I'm getting bolder though.  With children I am gentle and tolerant of their attention, but will walk away if I start to feel overwhelmed.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrxhHOThB1E&list=PL3UlJJYID8eEpXRR4G7Lb4QuMk_vbGCgE&index=6 This gentle nature is also evident when I meet cats so I could easily share my future home with one or two felines. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN0VMX6IMko&list=PL3UlJJYID8eEpXRR4G7Lb4QuMk_vbGCgE&index=2 My favourite activities are wrestling with my siblings, playing with my carers or running around the dog park. I'm always full of beans and ready for playtime, especially with other dogs my own size. While I'm curious to say hello to the big dogs, I tend not to be so playful with them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULLnCnd9KNI&list=PL3UlJJYID8eEpXRR4G7Lb4QuMk_vbGCgE&index=4 I can totally see you and I spending time at the local dog park and making all sorts of friends. We'd have a blast. You don't have to worry about me being a barker; that's something I rarely do. I have been taught to relieve myself on pee-pads and am about to start leash walking lessons. Maybe you can help me learn other things too?  It's so exciting to know I have a whole life ahead of me with my very own human family. Can we get started right away please?   I am too young to be spayed, but I am vaccinated and microchipped and my adoption fee of $600 includes my airfare to Canada. Name: DINO, male Breed : Shepherd/Saluki mix Age/Weight: 10 weeks/ 10 lb Location: Kuwait   Hey, Dino here. Think you'd like to have some furry, four-legged companionship in your life? Well look no further, Dino is here! I'm a pretty great pup, and might I be so bold as to say... I'm SO dang cute! What's my story? Well, I was found in a really dangerous area where City workers routinely poison stray dogs (can you believe that?!). Luckily, when we were just a week old, me and my 8 siblings were rescued from the scary streets along with our amazing mama! FEWF! Now we are all safe in foster care in Kuwait, but oh how we would love to find our furever homes. We've all heard grrrreat things about Canada, pretty please won't you take me there? Here's the deetz: I am likely to grow up into a medium sized dog, kinda like my mama who measures 20 inches tall. Check out her photo, ain't she purdddy? No wonder I'm so cute hehe. I exhibit typical puppy behaviour and boy am I ever ready for this big adventure called life!! I will be ready to travel to you in February; by which time I'll be microchipped and have had my first set of puppy vaccinations. I will still be too young to be neutered. My adoption fee of $600 includes my airfare to Canada.   Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website,  http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/  and to read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.    Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters.
