DaVito is a young basset mix  (2-3 years old)who came to us from North Carolina.  We don't know much about his history except that it was not a safe place. He has torn cartilage in one ear and a BB lodged in the other that doesn't bother him. He does not appear to hold any grudges and loves people of all ages.  He has been said to be dog selective in that he does not do well with other dogs that get in his face, but he has gotten along well with foster siblings including other dogs, a cat, birds and a bearded dragon. He loves to play, but can be a little rough with his doggy playmates due to his age and high energy level.  DaVito is working on walking nicely on a leash, but can pull because he is just so excited to be out walking with you.  He can get a little excited or scared and leave a little piddle on the floor, but he is working so hard on it and is otherwise housebroken.  He mastered the dog door in a matter of hours and loves being able to go outside and run.  He knows sit, down, roll over and shake, kennels on command and is super smart and ready to learn more.  He has been trained without treats as he is so food motivated it became a distraction and uses a slow feeder bowl. His favorite things include car rides, plush toys with squeakers and spending time with his humans.  He would love to snuggle on the couch if you would allow him to.  DaVito is fully vaccinated, micro chipped, heartworm negative, neutered and ready for his new home.   Davito is fostered in KC, MO.  His adoption fee is $225.00 show less

The eyes are the window to the soul we have  been told.  This boys soul is one of the sweetest.  Dexter is a 10 year old Beagle who found himself coming into rescue from a previous owner who did not have time for him and his issue anymore. This loving boy is house broken and will cue to be let outside. He does not need crated and prefers not to be.  He loves children and does great with other dogs too! (Cats unknown). Dexter LOVES food, so much that he is willing to jump on a chair to help himself to your left overs!   His dog food and other human food does need to be safely kept out of reach or locked so that he does not find himself in a feast and end up at the vet again!! Poor Dexter does suffer from chronic severe allergies, so he needs a patient owner that is willing to provide consistent medication and occasional baths.  He has been receiving this attention and is much more comfortable than when we first got him. He would do best in a home where someone is present most of the time, as he suffers from severe separation anxiety. He is what we consider 'speechless' for a hound dog until you leave the house. He does not show destructive behavior but will howl, cry, bark, and excessively pace when you leave him.   While you are home you can find him curled up in a blanket, taking a snooze!  He is an extremely sweet and gentle boy who wants a loving home with a person to cuddle up next to for his retirement. Are you that person?     **The vet said he will probably be allergy ridden and on meds for life. Some may need to be switched in the future .  Dexter averages about $80 of meds every 15 days.... plus he is on prescription shampoo and foam but that lasts awhile. As part of Dexters adoption his foster mom, who is a groomer, will offer Dexter’s new owners an extremely heavily discounted grooming fee if they want to bring him for baths. (It would include bath, nails, and ear cleaning). ****   Dexter is current on vaccinations, HW negative, neutered, and micro chipped.  His adoption fee is $125.00.  Dexter is fostered in Omaha, NE. show less

Package deal here...double your pleasure, double the fun!!!   Hi, we are Emily and Martie, 5 year old 30lb. twin beagles and are the bestest sisters you will ever find!!   Always together and never alone. My foster mommy says we are very bonded and we have best of both worlds in personalities. Emily is very much the mother hen and the most lovable. I do sometimes have bad dreams where I wake up crying but that’s just because I sometimes forget where I am and my sister gets to far. I love my morning cuddles and love kisses from everyone. I’m really laid back and not in a hurry to do much. Martie is very much the comedian of the group and always has us laughing. When sister Emily cries I’m quick to respond to make sure she’s ok and that she knows I’m still here. I love cuddles and kisses but also love to roam around but not too far away from Emily.   We also have a problem with counter surfing and are working very hard on that. You’re in luck because we have such little legs we can never grab anything but make mommy laugh because we end up falling all over the place...not very gracefully in that department. We are 100% potty trained and learned the doggy door with in seconds of being in our foster home. If you have time to cuddle and have a couch for us we are ready to move in.   The girls are current on vaccinations, HW negative, spayed and micro chipped.  They are fostered in Omaha, NE.  Their adoption fee is $300.00 show less

Right said 'Fred' checking in to let everyone know I am healthy and ready to take my turn on the catwalk but before I start shaking my touche I want to let you in on a few fun facts about me. I am approximately two years old, fifty pounds and maybe a Basset mixed with a whole lot of handsome.  Need I say more?! Well if you insist. My foster parents think I still act like a big puppy because I have  lot of fun energy and love to play with all my doggie friends.  My favorite friend is Buddy the other basset mix we have available for adoption through BBRH.   We love each other and play all the time together!  Some very important things to know about me are:  I am potty trained, I am good with people, kids and dogs, I am kennel trained, not food aggressive, good on a leash but sometimes pull, quiet inside the house, LOVE my stuffed toy and will throw them in the air and entertain myself, LOVE to cuddle, will sleep on floor next to your bed, but if you want me to sleep in bed with you I will, and sometimes i bark outside because I have things to say.  Well I gotta run the catwalk is calling. If you have the jingle in your head now and you would like to meet me head over to bassetandbeagle.org and fill out an application. Don't forget to put my name Right said 'Fred' down.   Fred is current on vaccinations, HW negative, neutered, and micro chipped.  He is fostered in Omaha, NE.  His  adoption fee is $225.00. show less

Are you looking for a great, low key, chill companion?  Im your girl!!  My favorite thing to do is relax.  I am super friendly with everyone.  My Foster Mama calls me Lacey Love, Lovey Lace, Love Bug, and Love.  I am a beautiful, sweet, curvy girl, on my way to a spread in Womens Day magazine to show off my new figure! I have lost 1/6 of my body weight, and I have only 4-5 pounds left to go! You see, my previous owner was not able to take good care of me, I was fed constantly, and also had a previous hip injury that needed surgery.  BBRH provided FHO surgery (femoral head osteotomy), a fancy way of saying the bone and hip were so damaged and degenerated that they had to cut out the top half of my femoral bone.  So, I am still gaining strength and confidence back.  I can walk and wobble around (better when food is involved), but am still unsure with steps (I regularly do 2-3 steps to go inside and out, with patience, encouragement and praise).  I am not yet confident enough to do a staircase.  I also struggle with hard surfaces like linoleum or wood. It is a little slippery and once in a while my legs go out from under me.  So foster Mama keeps a small rug nearby to place in front of me if that happens.  Then I can get a grip and get up easily.  Now, if I can live the luxurious life in a carpeted home, I will have no problems! I get attached pretty quickly. I love to be where you are, or at least be able to see you wherever you are.  I am also kind of a lone wolf .  I am OK with other dogs (I just ignore them), or I would be OK as an only dog. I am Ok with cats too.  I ignore them and they ignore me! I can also be a drama queen at times.  I love my people, and I love my green blanket.  It is mine, mine, mine!  So, if everyone respects that, we will get along just fine!  I sleep very deeply, so I can startle easily.  I would probably do best with older kids. I am about 10 years old, spayed, and totally housetrained (I will go to the door and let you know with a little chirp that I need to be let out). I still have some play in me.  I love to nibble and gnaw on your hands.  Mostly, at my age though, I just like to lounge around.  I am as low maintenance as they come! If I can, I like to lean against your legs or lay partially on your feet.  You see, I just cannot get close enough to you!  I will need to continue my diet, and several short walks a day would help me get stronger.  I currently weigh 35 pounds and need to get to 30 pounds for optimum health.  I sure hope I can become your best love bug ever!  Lacey is fostered in Kansas City.  Laceys adoption fee is $200.00. show less

Harooh everyone! My name is Misty and I might be the biggest love bug you have ever met!  I am a blue tick coonhound searching for my soul family. I weigh 65 pounds, but all of that weight is full of love.  I am completely house broken and although I'm big, I don't jump on counters or tables! That is amazing if you ask me.  I know some basic tricks (like sit) but I am a little rusty. I once had a loving family that were teaching me all kinds of new things and had big plans for me!  I am very smart and was really enjoying my training. When they found out they could not keep me, they gave me to a family member who decided to just stick me in an outdoor pen.  Oddly enough, while stuck outside, I became pregnant and then they decided I could not stay there either so after having my babies, I was off to BBRH. I am now being fostered in Kansas City and get to live back inside.  Needless to say, I love it! I am just starting to get the feel of going on walks again so I can be a little pully. I also like to talk and let you know how I am feeling. If you have a rough day, I will let you know that all will be okay.  FYI, I am not a fan of the big scary cows by my foster home! I am between 2 and 3 years old, good with other dogs and cats, up to date on shots, spayed and heartworm negative. There is not much about me to not love… maybe you're sitting there thinking, wow she sounds great but so big.  I am really the perfect size! I know, I may not be able to sit in your lap comfortably, but think of all the back pain I will save you from always bending over to pet another dog. Just reach your hand out and pet, no bending, no squating. See, that makes me perfect in my eyes! If you are looking for a girl to love and want to save yourself future back pain, I am for you.  Please contact Basset and Beagle Rescue of the Heartland to fill out an application! show less

Hi, my name is Stella, and foster mom says I’m going to make the perfect companion dog. I am 2 years old, weigh around 40lbs. and I am a Lab Mix!!   I love to lay around next to you and get lots of snuggles. I enjoy having toys around to chew on or snuggle with. Aside from on the couch next to you my other favorite spot is my doggie bed on the floor. I’m pretty quiet, laid back, and very low maintenance. I get along great with people and kids.. Once I decide who my person is, I enjoy following them around. I am potty trained, kennel trained, and can be trusted to be left alone out of the kennel however I sometimes chew on things that look like my dog toys (ask my human brother about his stuffed Minion Slippers - may they rest in peace). I love being petted and will tap you with my paw if I want or need something. I follow directions really well as I am a people pleaser. I will need some practice walking on a leash, but I think I’m a master at the “stay” command. I enjoy romping around in the backyard, and hunting for rabbits! I am very unsure and timid with unfamiliar things and situations, and because of this I may require time and patience to build trust. Foster mom reminds me all the time that I am the happiest, sweetest foster dog, her exact words, "one of the best!" Some things I don't enjoy are storms and going outside in the rain. When it storms I typically pant, pace around the house and want to be petted and snuggled.   Some things to note about Stella:   She is currently heart worm positive and undergoing treatment for it, therefore her personality may change some once she is healthy.   While she is okay with being around other dogs, she can get jealous for your attention and tend to show her teeth or growl at the other dogs if they come up to you while you are petting her however she has not posed a major threat towards my two resident dogs.   When she does go in the kennel, you'll have to get her attention, toss the treat towards the very back of the kennel, then kind of backed off slightly and she will go in, at which time you can walk behind her and shut the doors. If you're standing right at the kennel doors waiting for her to go in, she will not go although we will continue to work on it.   Stella is current on vaccinations, spayed and micro chipped.  She is fostered in Council Bluffs, IA.  Her adoption fee is $225.00 show less

My sister and I found ourselves being sold in a parking lot it MO and a nice person bought us so we wouldn’t end up in the wrong hands, then reached out to BBRH to ask if they could take us into rescue to find us wonderful forever homes.   BBRH has some awesome volunteers and we are now in a foster home in Omaha NE.  We are really sweet, adorable, small pups.  My name is Sydney (9 weeks old) and I am very outgoing, a bit scared at first, but warm up within minutes of being around you.  I love to be held and snuggled.    So far I have been around small kids and other dogs big and small, and I love everyone.  I have a docked tail, so may have some aussie in my blood.  I am about 5 lbs and Im not expected to get very big, probably around 20 lbs when full grown.  My sister and I sleep in a puppy pen at night, and we’ve also been in a kennel and do just fine.  My new forever home will have to teach me to do all kinds of great things like potty training, walking on a leash, listening to commands, and I think I would be great with some agility training!  My adoption fee is $300 .  I am up to date on the shots I need , but will need more as I get older.  I am chipped, spayed and ready for my new family on October 25th.  Can you handle all of my cutness!!?? show less

Trina - Labrador Retriever Mix I am about 12 weeks old and a mixed breed puppy.  I am  very energetic and love to run and play.  I do very good on or off the leash and will make a great companion that will stay by your side with some training.  I love to play fletch and have almost got the drop it or give command down.  I know sit, shake, and kennel up (especially if treats are involved).  I’m your typical rambunctious pup that just keeps on going.  I really like people and love to get in lots of snuggles and kisses.  I love squeaky toys and enjoy playing and wrestling with other dogs.  I have not been exposed to cats yet.  I will need someone with patience that’s willing to work with me on my basic commands and potty training as I am not fully potty trained yet.  You will need to teach me where to go and how to ask until I get the hang of it.  I kennel at night and when my foster family is away.  If you are looking for a puppy that will need LOTS of attention and patience I may be what you are looking for.  I will need toys to keep me occupied, maybe a playmate and of course lots of snuggles and kisses from you. My estimated birthday is end of April first part of May and I am ready to move into my new home anytime.  I am spayed, microchipped, dewormed and have received all my puppy shots along with rabies.  My adoption fee is $250.  Apply for me if you are ready for a forever doggie, not an until something happens in your life doggie!  FOSTERED IN OMAHA NE. show less

Walter Frederick Tigger III here but you can just call me Walter.  I’m looking for a place to retire and spend the rest of my life being loved and loving you.  Is that your place?  Do you have an empty lap I can snuggle up in?  A bed that I can curl up next to you and sleep the night away in?  If so, let’s talk.   I’m a handsome, regal beagle who is about 8 years young.  I was heartworm positive when I came to live with my foster mama and her fur babies but have completed heartworm treatment so I’m ready to go.  I do have congestive heart failure as a result of the nasty heartworms but am doing really well they tell me; sometimes it makes me have a cough especially if I get super excited.  I take Enalapril and Lasix everyday (and doggy cough syrup if I need it) – foster mama puts it in some soft food and I gobble it up.  They aren’t very expensive so I wouldn’t be much of an expense that way.  I get along with dogs (I live with 2 beagles, a bagel, a shepherd beagle, and a doxie basset) and kids.  I don’t know about kitties because I’ve never been around them that I know of.  I sure do like to chase squirrels though so a fenced yard would be best.  I walk pretty good on leash when I’m in a harness which they tell me is safest.  Did I tell you that I really like people?  I like to give hugs and kisses – that’s a must for me. I’m housebroken and will use a potty pad if you’re gone for a while.  I stayed in a kennel at animal control before I came to BBRH but it’s not my favorite thing.  I free roam with my foster brothers and sisters.  Mama says that I am super good and let her cut my nails which she says makes me a real catch.  I take treats really nice foster – and I love treats by the way.  I am current on vaccinations, taking heartworm prevention,  neutered and microchipped.   Won’t you please consider making me part of your family?  Please?   Walter is fostered in KC, MO.  His adoption fee is $225.00 show less

Hi friends! We are Zuko (beagle/terrier, 11 y, 32 lbs) and Sauskee (beagle/corgi, 10 y, 38 lbs.). Our foster mom says that we are the best boy duo since Batman and Robin. That’s right... we are a package deal! We’ve been brothers our whole lives. Zuko is the sweet and Sauskee is the sass. We get along with our foster dog siblings, but have not been child or cat tested.   Please don’t let the ages fool you. We love to run around the yard and if you’ve got toys or a ball?? Ooooh boy! Sauskee loves to chase squeaky toys. Chewing on bones is a hobby of ours. It’d be great if you’ve got some around for us. Snuggling is also a recreational sport for us, so hope you have a lap open. Another thing we love to do is go on walks. All the sniffs and we can work on our stud muffin status?? If we could put the harnesses on ourselves, we would!   Since we are mature, you don’t have to go through all that stuff you do with puppies. We already know it all! Pleasing our people is our mission, so we always try to do what you say. We know how to potty outside and tell you when we need to. We also do well in a kennel, but there might be some calling out for you for a few minutes after you leave. It’s just because you’re missed! Our foster mom has even left us out when she’s gone for a few hours and we’ve behaved like good boys.   We don’t let our age slow us down, so it shouldn’t slow you down from clicking that ‘Adopt’ button!   Zuko and Sauskee  are current on vaccinations, HW negative, neutered and micro chipped.  They are fostered here in Omaha, NE.  Their adoption fee is $275.00 show less
