About Diesel

Meet Diesel! Diesel is a 2.5-year-old sweet dog with similarities to a Pit Bull. Diesel was originally an owner surrender due to a life change requiring a move. The person was going to have his sister, Princess, and her euthanized until his dog sitter stepped in and convinced her to surrender them.  Both have been in a foster home since December 8th. Per Diesel’s foster “He absolutely loves to cuddle, and tries be up in my lap with his face in mine, which is reminiscent of excited jumping behavior, which I try to correct by having him sit next to me, and he will then try to burrow under my legs, so I think he would be happy in any spot of the cuddle puddle, as long as he’s in it. His favorite toys are balls, he loves to chase them and I’ve been trying to teach fetch using the word “back” when I throw something. He brings the ball right over, and accepts praise for being such a smart boy, but he would much rather wander off and chew on it for a while. He is just barely getting the idea of the “release” command and will sort of turn his head up to present the ball but doesn’t let go until I start taking it from him. He also loves chasing and chewing on sticks, Kongs, and beef bones. I have only given him the beef bones when he is alone and won’t be disturbed, as a precaution. I also have his food and water bowls on a raised stand and haven’t witnessed any aggression. I have trained him to sit and wait in the doorway to my laundry room while I fill the food and water bowls, switch a load of laundry and do what I need to do to get everything ready for him before I tell him that it is “okay” to go ahead and eat. He does wait like an angel, but I will admit he is like a bull in a china shop running to the bowl, and he does eat fast.  I have been working on him with diverting his attention while he’s eating, just by calling him to come over to me for skritches, then going back to the food, and he is doing much better. He will also sit and wait in his crate with the door open while I open the door to go outside, walk outside myself first and then wait for an “okay” to be released.  He does fine in the car, but he wants to be in your lap, so I put a barrier up between my front and back seats. In addition to working on fetch/release, he knows sit (holding your right index finger pointed up), lay down (swoop your hand from the upright finger in a downward motion until your whole hand is flat, palm facing the ground), and wait (hand in front of you, palm facing him). He’s getting better at walking on a leash but does still pull a little. I usually use a short leash, with a harness that clips in the front and hold it behind my back so that his shoulder is just behind my thigh, so he is learning to heel and keeps improving.” Diesel has not been around children or cats. Diesel is up to date on his shots, neutered, house broken, and crate trained. Meet Big Daddy! This guy took 4 whole months to capture! He was found as a stray who ran with Big Momma and was leery of humans. We can only imagine how long they were out there fending for themselves.  We did not give up on them, we kept feeding them and earned their trust until we were able to capture both safely. Big Daddy was super unsure about us, but never in an aggressive manor. We took him to the vet for shots and a physical and all was well except he came back HW positive, so he is currently being treated for that.  A couple days later, this beautiful  67 lb of mush came out!  He has not stopped smiling since and his tail is forever wagging!  For someone who didn’t want to be rescued he’s sure loving it now and thankful every day for his second chance at life with people who actually love him and care about him. The last picture in his bio is when he was given his first doggie bed and looked up at the foster confused and unsure.  You can see from that photo to the photo of him now,  what a HUGE difference love has made in his life!  His foster mom can’t say enough about him.  He’s estimated to be only 18 months old.  He is now neutered and UTD on all shots. He is available for adoption and is currently being fostered in Mississippi waiting his furever home or a willing foster home in the PA/NJ area. If you are interested in Big Daddy go to charliescrusaders.org to apply today! Or any questions about him please message us on a Facebook at Charlie’s Crusaders Pet Rescue ! . He is still available for adoption and is currently being fostered in Mississippi until he finds his forever home or a willing foster in The the PA/NJ area. MEET CHANCE: Chance is a beautiful 61lb 7 month old pup that has similarities to a Lab/American Bulldog mix. Chance is very affectionate, super smart, is a total people pleaser, great with kids, wants to play with all the dogs (but is a huge puppy, so he needs to learn puppy manners as he doesn't know his own size - he will lick all the dogs faces) and tries to play with cats even though the cat he is being fostered with is having no part of it. He has been fostered with a 4 year old girl and lets her lay all over him as he loves the snuggles. He enjoys long walks, but is also satisfied to come in and be a couch potato after he's had a good walk. He loves to sleep in his foster Mom's bed (he is a spooner). He's a medium energy dog, and needs some work on the leash. We recommend basic obedience classes to help him know how to approach dogs better, as he is so excited to meet every dog. He is housetrained, does not like the crate so his foster puts him in a bedroom when she leaves and he does great. He is not a chewer or destructive and is very happy to have been rescued from the High Kill shelter in MS, where he was to his final day on the urgent list when we pulled him. He would be a great family dog as he is the sweetest boy, and ideally would love to have kids in his life. Meet Sam and David our bonded brothers from a junk yard!Sam is said to be a long haired lab mix and Sam is a beagle/ shepard mix. Both boys are around 1 year old. They were both dropped off at a common dump spot for pets in memphis. They found shelter in a junk yard and the staff took care of them until the company went under new managment and threatened to shoot them if they didn't get off the property. They have since been fostered in a barn with one another and need a foster in the PA/NJ area. They are both very sweet and love to cuddle and be loved on. They both have been around cats and dont seem to mind them unless they try to play with the cat. Some of the barn cats play back and some just run away. Both are very dog friendly, they have lots of foster brothers and sisters that they play with. Because this duo needs to be adopted together a fenced in yard is a must have for them to romp around with each other freely.David is the more laid back one , where as Sam just wants to play.. Sam and David have both been around kids 8 yrs old and up and love thenm! Both are neutered and UTD and finished HW treatment so they are READY FOR THEIR NEW HOME TOGETHER!! If you are interested in Sam and David to foster or to adopt , please go to charliescrusaders.org to apply! Jett  About a year old probable Shepherd/Pit mix. He is a laid back, very intelligent, quiet guy who just wants to be with you 24/7. He was rescued off the streets of Memphis, TN. His new mommy who rescued him planned on keeping him, but sadly she passed away shortly after rescuing him. He came to his foster mom quiet, shy, and craving love. Did not take him long to being one of the best snuggle buddies there ever was and is happy to lay with you all day on the couch, follow you around the house so he knows where you are, or going on a walk/shopping. He is protective of his foster mom and wi try to pull her away from the other dogs in his foster home when they get too rowdy. He tries to pull her away from the commotion. He is quick to learn commands. He knows sit, and working on down. Walks well on a leash. He is a work in progress with manners but will sit for his meals now.  **NOT CAT FRIENDLY** Small dogs seem ok with him and does well with other dogs when introduced properly and given the chance to warm up to the dog. He currently lives with 3 other dogs who he gets along with but may be better if he is the only dog in his furever home.He loves to romp and play with his foster brother. He loves going out and meeting people. He seems to do really well with kids when he meets them .He seems to be afraid of men and will be shy and timid at first.  Special considerations- he does have a leg that was injured pretty bad at some point and it healed up wrong. He has had two opinions from two different vets saying that surgery is not needed unless it starts affecting how he gets around and overall quality of life. He gets along very well despite it. He may not be the dog for you if you want a running partner, but does love going on walks. He is on glucosamine tablets to maintain his hip joint help prevent arthritis. It was recommended he be given a high quality glucosamine supplement for the rest of his life to help prevent further damage as long as possible. He has anxiety meds if he has to be crated (he goes crazy being put in a crate and will still get out of the crate unless drastic measures to keep it closed/together) but does well in the house without being crated.  We believe  he would thrive in a home that someone is there all the time. He’s been left behind so many times he gets nervous when left alone. Possibly a retired couple to take him whereever they go? Or someone that’s able to take him to work with them and just lay his dog bed in the corner next to them? He’s definitely a love bug and just needs a human he can Velcro himself too!He LOVES car rides too! He is Currently being fostered in the Mechanicsburg, PA area and available for meet and greets!!!If you would love to be Jett’s forever buddy please go to charliescrusaders.org to apply ! Any questions , please message us on Facebook at Charlie’s Crusaders Pet Rescue! Another note from his Forster :His foster mom has come to love him and would love to be able to at least get updates on him and how he is doing. He will be missed. show less
