About Barnaby

*****CROSS POST**** This looker is Barnaby Freckleton, the 1 year old Basset/Lab/Husky mix with the freckled face, stumpy legs, and giant heart! This loving, 60 lb. boy is on the lookout for his perfect home!

Barnaby spent the first half of his life in the shelter, so he's overjoyed at being safe and doted on in his foster home. Unlike most of us at this point, Barnaby still loves the snow -- in fact he launches himself into snow banks! He also loves prancing around with his orange squishy ball in his mouth "Don't take! Only throw!".  He's playful and loves other dogs, Barnaby's the king of doggy daycare at Waggin' Tailz Ranch, but he's also learned to respect that the older dog in his foster home doesn't want to play. Barnaby makes his foster family laugh daily and is truly a happy boy, who considers it his job to follow everyone around and be part of the family. He loves going for walks and does really well with his harness.

Barnaby gets some anxiety when people leave and in new situations. He will bark and cry in his crate for about 20-30 minutes when he is left alone.  He is on some special, inexpensive medication that has helped him a lot and he does calm and sleep in his crate like a very good boy. Continued routine and structure will give Barnaby confidence that his family will always come back for him. Barnaby would love another dog in the house (especially with one that would romp with him), and he'd also make a great only dog. Barnaby does forget his 60 lb. size and has puppy energy, so we think Barnaby's ideal home would have kids at least 10 years old. Barnaby is a very good boy, who is going to make a great companion. I was asked today what my forever home should look like. As I thought about it, it became clear that I do not care what it looks like! However, I dream of having a warm and loving family that will be patient with me as I learn to open up more and become more trusting. When I first came to BBRH I was very nervous of people and was not sure what living in a house was about but now I love to be petted and snuggle with people! I can still be a little nervous when you are up and moving about, however, I will follow you from room to room searching out attention and paw at you to try to get it. Once you have planted yourself firmly on the couch, in a chair or even on the floor, you can guarantee that I will be right up next to you. For the right family, not only will I love you with my whole heart, but I will do my best to protect you from anything scary. I need a fenced back yard so I can go outside to potty (I really do not like to go potty inside) and I am still learning about going on walks. Another dog to help show me the ropes and to play with would be just fine with me but I also would not mind having all of your attention to myself! Although I am not a puppy anymore, I still like to do puppy things since it is all still new to me. A little guidance from a caring family and I will thrive! Are you that family? Amber is approximately 6-8 years old and has lost a little weight, now weighing in at 31 pounds. She is up to date on all of her vaccinations, spayed, microchipped and heartworm negative. She is currently being fostered in the Kansas City area with an adoption fee of $225. She is a beautiful, sweet girl who is really starting to open up! show less

I am a Chocolate Beagle and your typical rambunctious puppy that just keeps on going. I am a very playful, sweet, happy puppy. I love to be held and get in lots of snuggles, kisses and playtime. I play with toys and wrestle with my siblings. I have not been exposed to cats yet. I need someone with patience that’s willing to work with me on my basic commands as I get distracted pretty easily since I really would rather be playing. Since I am only a 12 week old puppy I will need to be potty trained so you will need to teach me where to go and how to ask until I get the hang of it. Our foster home has me and my siblings in a large play area during the daytime where we can play and I kennel at night. If you are looking for a puppy that will need LOTS of attention and patience I may be what you are looking for. I will need toys to keep me occupied, maybe a playmate and of course lots of snuggles and kisses from you. I was born on December 20, 2018, have had 2 sets of puppy shots, been microchipped and dewormed. I will need 2 more sets of puppy shots, my rabies shot when I’m old enough and I will need to be altered. When I get altered you will get your $50 deposit back. My adoption fee is $250 plus the deposit. Apply for me if you want true love in your life forever! I am a forever doggie, not an until something happens doggie! We are fostered in Omaha, NE. show less

Fostered in Omaha - This smile says it all, doesn't it? Cooper is a happy boy who loves life and is always on the go looking for a new adventure or friend! This boy is a mover and a shaker, but most of all a mover, who would enjoy being active with his family. We think this kid would make an awesome running partner or agility dog, where he could show off his stamina and his desire to please his person. He gets a little nervous in new places, but with someone patient and a little work, we think he would really enjoy discovering the world since he does so well in the car. Cooper is a hound/shepard mix -- really an All-American boy and completely unique. He loves to play with other dogs, and has a rough and tumble personality with a bold play-style -- not for dog playmates who are faint of heart! Cooper is working on learning to share toys, but could live with other pups and thrive so long as boundaries are set and followed by his family. Cooper loves puzzle feeding toys and is one smart cookie! Cooper is an adolescent dog, so he will need someone to continue showing him how to be the best dog he can be. He's a loving boy and very loyal, a kid who likes to keep his people close, but is also fine hanging out and chewing a bone rather than demanding constant attention. We think Cooper is as special as they come and we cannot wait for him to find his family. If you think that may be you, apply today! Cooper is microchipped, UTD on shots and is neutered. Cooper is 55 lbs. Fostered in Omaha, NE. show less

Hi future mom and/or dad, My names Daisy and am a 11 year old Beagle. I might be mature and curvy, but I have the spirit and heart of a dog half my age. I want two things in life running around in a very secure fence (like to dig my way out) and to snuggle with you. I love belly rubs. I also love short walks around the neighborhood. I do have some minor health issues. I tore my ACL on my back left knee in September of 2017 year. BBRH paid for my surgery last. I limp from time to time. I have arthritis in the back, knee, and paws. For the knee and joints I receive a daily dose of a joint chewy and fish oil. I have seasonal allergies and I take Benadryl to help relieve my symptoms. I take a weekly pill (DES) for urinary incontinence. I was told by the vet that this issue is common in old gals. I have recently been diagnosed with Lupus of the toenail. My foster mom looks at my toenails weekly to make sure none are infected or bleeding. At this time, no medication is required. When the Lupus worsens I will need to take a low dose of a steroid pill daily. I get along with the 3 resident cats. I avoid them they avoid me, a win-win situation. My foster mom has a middle-age Beagle that I love hanging out with in the backyard and a younger dog that is too much for my mature self. I am seeking someone that is home most days for I can keep an eye on the squirrels. I would love to have another dog to snuggle and to help patrol the yard with me. Since, I have joint issues and older I prefer no young kids in the household. I'm being fostered in Lincoln, NE. My adoption fee is $150.00. Love, Daisy Daisy is current on vaccinations, HW negative, spayed and micro chipped. show less

The eyes are the window to the soul we have been told. This boys soul is one of the sweetest. Dexter is a 10 year old Beagle who found himself coming into rescue from a previous owner who did not have time for him and his issue anymore. This loving boy is house broken and will cue to be let outside. He does not need crated and prefers not to be. He loves children and does great with other dogs too! (Cats unknown). Dexter LOVES food, so much that he is willing to jump on a chair to help himself to your left overs! His dog food and other human food does need to be safely kept out of reach or locked so that he does not find himself in a feast and end up at the vet again!! Poor Dexter does suffer from chronic severe allergies, so he needs a patient owner that is willing to provide consistent medication and occasional baths. He has been receiving this attention and is much more comfortable than when we first got him. He would do best in a home where someone is present most of the time, as he suffers from severe separation anxiety. He is what we consider 'speechless' for a hound dog until you leave the house. He does not show destructive behavior but will howl, cry, bark, and excessively pace when you leave him. While you are home you can find him curled up in a blanket, taking a snooze! He is an extremely sweet and gentle boy who wants a loving home with a person to cuddle up next to for his retirement. Are you that person? **The vet said he will probably be allergy ridden and on meds for life. Some may need to be switched in the future . Dexter averages about $80 of meds every 15 days.... plus he is on prescription shampoo and foam but that lasts awhile. As part of Dexters adoption his foster mom, who is a groomer, will offer Dexter’s new owners an extremely heavily discounted grooming fee if they want to bring him for baths. (It would include bath, nails, and ear cleaning). **** Dexter is current on vaccinations, HW negative, neutered, and micro chipped. His adoption fee is $125.00. Dexter is fostered in Omaha, NE. show less

Are you looking for a great, low key, chill companion? Im your girl!! My favorite thing to do is relax. I am super friendly with everyone. My Foster Mama calls me Lacey Love, Lovey Lace, Love Bug, and Love. I am a beautiful, sweet, curvy girl, on my way to a spread in Womens Day magazine to show off my new figure! I have lost 1/6 of my body weight, and I have only 4-5 pounds left to go! You see, my previous owner was not able to take good care of me, I was fed constantly, and also had a previous hip injury that needed surgery. BBRH provided FHO surgery (femoral head osteotomy), a fancy way of saying the bone and hip were so damaged and degenerated that they had to cut out the top half of my femoral bone. So, I am still gaining strength and confidence back. I can walk and wobble around (better when food is involved), but am still unsure with steps (I regularly do 2-3 steps to go inside and out, with patience, encouragement and praise). I am not yet confident enough to do a staircase. I also struggle with hard surfaces like linoleum or wood. It is a little slippery and once in a while my legs go out from under me. So foster Mama keeps a small rug nearby to place in front of me if that happens. Then I can get a grip and get up easily. Now, if I can live the luxurious life in a carpeted home, I will have no problems! I get attached pretty quickly. I love to be where you are, or at least be able to see you wherever you are. I am also kind of a lone wolf . I am OK with other dogs (I just ignore them), or I would be OK as an only dog. I am Ok with cats too. I ignore them and they ignore me! I can also be a drama queen at times. I love my people, and I love my green blanket. It is mine, mine, mine! So, if everyone respects that, we will get along just fine! I sleep very deeply, so I can startle easily. I would probably do best with older kids. I am about 10 years old, spayed, and totally housetrained (I will go to the door and let you know with a little chirp that I need to be let out). I still have some play in me. I love to nibble and gnaw on your hands. Mostly, at my age though, I just like to lounge around. I am as low maintenance as they come! If I can, I like to lean against your legs or lay partially on your feet. You see, I just cannot get close enough to you! I will need to continue my diet, and several short walks a day would help me get stronger. I currently weigh 35 pounds and need to get to 30 pounds for optimum health. I sure hope I can become your best love bug ever! Lacey is fostered in Kansas City. Laceys adoption fee is $200.00. show less

I'm READY!! I was a little disoriented and confused since my owners brought me back to this rescue that they adopted me from . But I am better now and a very happy young lady who is ready for my forever home!! I am a 5 yr old friendly little beagle, just a bit plump, weighing in at 36 lbs. I would be better off with a family who has a bit older kids, preferably over 13 yrs old, since smaller kids make me nervous and I would prefer them not in my face. It took me a while to get used to my foster parents and their resident Beagle and settle in. I did not eat much. When it was time to go for a walk, I really resisted. The first walk was rough, the second walk went a little better. But now I am doing great and able to keep up with the humans and their pet. I love to take walks! I also really like to eat... but the humans are monitoring that and feeding me low-fat food. I am looking for a home to LOVE ME FUREVER. I know several commands and am totally housebroken. I love peanut butter and long walks... I get along well with other dogs, even though I don’t play much. My foster parents have little visitors called grandchildren who stay with them. I am so gentle and loving with them and we love to cuddle together. But I don't like when little kids get in my face, so it was decided that it would be best if therre were only older kids in the house. I sleep in my kennel at night and stay in there while my humans are at work and school. Even though I don’t like going into my kennel, I am fine once I get in there. I am so excited to meet my new family because I am now ready to love and be loved. Will you show me your love and be my FUREVER family? They call me Missy or little Missy, but I am not really little at 30 pounds and growing, although I am still young at only 6 months old. I am a hound mix and they say I am going to be a tall girl! I know that I will always be a perfect lap size. How do I know that? Well, I just love to cuddle and snuggle so I feel it in my heart that I will always fit perfectly in your lap. Now, do not get me wrong, I am more than just a cuddler, I am a player too. I love to run around and play with my foster fur-siblings (which includes the dog savvy cat). I love to play with my human friends as well. However, since I am still young, I can occasionally be a little mouthy so older humans might be better. I love to play with toys, especially ones that go squeak, chew on bones and treats are yummy too! Because I do still chew, you have to watch what you leave down at my level. I do not try to counter surf but if I can reach it, it is fair game. I do wonderful in a kennel and will only cry if I need to go potty or if you have been gone and I hear you coming home (then I just get so excited). I am almost 100 percent potty trained (I do still have a rare accident). I am working on some basic commands but sometimes it is really hard to sit still that long and boy do those treats smell good! Give me a break, I am still a puppy! I am up to date on my vaccinations, spayed, microchipped and heartworm negative. I am being fostered in the Kansas City area with an adoption fee of $250. My foster parents say they would keep me in a heartbeat but they know my perfect family is out there waiting for me. Are you my perfect family? show less

Can we be Best Friends? My name is Norman and I was rescued from North Carolina with my 2 brothers. They have since been adopted and I am waiting for my forever home and getting a bit impatient!! I am currently hanging out in Omaha NE at a boarding doggy daycare and while I am having a great time, I would love a home to call my own. I am a super handsome, 8 month old Beagle/Harrier Mix. Right now I weigh about 35lbs. and when I am full grown will fill out to about 45-50 lbs. I love playing with other dogs!! Because I am tall, the smaller dogs dont like me, but I love them!!. My favorite things are playing, chewing on bones, cuddling, giving kisses, and food! I am not food aggressive at all, I am a very good boy! The one thing I am not fond of is my kennel. I would rather just stay out of it with some things to play with while you are gone. Or if you are home quite a bit that would be great too! I have mastered going potty outside also. As I said earlier, I do really love food! I was found snatching a stick of butter off of the counter...OOPS! Counter surfing is fun!! If you are looking for your forever buddy, I am your guy!! I really do need about 2 weeks to settle into my new home though, as I get very anxious in new places until I settle in and feel comfortable. So you will just need to be patient with me. I will love you forever if you give me a chance!! I am current on my vacciantions, HW negative, neutered and micro chipped. My adoption fee is $225.00. show less

ISO a family that loves dogs, snuggling (on the couch and in bed), long walks on the beach (or anywhere really) and naps on soft dog beds. My name is Ruggar and I am a 5 yr old, 35 pound tri-color beagle and I have a hooked tail. The vet said it was a genetic deformity but it does not cause me any problems. I do well with kitties and other mellow dogs. I am not a big fan of puppies or other high energy dogs and do require a proper introduction. I am totally housebroken and will come in the doggie door at my foster home, but prefer to wait for concierge service to let me out. I do fine in the kennel during the day while my foster family is gone, but prefer to be out when they are home. I do like to sneak into bed at night and snuggle up. I love the human kids in my foster home, especially the 8 year old who lets me sleep with her. They have some other smaller pets, but I ignore them. My brother and I came into foster care when my parents could no longer care for us and it has been an adjustment, especially since my brother has since been adopted. I do sneeze quite a bit, but I have been checked over by the vet and given the all clear. What I enjoy the most is being with my people. I am very mild mannered and know some basic commands. I am neutered, up to date on shots, and microchipped. I am being fostered in Kansas City and my adoption fee is $225. If you match the description of the family I am looking for then please contact Basset and Beagle Rescue of the Heartland. I will love and cherish you forever! show less

Meet Trixie a truly special little beagle/lab/shepherd mix that is an absolute love. Despite coming into rescue from a terrible hoarding situation, living in unimaginable conditions, she has an amazingly sweet and gentle nature to her. Trixie’s about 9 years, about 35lbs, with soft fur and deep, soulful eyes. She will stare at you intently without judgement as you share your day with her. She keeps great secrets. In fact, she is the best secret keeper on the block, she hardly makes a peep. With each day, her trust in humans gets stronger and her funny personality shines. Trixie doesn’t require a kennel and is very trustable to have free roam of the house. She is perfectly content to curl up on cold, snowy or rainy days. She’s housebroken. Even though she doesn’t bark to tell you it’s bathroom time, she easily adapted to the schedule of the other dogs. She has the kind of personality that just seamlessly fits into your family’s life. It’s like she’s been with you from the start. She’s very gentle. A little smile on her face always appears when it is time to take her short walks. When she first arrived into rescue, you could see she was in pain from her hind legs. However, the daily regimen of pain medications has her THRIVING! Her gait will always be a bit wonky but it’s part of her charm. Some dogs jump onto the couch, Trixie climbs! Hi, It’s Trixie here! I know my foster mom started to tell you about me, but I got so excited about having my own family that I took over the typing. You see, initially, I tend to be a little shy and nervous around new situations and new people. Having a low key mature, furry brother or sister to show me that I have nothing to be afraid is helpful to me because I watch their clues and adapt quickly. I am hoping my furever family has a little patience and would like a little shadow. I like to stay as close as I can to my foster fur-sister and to my humans. I follow them from room to room. I’m so quiet when I follow them, they nicknamed me “the little ninja”. I also really love to snuggle, it is one of the things I do best. I love to be loved. I promise that I’ll let you pet me and cuddle me for hours. My whole heart would belong to just my furever family. If you are looking for a little companion that has a lot of love to share, then I could be your perfect match. She’s up to date on her vaccinations, currently undergoing heartworm treatment and is microchipped. She is currently being fostered in the Omaha area. show less

Hi all, my name is Vito and I am a mostly beagle mix approximately 6 years old. (My former family had my DNA tested just for fun and the results show 75% beagle, 15% carin terrier and 10% min pin...a very cute mix if I do say so myself). First I need to tell you why I had to leave my family. I loved my home with them but when they had a second baby, I just could not handle it and I started snapping at the babies. It is just too scary for me when very small humans get in my face and poke and pull at me. Foster mom says I am the sweetest, snuggliest little guy in the whole world but it would be best if I went to a home with bigger kids, 8 years old and up would be good. I am a little picky about other dogs. I do not like the ones that are larger than me! Since I had been with my family for about 5 years, I am feeling rather insecure and anxious right now and need some extra patience and time to adjust. Foster mom says I am really a people person and love everyone I meet so I will not have much trouble with new people, but what I do not like is being left alone, oh, and I am not a big fan of car rides. Other than that foster mom says I am outstanding as I never bother anything in the house, I am potty trained and sleep in my cave bed at night. I love walks and exploring new territory, naps and snuggling on the couch. Also I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE food and treats! I weigh about 26 pounds and I am up to date on shots and am generally a healthy beagle boy. So if you would like a slightly more mature, affectionate and snuggly guy, I could be the one for you. Vito is also neutered, HW negative and micro chipped. Vito is fostered in Omaha, NE. His adoption fee is $225.00. show less
