Hi! I'm Sky! I'm just a big goofy two year old, 60 lbs., shepherd mix pup who will love you a lot...especially if you give me YUMMY treats!! I don't discriminate - any treat will do, just please don't give me treats around other furry friends, I don't like to share. They're just so good!! Sky is now in a foster home, so we are learning a lot more about him. We are figuring out what kind of home would be best for him. Sky needs a home with someone who will be with him most of the time to keep him company (other dogs are not enough). Sky has all of the qualities that you want in a great dog: he is friendly, affectionate, not aggressive, housetrained, listens pretty well, good with kids, not a barker, good in the car, gets along well with other dogs and cats, a pretty easy walk, etc., etc. All around nice dog and brilliant companion. BUT, Sky has separation anxiety and if the big guy is left alone in a house/room he will probably get into trouble. BUT (again) once you see what a cool dog Sky is, you will gladly do what you can to help him with his “issue”. PAW is working with Sky and his foster family to help figure him out. We have taken him to a behaviorist vet and he now has some meds to help to calm the anxiety that plagues him when he is alone. Sky is currently doing well when left alone in a crate for a couple of hours at a time. Sky needs a lifestyle where someone is with him most of the time so they can enjoy each other’s company. Best candidates: active retired folks would be perfect – that’s his foster environment. Full-time telecommuters, Sky can help sooth you through your work day. Bring your dog to work opportunities – these seem to be popping up. Sky would definitely be a big hit at the coffee pot. Stay-at-home families that would love beautiful Sky around their home. Sky is not for everyone but if you are among the stay-with-him candidates, you will get an outstanding dog. Come to an adoption show and see him, give him some treats.

***Courtesy Post*** if interested, PAW will put you in contact with Tyson's foster Notes from his foster: Tyson is a four year old male pitbull mix. As far as personality, he is an absolute lovebug for humans - truly one of the sweetest and most tolerant dogs I have ever been around even after a couple years volunteering in shelters. He is fully crate trained and housebroken. He knows basic and intermediate commands and is extremely obedient. He is, however, not great with other dogs. His temperament around other dogs has improved since I took him in two years ago (e.g. he used to get agitated and growl when he got within ~20 feet of another dog, but the amount of space he now requires has decreased). While I believe he will keep improving in this regard, he would have to be the only dog in his new home and he would likely not do well in a dog park. He is energetic and enjoys brisk walks, loves to play, and is highly responsive to treats and toys.

Ziggy is 3 years old and weighs 45lbs. Ziggy has lots of energy and would benefit from an active family. Ziggy lives with 2 dogs, one bigger and one smaller, but he can be selective about his dog friends. Ziggy needs some work being more comfortable walking on leash, but he and his foster are working with a trainer and he is making great progress. An adult only home is preferred for Ziggy, however older teens may be okay. Ziggy does not attend adoption events because all of the commotion stresses him out. A one-on-one meeting can be arranged with a no obligation application. Ziggy is a smart guy and he is housetrained. He would not do well in an apartment. Ziggy's foster is surprised that he keeps getting over-looked, because despite not putting his best paw forward when he first meets people, he's a great dog and would make the right family a devoted, eternally grateful companion. To submit an adoption application go to: https://www.petstablished.com/pets/public/256884 Come and meet our PAW dogs at one of our weekend adoption shows at local area pet stores. The shows run from 12 - 2 pm. Not all our dogs attend every show so if you are interested in meeting a particular dog send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org before coming to the show to arrange a visit. PLEASE NOTE: We can adopt our animals to locations within one to two hours of the MD/DC/VA metropolitan area.
