About Dexter

Dexter is an awesome little guy who is much sweeter than he seems at first meeting. He does well with most other dogs, and would love a fenced yard to romp in. Despite his age, he loves to romp and lay out in the sun on a toasty day. He is in a foster home with another dog and does well with them, and is a very loyal little dude. He isn't a fan of getting his nails trimmed or being restrained, but is manageable. Give Dexter a chance to show you how wonderful he is, he is ready for a home of his own!

Dexter's adoption fee has been sponsored by a HAR parent who said goodbye to Crumpet recently, and wanted to help Dexter find his forever home!

Words from his fabulous foster mom in response to our Q & A session: "What makes your foster delightful/special? - He comes across as a tough guy, but he's really all mush when you get to know him. He'll plow into you for attention and then sit quietly next to you with his paw on your lap." "What cute things does he do? - He circles and pounces on baby carrots before he eats them. They're his favorite snack!" "What activities does your foster like most? - He likes to go on sniffing adventures on the nature trail at the park." "Describe THE ideal home for your foster: - He would love a home with adults and a dog buddy for companionship. He would enjoy a fenced in yard where he can explore on his own. It doesn't have to be an active home with lots of noise, but he does enjoy mental stimulation from the TV, radio, or puzzles to keep him curious. He would make a great travel companion in the car or RV. He loves to get out and about!" "What would you want people to know about your foster? - Dexter is a quirky guy with a lot of character."

Dexter’s personality is really sweet and he loves to play with his soft toys. You can see typical terrier qualities as far as energy, playfulness, feistiness and loyalty.  He bonds quickly to one person and wants to be your buddy, but he has lots of other human and doggy friends! He is a senior boy who weighs about 12 pounds.  He is a sweet and affectionate little guy who takes a bit to warm up to new people, but once he does, he is a super-cuddly companion. He has so much love to give!

I’m Gus (aka Gus Gus). My favorite things in the world are constant cuddles, napping on throw pillows, and taking my human on leisurely walks. Not gonna lie, I’m a bit of a couch hog. Personal space isn’t really my forte, so be prepared to share your fluffy pillows, fuzzy blankets, and legroom. But, in exchange for tolerating my boundary issues, I’ll keep you warm and give you lots of kisses. I’ve started receiving a lot of mail from AARP, so I guess that means I’m over the hill. Thankfully, that also means I’m pretty low maintenance. Nothing makes me happier than spending my day napping and cuddling with you. And, when you inevitably have to drag yourself off the couch and start adulting, I’ll deal. I’m great in my crate, especially when you toss in something comfy for me to sleep on. Although I’m extremely affectionate and willing to tolerate just about anything from my foster mom (even baths!!), I’m still wary of strangers, and would be happiest in a home with just a couple adults who I know and trust. I wasn’t very well cared for in my early years, and the shelter was pretty traumatic for me. I’m still learning that I’m finally safe and loved. I just need someone who is willing to be patient with me and earn my trust. I promise I’m worth it. Pebbles is a healthy three-year-old Chihuahua mix sweetheart. Pebbles has a very submissive and sweet personality: she loves her people and other dogs. Pebbles howls with joy after reuniting with her foster family member—even after only a few hours of separation. She also is very affectionate with other dogs. She especially loves her foster brother, and wouldn't stop kissing him. Pebbles is not a fussy eater, and she is house, crate, and leash trained. Pebbles would do best with an active family who can take her out for regular exercise, and ideally with a family who have at least one other friendly dog as a companion. Pebbles will become a wonderful, loving member for her forever family. Check out Pebbles' bio she posted to PAWfectmatch.com : Name: Pebbles Age: 3 Breed: Chi Body type: Petite. I look good in everything and I love sweater weather! Alternate ego: Rose from the Golden Girls Likes: Hanging with my friends (furry and non), naps in the sun, long walks in the yard Dislikes: Being chased. But I rarely play hard to get! Perfect date: Picnicking at the park, doing a crossword, and sipping iced tea Best Quality: I loooove when you get home and have the cutest little howl to tell you how happy I am to see you Worst Quality: I'm slow to trust and a bit shy with strangers at first Looking for: The simple things in life. A kind human. A furry friend or two. A soft place to nap. Someone to feed me. Interested in taking this gal on a date? Head to hopeanimals.org to tell her you're interested! Wanted: Human that will take me hiking and jogging! I'm a three year old boy that is potty trained, friendly, and enjoys adventures out on the town (my foster dad takes me to something called a brewery, I think it's a place where people come specifically to pet me so I love it!). Oh and in case you were curious about my name, PSB stands for Pumpkin Spice Barkke because I joined the rescue during PSL season but most people just call me Pumpkin. Here is what my foster dad has to say about me: "Something important to know about him - he absolutely LOVES other dogs and going to the dog park. You know that person at the party that has to become friends with everyone? Well that's Pumpkin at the dog park! He'll make friends with the little chihuahua, he'll make friends with the giant mastiff, he'll make friends with the puppy having their first trip to the park.....he just loves them all!! Of course he knows who provides the food so he loves humans too. Once he's tired he enjoys getting close to me so he can enjoy some good ear rubs which I love because his ears are silky soft." I'd love having an energetic doggy sibling but would also do fine in a home where I can gets lots of interacting with my humans. A fenced in yard would be absolutely heavenly too! Hope to meet you and join your family soon! Check out Red’s bio he posted to PAWfectmatch.com : 🐾 Big Red, 2 years old πŸ’Ό Trailblazer 🌲🍁 πŸ‹οΈ‍♂️ 53 pounds (but I think I’m a lap dog) πŸ“ I flip between soft surfaces or outside with my nose up a tree Likes: snackies, sniffing, snuggling, belly rubs, stealing my foster sister’s toys, food on the counter, my crate Dislikes: large crowds, letting my foster parents have personal space Perfect Date: A long walk in the woods, steak dinner, and then lots of couch cuddling Best quality: if you want affection, I’ve got plenty to give. You’ll be the most important part of my life! Worst quality: I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want me in your face every time you’re on the couch, but if you tell me where I’m allowed, I’ll get there eventually. What I’m looking for in a pawfect match: a family that will teach me all about being a good boy! I’ve already mastered ‘sit’, I love sleeping in my crate, and I know where to use the bathroom all by myself, but I’m sure I could learn more and I’ll respond to your consistent commands. I would love a home with a yard to run around and sniff outside, but come in to take a nap someplace soft. I think being a little brother would be pretty cool, but they need to be patient with me when I try to steal their things. Lastly, I want a family that will love me as much as I love them! I may be a big, strong guy, but I’m a softie when it comes to my heart. ❀️ Do you think Red is the guy for you? If so, head to hopeanimals.org and send him a message! Steiner

American Staffordshire Terrier

Are you afraid to go to the bathroom alone? Or perhaps you are scared to go into the other room, even though you were just there? If so, Steiner is your man! He is very loving and affectionate, and will follow you everywhere to make sure you are okay. Steiner loves to sit in your lap, but if he must sit beside you, then he enjoys sitting upright like a little human - so goofy! Steiner loves his canine foster sisters and plays well with other dogs. He has great manners and listens well, but has no real concept of personal space (LOL). Steiner is young (~1.5-2 years old), a perfect medium size (~55 lbs), and has medium-high energy. He LOVES to play fetch and run around outside or wrestle with his foster sisters. Steiner knows “drop-it” and “leave-it” and other commands like “sit”, “lay-down”, and “stay”. He is such a smart boy! Sadly, Steiner hasn’t had the best start in life. Steiner came into a shelter banged up with a broken leg. They believe he was hit by or tossed from a car. A good Samaritan found him in a snow filled ditch. On top of his broken leg and all the bumps and bruises from the car accident, poor Steiner also had mange. After 2 surgeries and many baths, Steiner is completely healed. Even with his bad luck, Steiner remained as sweet and loving as ever! He is going to make the perfect addition to a very lucky family!!
