About A FOSTER Dog Application

This is the application that you should use if you are looking to apply to foster a dog AND ARE NOT planning to adopt.

Foster homes are one of the most important parts of any dog rescue. Without these homes, we wouldn't be able to rescue as many dogs as we do.

If you are looking to make a difference in a dogs life for a short period of time, please apply now.

What is fostering?

  • Fostering is agreeing to take a dog into your home, temporarily, while the rescue is receiving and reviewing applications for adoption.

What does it cost?

  • As a foster home, we can provide you with food, collar, leash. We will also cover any vet bills, but please speak to your foster coordinator before taking the dog to the vet unless its an emergency

What if I can only foster a small dog?

  • We will work with the limitations of our foster homes. If you are asked to foster a dog that is too big, please just let us know and we will look for another home.

What if I only want to foster a puppy?

  • Puppies are usually very easy to adopt and often don't need fostering. Please consider an older dog that could be even more fun!

What if I want to adopt?

  • If your intent is to adopt a dog, you will need to submit an adoption application for review.

I only want to foster a specific dog.

  • If you want a specific dog and only that dog, we recommend that you apply to adopt. International dogs are not normally available for fostering as we try to only bring them here if an approved adopter has been found.

We really need more foster homes and appreciate you reading this posting. I hope that you consider opening your heart and your home to help a dog in need. The love and care that you can provide for even a short period, will make a huge difference in the life of a dog.

Regards

Foster Team

Name: MATTY, male Breed : Shepherd/Retriever mix Age/Weight: 10 weeks/ 10lb Location: Kuwait   Hello out there, I am gentle Matty. You'll probably find me deep in the pile of puppy bodies enjoying the warmth and comfort of my siblings. What's my story? Well, I was found in a really dangerous area where City workers routinely poison stray dogs (can you believe that?!). Luckily, when we were just a week old, me and my 8 siblings were rescued from the scary streets along with our amazing mama. Now we are all safe in foster homes and waiting for you to let us know that we can join your family. Among my litter mates I am a follower. I don't like to be left behind, but I'm not adventurous enough to lead the way. Instead I happily trot along behind to see what they're up to. I'm like the little brother who's always calling out "wait for me".  I also get very attached to my people so I hope you are prepared to have me follow you around too! If you're looking for a gentle, sensitive soul who would benefit from having another calm dog in the home, then I would be a great pick.  I'll probably grow to a medium sized dog like my mom who's around 40lb.    I am too young to be neutered, but I am microchipped and have had my first set of puppy vaccinations. My adoption fee of $600 includes my airfare to Canada. Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website,  http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/  and to read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.    Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of the descriptions. Remember, every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person leading him and the environment. The age and breed of a dog is almost always an educated guess and at no time do we promise or guarantee the age or breed of a dog.    Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. Hello from India. I am Meera, a very young pup - just 2 1/2 months old and 8lb.  I will probably grow to about 35lb and have the build of a small Retriever/Whippet mix. I have very pretty fur with unusual markings. I was found on the golf course after a local momma dog attacked me. Maybe she thought I was a threat to her babies, I don't know. Whatever her reason it was a pretty scary thing but didn't cause me any serious physical harm. It spooked me so much that was quite wobbly on my legs for a while though. They took me to the vet where I had some X-rays taken and got checked out. It seems I'm O.K.  Stil, I had become a little weak and emaciated from living as a stray.  I needed some love and attention and so I have been placed in a foster home.  It's been like a doggy spa here.  I have been getting regular massages and plenty of good food so now I am back on my feet and able to run around like the puppy I am.  When I get excited I hop around on my front legs and my back legs pop out to the side so that my foster mom says I'm doing 'the chicken dance'.  It makes everyone smile at me and I like that.  When I first meet new people I am a little shy, but I warm up in no time and then I make an excellent lap-warmer or work assistant. Check out the photo of me hard at work with my foster dad. I think he really appreciates having me there to make sure he's doing a good job. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6yqIUjwsSY&feature=youtu.be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vD7l5F3vY-U&feature=youtu.be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9Vdhj5PWEw&feature=youtu.be The children around here all seem to like hanging out with me. Must be my natural charm! So if my new family includes kids I think that would work out very well. As for other dogs, well, I suppose I'm still a little timid and submissive after my recent experience, but that can be overcome once I meet a few more sweet-natured dogs. Already it's starting to become a faded memory. At the moment I am learning lots of new things like how to sleep quietly in my crate all night and to make sure I wait to be let outside before I do my business. I bet you could teach me things that are a lot more fun.  Do you think I could come and live with you now so we can start making new memories together? I would dearly love to have my very own human family.  There's oodles of love inside this tiny body you know.   I am too young to be spayed yet, but I have had my first puppy vaccinations and am microchipped. My adoption fee of $600 includes my airfare to Canada. Hi friends!   Miso here!  Miso is the Korean word for ‘smile’- and that will give you a hint about my personality.  If you’re looking for a ‘happy all the time friend’, I’m the dog for you!  I’m a 50 pound, 23 inch tall bundle of love.  I’m an approximately two year old male and my friends at the shelter figure I’m a terrier and Jindo cross.  I’m sure you’ll agree that I’m the perfect sized for being active with you during the day and cuddling next to you on the couch in the evenings.  And don’t you just love my beard….? I haven’t had the easiest life.  I was in a shelter for 1 ½ years- that’s a long time to not have a family to love, you know.  I am completely bathroom trained, I don’t really bark much and I am not prone to separation anxiety.  I am very well-mannered and have no health conditions.  It’s true that sometimes I guard my food a little- I think this is a habit left over from being in an animal shelter for such a long time - you have to learn to make sure no other pups take your food.  I’m also a wee bit food-oriented which means I’m a quick learner if treats are involved! If your family is an active one then I’ll fit right in.  I really enjoy walks and am good on-leash or off.  When I’m off-leash, I enjoy just exploring but without going too far from you.  I like having my person on a leash so everyone knows they’re mine!  I enjoy being around kids and other dogs- and cats, too.  If I get a sense from a smaller dog that they are uncomfortable around me, I back right off and watch while wagging my tail gently.  And while I like dogs and cats, my first choice is always to be with humans.  I can’t help myself- I love all of you.  So regardless of age, gender, height or whether someone is new to me, I’m going to wag my tail when I see them and hope for a little scratch behind the ears. Here I am meeting a child: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3x3XDizH1Q&list=PLhW1tPKt15h6Yn_pBF5qViIbvCoPJILUO My first meeting with this dog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEl-REeGVh8&list=PLhW1tPKt15h6Yn_pBF5qViIbvCoPJILUO&index=7 If you are looking for a very loving and loveable dog, then look no further.  Please just click ‘adopt’ below and I’ll gather up my things and start finding my way to you!   UPDATE: My adopters have had to return me due to unforeseen circumstances. Good news for you though, I'm LOCAL!! That means I'm nice and close so that y'all can come and meet me! Looking forward to greeting you with a wagging tail and some doggy kisses!    I have been neutered, vaccinated & micro-chipped.  My adoption fee is $550.00 CAD, this includes my airfare to Canada. Hello people, I am Moe, a curious, friendly little gal from Shanghai.  I am around 3 years of age and resemble a jack russel/beagle mix. I weigh 25lb and am 16 inches to my shoulders. My previous owners tossed me out on the streets when they grew tired of me. I know - awful isn't it, but it happens all the time around here. When I was first brought to this shelter I must admit I was not looking my best. I had developed an itchy, scaly skin condition from being exposed to the elements and going without proper food and care. But after a series of medicated baths and some good, hearty meals I am back to my former glory. Now, all I need is my special person to realize I'm their girl. It makes me excited to think that I will one day live in a real home again and enjoy snuggles and affection with my human. I've missed that since I've been here.   Once I have adjusted to life with you I think I would be a moderately active dog and I definitely have a playful side. I have lived with so many dogs here of all shapes and sizes, so it would be easy to share my home with another dog.  I have heard such great things about the life of a dog in a Canadian home. Some of them are so incredible I can't believe they are true - your own bed, your own toys, your own clothes even!  Wow, I don't even need all that. All I want is you.   I am spayed, vaccinated and microchipped and my adoption fee of $550 CAD includes my airfare to Canada.   **Vaccinations: Dogs from China are vaccinated for rabies, distemper, parainfluenza, hepatitis, parvovirus. Name: MOWGLI, male Breed : Shepherd/Saluki mix Age/Weight: 10 weeks/ 9lb Location: Kuwait   Hi, I am Mowgli, an adorable 10 week old puppy from Kuwait. We think I am a Shepherd/Retriever mix and will likely be anywhere between 35 to 50 lb when I grow up. Right now I'm just about 10lb and all about snoozes and snuggles! I was found, along with my mom and 8 siblings, in a really dangerous area where City workers routinely poison stray dogs (can you believe that?!). At the time we were just a week old.   Now we are all safe in foster care in Kuwait, but oh how we would love to find our furever homes.  At this tender age I am like any typical puppy; I love to eat, sleep and sometimes climb all over my brothers and sisters.  I try very hard to get their attention but sometimes none of them want to play with me and I find myself sitting off to the side and day dreaming. I'd love to have a brother or sister to play with in my new home, or maybe you can help me make a close friend at the dog park?  My foster people like to put a t-shirt on me and hold me in their arms and tell me how cute I am. I gotta say, I quite enjoy it when they do that.  I really hope you think I'm cute too. Enough to make you want to adopt me? I'd love to grow up with you there to teach me how to be the best dog I can possibly be.   I am microchipped and have had my first set of puppy vaccinations, but I am still be too young to be neutered. Murphy (Shahan/Shadow), male Shepherd / Border Collie / Saluki mix from Kuwait Weight: 50lb Shoulder height: 19 " Age:  2 years Relations: good with dogs, kids, cats Energy level: medium highlights: smart, energetic, stunning coat, SUPER affectionate with people   Hi there my name is Murphy and I was found wandering the streets of Mahboula, Kuwait as a puppy Some people tried to rescue me back then, but I was too scared of people to go with them, I wish I had. 2 years later I was found again by these kind people and this time I felt safe enough to go with them and I am so much happier now! I was brought to stay in a boarding facility with 10 other dogs and a lovely couple of 'hoomans'.  After 3 months of feeding and caring for me I started to feel a lot better, but then I got very sick. I was taken to the vet and was diagnosed with a tumour in my front left armpit. With aggressive therapy and lots of love and care the tumour has gone and the vet has declared me 100% healthy and ready for my forever home! YAY!!  If you're looking for a great canine companion to add to your family, please consider me. I'm good on the leash, I enjoy car rides, I'm not a big barker and I am house trained. This is me reluctantly arriving at the groomer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXI6XYxhbhY&feature=youtu.be I love other dogs and am not that interested in kitties, so I would be happy in a home with either.  I'm a very playful, friendly dog and I think you would have a lot of fun with me at your local dog park. On top of all that I love my 'hoomans' and enjoy snuggling up next to them whenever I can. Check out my lovely belly in one of the photo's. I'm showing it off in the hope the lady hooman will give it a scratch!  I love it when she does that! Please pick me to be your number one choice. We can share daily snuggles and belly rubs and I can make you laugh with my playful antics.  What more could you possibly need? UPDATE: Heads up everyone... I'm LOCAL! Please come visit me in Aldergrove, I bet you'll fall in love with me right away!! I have been neutered, vaccinated & micro-chipped. My adoption fee is $550.00 CAD, this includes my airfare to Canada.     Looking for more furry friends? Hiya! I’m Myla, a beautiful Saluki Mix pup from Bahrain. I am two years old, weigh 55 pounds, and stand about 65cm tall. Aren’t I purdyyy? My rescuers describe me as a sweet and energetic dog who enjoys walks and cuddles – oh how I LOVES the cuddles! I am gentle with everyone I meet; hoomans, doggos, and kitty cats. Well, I may not be super excited about kitty cats, but as you can see from my video… I don’t seem remotely bothered by their presence.  What’s my story? I was rescued as a puppy (along with my mama and my three siblings) and have been living with my dog fam ever since. My mama (Sophia) was recently adopted and even though I’ll miss her soooo much, I’m so happy that she has a loving home to go to. I have doggy dreams of being adopted myself! Would you please consider giving me a furever home?  I LOVE my people and will always be more than happy to come to you for affection, food, or fun!   Being a young dog, I love to exercise! Perhaps we could check out some dog parks or some of the hiking trails I’ve heard so much about? I’m pretty chill once I’ve had my daily walk... maybe I could have a big comfy bed to cuddle up on while I nap?  My sweet face and loving nature makes me an ideal pupcake for any family or single person. Pleaseeeee give me a home!! I have been spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. My adoption fee is $550.00 CAD, this includes my airfare to Canada. Nectar (Nokhod) Breed: Basenji/Aust. Cattledog Age: 1 yr Gender: fe, spayed Wgt/Hgt: 42 lbs / almost 20 inches Energy level: moderate to active Relations: good with dogs / unknown kids & cats Highlights: playful, off gait in rear, outgoing, enjoys sleeping with you Although my story may make you sad, you can bring a happy new beginning to it. I was born in a very dirty place, full of chemical pollutants here in the Middle East. A heavy vehicle ran over my leg when I was but a couple months old. I ran to a swampy area scared and hurt. Because of the mucky area, I got an infection in my leg. My rescuer took me to the big city, where I had a FHO surgery (Femoral Head Osteotomy) in the summer of 2019. It is a fairly common surgery for a hip problem in North America. Unfortunately, after my surgery I was not well cared in the hospital. I was kept in a cage for 17 days, so my leg got bedsores & infected again... My rescuer was very upset and brought me to a different hospital. There, they treated my leg and started me on some physiotherapy, which I did for 3 months. Finally, I could walk again. My leg is all healed and doing A-ok. You can see in my video though, that I kind of do a bit of a hop-skip when I get going faster. It doesn't stop me at all though. I'd say my activity level is moderate to fairly active. I love to play with other dogs and with a ball too. https://youtu.be/HUnrJrhgu9k. I am a playful and kind girl, who tends to be outgoing. People, I just love. I sure hope you are going to let me sleep with you, as I really like to do that and be close. In fact, I prefer to be touching you when I am sleeping. You will find I am as sweet as nectar. Call me a love bug, but you will be hard pressed to find a more terrific companion than me. I have been spayed/neutered, *vaccinated & micro-chipped. Hello from Shanghai.  My name is Nibbs and I am a 10 month old terrier mix, 15lb and 12 inches tall. Have you ever felt like you've had the rug pulled out from under you? That nothing is quite the way it should be and you just don't feel all that confident? Well, that's what it's like for me right now.  Somehow I found myself all alone on a dark city street.  I'm just a small, vulnerable puppy so it was quite terrifying to be out there all alone. The next thing I knew someone picked me up and put me in a van, along with a bunch of other scared dogs. It seems the city workers regularly round up any stray dogs they find and take the to a holding center. After a while I was brought here to this big animal shelter where I am overwhelmed by all the dogs and the noise around me.  It's all too much! Too much noise and chaos and no-one to comfort me.  Please can you get me out of here? I am young and sweet and would give anything to grow up in a home of my own instead of a busy shelter. You can see from my video that I am a timid little guy right now, but once I'm out of here I know I will blossom. It happens to the other dogs that have found homes. I can live with one or even two other dogs - just not 200 of them - please.  My gentle nature means I'd probably be just fine with cats too. If you want, I'm sure they could introduce me to cats here.  I'll do anything if it will help me find a home!  Once I'm living with you, just watch:  my puppy self will finally be allowed to express itself and we'll be playing and cuddling together in no time. Please make it happen soon.   I am neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and my adoption fee of $600 includes my airfare to Canada. Hey there!  I’m Ollie, originally from Bali!  I'm a four year-old male Kintamani, which is similar in appearance to a Retriever.   I weight 44 pounds and stand 27 inches high.  My rescuers found me thrown in a drain when I was just a small pup.  At the time, I had a blood parasite and was ill for many months but good veterinary care got me healthy again- no further treatment needed!  W’hooo!   The next years of my life were spent sharing a home with a bunch of other rescued dogs. We all became good friends and I was also especially fond of the child who lived with us. Sadly our rescuers have had to return to Australia and couldn't take us there with them, so now I have come to Canada to look for a home.  It was thought I would prefer to be the only dog in the home, but when we tried that at my last foster home I became quite distressed.  Probably the best scenario for me would be to live with a calm, female dog and people who are around a lot of the time.  I bond hard and fast to the ladies in the home, but I have a harder time with trusting men.  I'm learning, but I need some time and nice guys to practice with. When I'm out and about with my foster mom, I'm a very good dog. I'm obedient and polite when meeting other dogs and people, and I don't pull on the leash.  Cars are still a bit confusing to me, but with time, I might become a road-tripper!  My moderate energy level means I enjoy our walks but, am also very chill in the house.  I have a new bed, and it is the best thing ever!  Is it nap time? My new foster mom is quite impressed with how well I've adapted to my new world and wants you to know I'm an easy dog to love.  I should also mention that I'm super sweet and I don't mind when she dresses me up in funny outfits! Hello, my name is Oreo and I am a handsome 6-year old pitbull mix, weighing in at about 45 lbs. I was found with a badly infected foot by a lovely lady in Mexico. I was not able to bear weight on my foot and it was not looking very good. I was taken to the vet and the lady was told that I was a street-doggy who would chase cars. I must have gotten too close to a car, because my foot got run over! I was in a lot of pain due to the injury and infection, so the vet determined that the best plan was to remove a toe. I am doing SOOO much better now! My foster mum says that I still have a small open area on my right foot (where the outside toe was removed), so they keep it covered anytime I go outside. I have a teeny bit of a limp, but that will probably go away with time - I'm still healing!  I am a really handsome guy, did you see my pictures? I have a unique nose, it gives me character!  My rescuer in Mexico said I am a very sweet boy, I walk well on a leash, I listen, and I LOVE people. I am super loving with people and I am OK with other dogs, as long as they give me my space. I am a BIG softy with a wonderful personality, despite being on the streets of Mexico alone and without love for so long. Now that I have arrived in Canada, I'm living in a foster home. My new foster mom says I am a total sweetheart and that my future owner will easily fall in love with me. This is what my foster mama has said about me: "Right from the beginning Oreo has been nothing but gentle, kind, and well-mannered. There has never been any accidents in the house, no chewing on anything he shouldn’t, no getting into garbage etc. Oreo is starting to become gently protective of us, so I have absolutely no qualms about walking alone at night! He tolerates other dogs as long as they don’t run up and get in his face. It is my suggestion he goes to a home with no other dogs. We also have no idea about how he would react to a cat. Fun facts... Oreo hates the snow and doesn't know how to play with toys! Squeaky toys, balls, you name it... Oreo doesn't like it! ALL he wants is to be with you! Oh, he also loves large, raw marrow bones and all treats (om nom nom!).  Oreo LOVES to cuddle on the couch (check out his adorable pics) and he is great in the car (yay road trips!!)" I know I'm ready to fall in love with you. Please come and meet me so we can start our life together.   I am neutered and vaccinated and my adoption fee is $500 CAD    Looking for more furry friends? This is NOT a dog belonging to LALDR. This is a courtesy posting. Please do not contact us, as we know nothing about the dog. For more information, please contact ayaladia@ualberta.ca Pancha is a sweet, loving girl rescued and currently living in Mexico. She came to us after a life outside and after being neglected by her previous owner. She has adapted to an inside life quickly and is full of love to give. Pancha has some leash anxiety that she is currently working through: she is great with other dogs in her pack, but barks to other dogs in the street during walks. She would do best in a home with patient, breed savvy owners, that have the love and energy she needs to enjoy her new life indoors. Pancha is very food motivated and learns quickly. She needs some basic recall training. She sits happily for a cookie and to receive her meals. Pancha would be good with dog savvy kids, she grew up playing with kids in the streets of Mexico. She currently lives with two cats and she enjoys following the cats around, but has never been aggressive towards them. If you have experience and think this sweet girl would be a great addition to your family, please contact us. The adoption fees would cover part of Pancha's relocation costs, but vaccination, deworming and spay surgery (all which have been done) are on us!   If you are interested in Pancha, please email ayaladia@ualberta.ca show less
