My name is Annabelle, and I'm a sweet little beagle.  I'm about 18 pounds and probably around 6 years old, but I don't really know when my birthday is. I'm just the best little cuddler. I'm still learning basic commands and I am practicing housetraining.  I LOVE to go for walks and take naps in the sunshine. My foster mom wants to say some stuff too. Hi all!  Annabelle has the true heart and personality of a beagle, with all the brains and cleverness that go with it.  She loves to look out the window and will do what she can to get there, even if it means pretending that she wants to sit in your lap when she really wants to use you as a step stool.  She's the current reigning champion of "The floor is lava" in our house. I put her bed on top of the crate (like a top bunk), and an old chair at the window so she can see out, and she keeps her eye on the neighborhood. Like every good beagle, Annabelle is very smart and HIGHLY food motivated and quickly figured out how to open the cabinet and unsnap the tub to the dog food.  She will also follow her nose rather than her person and will seek out all the weaknesses in your fence to go exploring. Annabelle is great on a harness and loves to go for walks and yell at the bunnies.   She's doing really well with housetraining, but sometimes doesn't give me a lot of warning. I think Annabelle might have been an outside dog in her former life. She will use the potty pad, though, and is slowly getting more consistent about going outside.  I crate her when I leave (mostly to keep her from opening the cabinets), which she handles pretty well.  We had a few jealous moments with one of my other dogs when she arrived, but now all three get along great.  I don't know how she is with cats. Annabelle truly is a doll, though.  She'll fall asleep with her head on my shoulder and loves to be cuddled.  So if you want a spunky little spitfire to keep you on your toes but also cuddle up and snore warmly in your ear, she's your girl!  Annabelle is up to date on shots, microchipped, spayed and on heartworm preventative.  She is fostered in Omaha and her adoption fee is $275. show less

I'm as pretty as a flower and as sweet as a bowl of ice cream!  I am a 65 lb chubby hound mix and I love people more than anything! I like to snuggle up close to you and roll around to get belly rubs.  I am good with other dogs with the proper introduction but I get a little anxious with small squeaky dogs.  Small dogs are okay but the squeaky ones scare me. I am also not fond of dogs that I do not know very well running up and getting in my face, but who would be, right? I have met a cat in my foster home and seem unfazed by her.  I am pretty good on a leash and love, love, love going on walks.  I sometimes pull a little but as soon as I do, I slow back down.  I am housebroken and will go to the door when I need to go out. If you are not paying attention and I really need to go, I will paw at you.  Right now, I get a little anxious in a kennel and have some separation anxiety. You see, I lived with a wonderful person who passed away and I ended up in a shelter with hard floors and a bunch of other crying and barking dogs.  I did not flourish there, instead I became a bit aggressive towards everything.  However, as soon as I was out of there, I showed my true self; the loving and sweet girl I really am.  One thing I need to work on is when I am on a walk, I tend to get really angry at other doggies that pass by me, and I do pull a bit too.  So if you can help me work on that I would love it!  I can be a talker and have a personality to match so I probably wouldn't do well in an apartment.  I know some basic commands (like sit) and am eager to learn more. I am approx 4-5 years old, up to date on all my shots, microchipped and free of heartworms.  Can you be my gardener and help me grow and flourish into a full-fledged Bluebell or maybe be the chocolate sauce to my ice cream?  I guarantee I can be everything you need!  I am being fostered in the Kansas City area but willing to travel as I love car rides too!  Adoption fee $250   show less

My name is Bradley and I am a 20 pound, super soft, beagle mix.  They tell me that I am about 3 years old.  I am a very special dog looking for a very special home!  Although I do not remember my life prior to coming to BBRH almost 2 years ago, I know I had a very tough life.  All I really remember is that I was and still am terrified of people. It takes me a long time and a lot of treats to warm up and men are the scariest people ever!  But let me tell you that once I do, I love with all of my heart.  I will protect you through thick and thin from all of those other scary people out there.  I will not leave your side. I will snuggle and cuddle with you in bed (I am an undercover sleeper), on the couch or in your chair while you are working.  If you don't want to cuddle, I will gladly sit by your feet on a comfy dog bed.  My foster mom says I am a really good boy for going potty outside and she does not put me in a kennel when she has to leave.  I am getting used to a kennel though.  Sometimes I will lay in one with the door open and my foster mom will feed me in one, she says it is to lessen my fear of it.  I do not think I need one but whatever!  I do not bark or cry when my foster mom is gone but as soon as I hear her coming home I cry with excitement!  I like other dogs so long as they stay away while I am sleeping.  I do have a tendency to snap in my sleep if one gets close enough to startle me.  I will however cuddle with another dog so long as they don't startle me but it is best just to keep them away while I sleep.  I like the older, lazy dogs the best because they don't move as fast but I do like to play with the younger ones.  I like to play and snuggle with the cat in my foster home too!  Since I have been in foster care, I had to have my hernia repaired and surgery on my neck.  The doctors do not know what happened to  cause my neck injury and I do not remember but they said it was very bad and surprised I could still walk. I am better now though! I do take some medicine for my anxiety but I may be able to lower it once I fully trust you and only take during stressful times.  Right now though, I take everyday because I am still terrified of my foster dad unless he is giving me treats!  I am also going through training to learn how to meet new people and get used to other people.  You might not believe it but I have been doing great... But baby steps... Most of the time I am okay in the car when I ride shotgun.  However, sometimes it makes me really anxious and I pant heavily.  Foster mom has not figured why sometimes I get that way and I am not sure how to tell her.  I am slowly learning to walk on a leash.  Sometimes I stop and jump up for you to carry me and other times I will do a little better and just stop to make sure you are there.  We do not go very far at a time (again, we take baby steps) so my foster mom says I would be best in a home with a fence.  If you have patience, like to take baby steps, be surprised and amazed at every new thing I do and want be loved unconditionally then I am the boy for you.  I am up to date on my shots and microchipped, although I am still heartworm positive.  I am doing a "slow-kill" treatment which just consists of taking my heartworm preventative every month but they say it could take up to 5 years for all of the heartwors to die.  I am about 2 years into my treatment but thankfully I am asymptomatic.  Please do consider loving me even with my issues.  I promise that I am worth the love! I am fostered in KC , MO and my adoption fee is $225.00 show less

Hi all!  My name is Buddy and I can't wait to meet you!  I know you will give me lots of pets and snuggles which I love and insist on having!  I am a 26 pound, 2 year old beagle with energy for days!  I can run and play and sniff for hours at a time.  I would love to have another dog friend although I don't require it if you have the time and stamina to keep up with me.  I would also love to have a big fenced  yard to run around in.  I am learning about a leash and walks but I do not have the hang of it yet.  It's such a big world with lots of great smells that I want to explore it all!  I like to chase little critters so I would do best in a house without cats.  My foster mom was impressed at how quickly I learned not to potty in the house and I even learned how to use the doggy door.  Let me tell you, when I first figured out the doggy door, I was amazed that I could go in and out, so that's what I did... In, out, in, out, over and over!  What a great concept!  I am working on kennel training and will go in (but still kind of timidly) with food and treats.  I will sleep in it all night, but if people are up and moving around, I do not want to be in there and will let you know!    As I mentioned, I love attention but I have not figured out my manners yet and I will jump up on you for love.  I love people of all ages but would probably not be best with young kids as I am kind of crazy for attention.  Speaking of crazy, I am also crazy for food!  When I know it is time to eat, I start to go a little nuts.  I love, love, love food.  I am still learning that my foster mom is going to feed me!  I am so afraid that I am not going to get to eat again, which my foster mom thinks has happened in my past life do to how thin I was when I came to her.  Don't get me wrong, I can relax and be calm, I just need to get out my extra energy too.  I am up to date my shots and healthy as a horse.  I am also scheduled be get neutered and microchipped at the end of July and will then be ready for my forever home.  If you think you could love me like I deserve and I do deserve a lot of it, reach out and let's meet up.  I am being fostered in the Kansas City area but I could travel for the perfect family!  One more thing, my adoption fee is $275 but I am well worth it, if I do say so myself! show less

i know...  you probably see a bit of fear in my eyes... I need to be able to trust my surroundings, and you so I will be a bit unsure for awhile.  I will need extra time and patience to settle in.  The outside is a big place and its kind of scary for me.  Loud noises and big trucks scare me, but if those arent around me I'm great!  So my foster mom works around this and we go out at off times to avoid this.  Echo is approximately 2 years old, 35 lbs and a coonhound fox hound mix.  He is a petite and a little skinny so could use a few more pounds on him.  Luckily, like all hounds he is food motivated.   Important facts about Echo: 1. Echo is doing great on potty training!  He will potty on a leash but does not alert me all the time that he needs to go out.  Would do great with a fenced yard! 2. He is resistant to go into the kennel on his own without treat motivation but will settle down.  3. Echo did test positive for heartworms. He has undergone treatment and is finished up, and will require a hw pill each month, just like every other dog! 4. Echo is a very sweet dog with people.  He is loving and gentle, and ready to play with everyone who comes near.  He is good with other dogs.   5. Echo is a bit mischievous.  He likes to get into the trash and counter surf. He requires a choice of chew toys (he told me to say that) 6. Echo is curious and a bit of a busy body (he told me not to say that) who wants to be involved in everything you are doing. He wants to sniff and lick and chew everything you have and interact with you. He likes having his face and muzzle rubbed and getting pets. He’s a gentle lump of a dog! 7. Echo has not been exposed to kids but is curious about them. 8. Echo was on his own for a bit, so he has some behaviors that are consistent with a less than ideal environment. He needs to feel safe and know that he will never be hungry again.   He may growl and bark at another dog while eating.  We suggest separating when special treats are involved and dinner time and never feed off the table. He also gets startled while he’s sleeping. Just a bark but still, he gets frightened. 9. Echo has not been around cats. 10. Echo is neutered, microchipped and up to date on shots. 11. His adoption fee is $225 12. He is fostered in Omaha. If you would like your own curious, loveable, handsome doggo please apply for ECHO… echo…. echo… (had to do it). show less

Good things come to those who wait.  Well, I have been waiting patiently and I am ready for my forever family!! I am a 1 year old lab mix and am a lanky about 50 lbs . I am tall and lanky . I am a bit picky about who I like to play with. Some doggies scare me. I am learning how to be a confident doggie and not scared of other dogs or new situations.  Those seem to scare me the most. I guess it's because I'm younger and when I was a baby new things frightened me. Because of this, it has been determined that I would do best as an only doggie. I'm learning to handle new dog friends and I am getting better, but will really need extra time to adjust to my new surroundings. One thing I do love is playing with kids!! I am seeking an active family with kids so I can love on them all the time! Except little ones. I might accidently mow them down with my exuberance so I might be better with older kids. I love to run, chase, go on walks, and chew on toys, I must have chew toys! One thing I don't like is outdoor cats. Indoor cats are fine. I am hoping for my very own family soon. I am growing up in my foster home. Are you looking for a doggie who will love you forever? Are you willing to give me a bit of extra time to adjust and settle in? Just FYI, I have mastered potty training, sit, down, stand and off! I am learning ‘leave it’ and ‘watch me’. I am attending behavior classes to help me be confident. I am fostered in Omaha, and due to life situations, will ONLY be adopted out to a new family in OMAHA. Gabe is up to date on shots, heartworm negative, neutered, microchipped and ready for the best home!         show less

Who you calling Pig?  I lost 8 lbs!  How many did you lose during quarantine?  Yea, I thought so.  My name is Peppa (a.k.a Peppy, Pep Pep or wiggle butt) and I am a beagle/basset mix, approximately three years young and weigh 30 pounds. When I first arrived at my foster home it was winter and as a Southern girl I have never saw snow before so I am happy it is warming up now.  Upon arrival I made four new dog friends and my favorite is Ruby the beagle because she is the same as me, leisurely and kind.  I live with big humans that are empty nesters so I haven’t had much interaction with small humans.  However, when I was picked up as a stray I was meandering into a school with the kids so they must not scare me.  My interests include securing the yard, even though it’s fenced in someone needs to be on watch, belly rubs, treats, cuddling with my dog friends and hiding in obscure places.  I do like to go on leisurely walks but since I just finished heartworm treatment I do not get to go for long periods of time.  I usually tag along up the street to check the mail.  I rarely have accidents in house but being on prednisone my family needs to pay close attention so they know when I am waiting by the door to be let out.  I do not bark much. I love food and think my friends want to share but I do not like it if they want mine.  Because of this I am fed in a separate room or kennel when it is ‘dinner’ time or when I have a rawhide. I know sit and come when I am called if I can see and hear you.  Sometimes my big ears cover my listening ears but I am far better at it than my friends.  I kennel nicely when my family leaves but prefer to be with or near you when it is bedtime.  If you would like to meet me please fill out an application on our website, www.bassetandbeagle.org and put my name Peppa.  I look forward to meeting you.  Peppa is fostered in Omaha, up to date on shots, microchipped, spayed and current on heartworm. show less

UPDATED!!!!!   Don’t let my flowing locks fool you, I’m part beagle.  Hi, my name is Scooby.  I am an 11-year old male Beagle mix living the good life in Omaha.  I weigh about 26 pounds.  I am housebroken, kennel-trained – if you offer a treat, I will run in the kennel - and I get along great with cats and dogs.  But. . . while I like other dogs, I prefer dogs that do not try to play with me and leave me alone when I’m eating.  There are a few things I would like you to know about me before you read any further.  First, I am diabetic.  I get shots twice a day – 10-12 hours apart.  I get them with my meals.  I do not mind my shots – I am very used to them.  I am a stable, diabetic dog – as long as I get my shots on schedule. Don't be scared of giving shots.  The needles are tiny and I love all the attention I get after my shot 'cause I am a good boy. I get super excited when the leash comes out – I love to go for walks!  I am great on a leash and I completely ignore other dogs.  My foster mom says I’m the best walker she has ever had.  I just do not understand why sometimes she says we are done when I could walk forever. I love car rides too.  I will go for a ride any time.  I love to ride in the back seat and look at everything that goes by the window.  At home, I like to be wherever my foster mom is.  If she is working, I like to nap either right behind or near her chair.  I also like to lay on the couch beside her when she is watching TV.  At night, I put my paws on the side of the bed and she lifts me up so I can snuggle in sleep close by.  I like to be near my people. My foster mom tells me I am one of the best dogs she has ever met. I am current on all of my vaccinations, heartworm preventative and flea/tick treatments.  I am also microchipped and neutered (obviously!) show less

Hey! My name is Rhea! I used to have a home with teenage kids to play with and all the food that I wanted! I thought things were going so well, but I kept getting into fights with the cats. We just could not get along. So now I’m looking for a new home! I’ve had a hard time with that, though... This quarantine business has been crazy, right? Well, while I’ve been waiting, I’ve been working on my girlish figure. I’ve probably lost over 10 pounds in the two months I’ve been in foster care (don’t worry, those pounds needed to go, TRUST me). I have a foster brother, but I would really like being an only fur-baby. I am getting better at sharing my foster mom’s affection, but I definitely wish I had her all to myself. I do have some trust issues... probably because I lost my family that I had known since I was a pup, but I warm up to strangers super fast! Just give me some pets and a treat and I’m all yours! Even though I am a beagle-mix, I have more of a bull-dog body. So I am pretty strong. I tend to do well on walks, but if I see a person or dog, I completely forget my manners and need someone who can hold me back and remind me to be nice until I get better. I do need daily walks so I can keep getting down to a healthy weight. Don’t worry, I’ll let you know if I need to roll around in the grass and rest for a minute, but then I’ll be back up and ready to roll! I’ve learned that I can run and sniff so much better without those extra pounds! I also LOVE to lick and take car rides. I am the snuggliest girl you will ever meet! Wanna give this 6-year-old hunk of love a chance?   Rhea is up to date on all vaccinations, HW neg, spayed, and $225 is her adoption fee. show less
