Holy Faza, this guy is "красивый"!! If you know what that last word is, take it as a sign you should drive to the shelter right now and adopt Faza. ;-) And even if you don't know what it means, you should still consider adopting this awesome guy! Faza is a 10 year old German Shepherd that speaks... Russian! Faza's former owners said he "knows a lot of training in Russian," but they didn't mention which words he knows. So of course we googled the usual suspects like "sit" and "paw" and tried them out. YES, Faza definitely knows "sit" and "paw," although I'm not sure it had anything to do with our undoubtedly awful pronunciation of these words, so much as Faza recognizing the hand signals. STILL- if you want to impress your friends with your "Russian," I say go for it! ;-) We sure had fun pretending like we spoke Russian, and Faza sure had fun getting tons of treats out of us lol. Faza is a SMART dude. He is super focused on the treat and I have no doubt he can pick up commands/tricks in any language! Faza is a well behaved boy who is friendly with new people and very calm & polite. He was surrendered to the shelter for "no time". His former owners said he did well with children, ages infant to three years. He also did well with the Chihuahua in the home, but doesn't so much like dogs around his own size (his dog eval reflected this as well). If you have a smaller dog at home already, bring them in and we can help everyone meet! Faza is красивый, умный and дружелюбный! What more could you ask for?! (A Russian to English dictionary for starters). ;-) Google those words, then come on down to the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx and принять FAZA! << I'll give you this one- it says "Adopt Faza". :-D The shelter is open 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Faza's $25 adoption fee includes neuter, rabies certificate and County license. show less

CAT PEOPLE!! MEOW MEOW MEEEEOW meow.meow! That means "Listen up please! This cat needs you!" (You didn't know I spoke cat, did you?) ;-P Okay, okay, I may not be as fluent in cat as I would like to have you believe... but I CAN pick up on some social cues that say a cat is unhappy. Such as hissing. And swatting. And glaring at you like you just threw all the catnip out the window. So without further ado... Meet Gizmo! 😂 Look, I'm not going to sugar-coat it. This guy is not happy. And he has every right to not be happy. Gizmo's owner surrendered him to the shelter when they moved, and Gizmo has had a very hard time adjusting. Staff and volunteers have been working quite a bit with Gizmo and he HAS made progress. To start, this picture proves a lot. In previous weeks, Gizmo refused to move from his box in one of the (open) kennels. He just sat there petrified, with his eyes huge. This week, Gizmo was looking much more relaxed and had found a new spot by the window! AND, a staff member even pet Gonzo the other day! Now all this paints a picture of a pretty unhappy cat, right? So imagine my surprise when I read Gizmo's owner surrender notes: "OWNER STATED CAT WAS GOOD AROUND HIS JACK RUSSEL TERRIER BUT THE JRT DID NOT CARE FOR THE CAT. GREAT WITH CHILDREN, NEVER SCRATCHED. OWNER IS MOVING OUT OF STATE AND CANNOT TAKE CAT W HIM." Well. That's quite a difference, isn't it? Clearly, Gizmo has had his heart broken and needs to learn to trust again. You know that old Toni Braxton song... "Unbreak my heart! Say you love me agaaaaain! Undo this hurt you caused when you walked out the door and walked out of my life... Unbreak my heeeaaaart!" Excuse me. Sometimes I get carried away. But yeah, that's basically what Gizmo needs; someone to unbreak his heart. Is that special person you? I definitely think Gizmo can learn to love again, but I can't promise you he won't glare at you any time you karaoke "Unbreak my Heart" to him. ;-) You can visit 2 yr old Gizmo at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Gizmo's adoption fee includes 3 in 1 vaccination and neuter surgery. Gizmo is in a cat suite with a few other cats and doesn't seem to mind them at all; he could potentially do well with your cat at home too. show less

Are you looking for a big ol' smushy, cuddly dog?! Look no further- meet Glenda! This big beauty is allll about the hugs and cuddles. Running around the yard and chasing toys? Glenda says meh. Sitting on the couch with her favorite human and snacks?! Yes, please! If "slow down" is more YOUR speed, you and Glenda will be BFFs! Glenda is overall a mellow and gentle lady who just wants to hang out. She knows "sit" already for a treat and is up for learning more... she definitely likes treats lol. ;-) Glenda has been hanging out in one of the shelter offices and does great! She is friendly and loves to greet each new person that walks by or comes in the office. She loves lounging around on soft beds and chewing a bone, or a plush toy. Glenda has done really great with potty training too, with regular potty breaks outside. Glenda didn't do so hot with her dog eval and the shelter recommends she be the only pet at this time. Her notes indicate that she was overexcited and really didn't have any social skills with the other dogs. Glenda is not a fan of those feline creatures either! If you're a one-pet kinda household, 90 pound Glenda will truly be ALL you need! <3 You can visit 4 year old Glenda at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Glenda's $25 adoption fee includes spay, rabies certificate and County license. show less

MEET KRONK! Yes, that needs to be all caps because Kronk likes to get KRUNK! This guy has a lot of energy and is starting to struggle in the shelter environment after two months. :-/ Kronk looks to me to be a Boxer/Belgian Malinois combo, so it's no wonder he has a lot of energy to burn! Underneath all that energy though, is a sweet, sweet dude. Kronk loves to cuddle up with his friends and will lean into you for pets and love. When he's not getting a back scratchy, Kronk is on the go! He love to do zoomies around the yard and loves to go on walks and explore. He knows some basic commands, "sit" and "down" and is treat motivated. Kronk would LOVE to learn more in his forever home! Kronk is the type of dog that will thrive with training and activity. With a little extra work, he is going to be one sharp, smart, super-cool dog (because he's already almost there!). Kronk is THE perfect dog for an active person who is willing to devote time and energy to training their dog. I've no doubt he is going to amaze you with all he can learn! Kronk was "overbearing" during his dog eval, but took corrections well from the human handlers. Please bring your dog in for an intro and we can help make sure everyone is a match prior to adopting. You can visit 6 year old Kronk (don't worry about that age- he has the energy of a 1 year old dog!) at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Kronk's $25 adoption fee includes neuter, rabies certificate and County license. show less

Yes folks, Lady Bird is holding hands with one of her favorite staff members in this pic! All together now- AWWWWW!! <3 Lady Bird is just that kinda lady... she loves to cuddle! Lady Bird is very friendly and affectionate with everyone she meets. There is no place she would rather be than draped all over your lap getting lots of love and pets. Lady Bird is sure she's a lap dog; size 'aint nothin' but a number, she says! Lady Bird is quite a large bird around 80/90 pounds (I think she has some Mastiff in her!). Lady Bird is a calm gal who enjoys going on walks and sniffing around in the sunshine. At eight years old, toys aren't so much her thing anymore. Treats though- treats will always be her thing! Lady Bird doesn't know any tricks that we can tell, but she told us if it gets her more treats, she's willing to learn that "sit" thing the humans keep talking about. ;-) Lady Bird did well overall with her dog eval and prefers other calm/polite dogs. She really doesn't appreciate "in your face" kinda dogs, and will tell them just what she thinks of them lol. Lady Bird would do best with another large dog who is mellow like she is. No small dogs or cats. Bring your dog from home in for an intro! You can visit 8 year old Lady Bird at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Lady Bird's $25 adoption fee includes rabies certificate and County license. Lady Bird is spayed already and ready to go home today! show less

This smuuuuushy little face and those pouty little lips make me want to faint!! Meet Precious! Precious is a heart-breaker for me. She is so sad and scared at the shelter. She came in as a stray and was pepper sprayed by PD, but I can't find anything in her notes that indicate WHY. Precious is so afraid at the shelter and I think she doesn't get out much, because she takes a little time to warm up to new people. Precious does love treats though, so with the help of some treats and a little patience, we were on our way to the yard. Precious is just flat-out scared of everything. She flinched when the other dogs bark, and walked around the yard with her tail tucked. It's so hard on these shy dogs to be surrounding by so much noise and stimulation 24/7. Precious did allow all handling though, and let me pet her all over. She is a very mellow gal who just seems lost and confused as to why she is at the shelter. :-( We took a break inside and Precious flopped right down with a chew bone and calmly ate her treat while I did some computer work. I have NO doubt that Precious will warm up in a home setting. We see these types of dogs all the time- all Precious needs is a calmer environment, patience and love, and she will blossom. <3 Precious did well overall with her dog eval. She was timid, but appropriate with the other dogs. If you have a dog at home already, bring them in and we can help everyone meet. You can visit 8 year old Precious at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. I generally let the dogs tell me what they want to do when I take them out. Some dogs like chill time with a chew bone, some like a game of fetch, some like the play pool.... and some, like Reba, just want to sleep. Those ones always get me right in the feels because all these dogs want is a little peace and quiet after the constant noise out in the kennels. Shy-baby Reba has been at the shelter since June. I can't imagine two months of listening to all that noise 24/7. Like I said, Reba is a shy-baby. She starts off hesitant, but will keep going with encouragement. As soon as we walked in the photo room, Reba plopped down on the blanket. Apparently where the blankie goes, Reba goes, because I put it on the photo canvas and she followed it over and took a snooze (with a brief picture interruption lol). Guys- how stinkin' heart-meltingly cute is a dog with a security blanket?! I'm telling you, this girl was breaking my heart! <3 Reba enjoyed gentle pets and was very mellow during our time together. Honestly, she just snoozed away and seemed so grateful for the quiet and air conditioning. I hated to take Reba back (I brought the blankie too!) and I promised her I would do my best to help her find a forever home where she can take all the quiet naps she wants. If you're looking for a gentle and mellow dog, and have a heart for the shy ones- please come meet Reba! Reba has not yet had a dog eval, so please bring your dog in for an intro. You can visit 2 year old Reba at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. You know that classic scene in the Rocky movie where he’s running up the stairs, ready to take on life? DUN.DUN.DUN.DUN. DUN.DUN.DUUUUUUUUN! Well that’s THIS Rocky, ALL.THE.TIME! Push play and watch him gooooo! There’s no “pause”button on this guy lol. Rocky may be 8 years old, but he is feeling gooood! Rocky has tons of energy and wiggles and wags so hard, I thought he was going to fall over lol. Rocky is a super happy guy and loves to run and sniff and explore! Rocky is always happy to show off “sit” for a treat and is very focused; they say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but I’m sure Rocky would love to learn something new! Rocky was surrendered to the shelter for not doing well with the kids in the home. We are recommending an adult only home for Rocky. How former owners said he loves car rides, is crate trained and very friendly and playful with adults. Rocky did well overall with his dog eval. He was polite with his greetings and coexisted in the yard well with the other dogs. Bring your dog in for an intro and we can help make sure everyone gets along (always recommended!). You can visit 6 year old Rocky at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Rocky's $25 adoption fee includes neuter, rabies certificate and County license. show less

Say hello to Steppenwolf! No, not the rock band. 😉 This guy isn’t so much “born to be wild” as he is born to be sweet and cute! Steppenwolf is a shy guy who really blossoms once he knows you. He starts off a bit wary with new people, but warms up quick. Once he knows you, he is very loving and loyal and will look to you for reassurance when meeting new people. I've met Steppenwolf a few times already and this last time he greeted me like we were old friends (I guess by now we are, actually!). Steppenwolf was all about pets, attention and treats this past week! You bring the pets and treats, and Steppenwolf will bring the CUTE! Steppenwolf is overall a mostly chill dog. He likes sniffing around the yard or going on a little walk, but he's mostly happy to just be near you hanging out. Steppenwolf did ok overall with his dog eval; he mostly kept to himself, but was able to co-exist fine in the yard with the other dogs. If you have a dog at home already, bring them in for an intro and we can help make sure everyone gets along. You can visit 3 year old Steppenwolf at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Steppenwolf's $25 adoption fee includes neuter, rabies certificate and County license. show less
