Name: Cayenne Location: Garden City Park, Long Island, NY Breed: Mixed Breed Approximate Age: 4 years young Sex: Female Weight: 35 lbs Medical History: Cayenne is spayed, up to date on shots, microchipped. 🐶Other Dogs: No ❌ 😽Cats: No ❌ 🏠House-trained: Yes ✅ ⭐️ Crate-trained: Yes ✅ 👫Kids: No❌ If you would like to meet Cayenne and / or are interested in fostering or adopting her, please contact AmsterDog at 917-689-8414 or amsterdog@gmail.com. To get the process started, please fill out our online application. Link to our Application: http://amsterdog.org/adoptionfoster-application/ Named Cayenne for her softer-than-velvet-orangey-red fur, this spicy little cuddle-bunny really should have been named Bit O’ Honey, cuz that’s what she is! Poor little Cayenne was found abandoned in an apartment in Manhattan, over a year ago. Avery kind hearted soul who discovered her wanted desperately to help but couldn’t keep her, and so Cayenne went to a boarding facility. The people there know what a love she is, and really want her to find a home, but it’s not as easy for Cayenne because she must be your 1 and only pet. Cayenne ADORES peaceful men & women, and she will thrive in a calm, structured, quiet environment. It’s true that Cayenne is still quite young, between 3-4 years old, and she does have a lot of energy, but there are no dog parks, or long walks around the neighborhood in her future. She has lots of fun chasing balls and playing with all kinds of toys, inside, or in a very secure, fenced yard. She is just happy to be with her people. Cayenne is very fearful of other dogs, so defensive aggression is an issue. Cayenne shakes in fear and lunges when other dogs approach her, and dogs who are used to being tested with others, retreat from her immediately. Cayenne should always be contained and supervised, and she must be securely muzzled if a public outing is necessary. A securely fenced yard is also a necessity for her. Cayenne needs a very responsible, very experienced person to love her & we guarantee that person will get their money’s worth & so much more! Cayenne is a bit timid at first, but just let her approach you in her own time and manner, and you will quickly earn her trust! She loves to cuddle and fall asleep with her favorite people. She responds very well to a gentle, happy tone, and she’s a happy girl, just not with other dogs, or furry little mammals that run fast and climb…her prey drive is high and mainly focused on squirrels, etc…-birds are mostly a curiosity. Cayenne is crate trained and her favorite things to chew are deer antlers, they keep her occupied and happy. Cayenne should never be over stimulated, or subjected to an environment that’s loud, angry, or chaotic, she’s a quiet & dainty little girl, who is very gentle and affectionate with her humans. Cayenne LOVES to go for rides in the car- there’s so much in the world for this little Bit O’ Honey to experience and see within the safety of her own family’s car and home…not so much happiness though, living in the confines of a small cage in a boarding facility for more than a year…her giant puppy heart is filling with sadness & tears…she’s still very young and has a lifetime of love, loyalty, devotion & joy to share with a very special person or people, who understand her needs and can keep her safe and loved for the rest of her precious life. show less

Pittie, needs a Home! New Hartford, NY, Oneida County DARLIN' - A name, a term of endearment….so deserved for this sweet 60 lb, 8 year old girl. Surrendered to our care when her person lost their home, Darlin' lost everything too – her person, her home, her safety. She’s an amazing dog who is not only housetrained, she heads to the edge of the sidewalk to take care of her business. Her leash manners are good; she pulls only when there is a new scent that can’t wait to be investigated. Darlin comes with rockstar comments from her former person: she’s friendly to all people, loves kids, loves baths and will jump into the tub on her own, loves dogs of both genders but prefers males to females, is not a fan of kitties, sleeps on her own bed but will sometimes sneak onto her person’s bed in the middle of the night, loves to jump and give kisses, loves belly rubs, and knows sit (“put it down”). "I loved my time with this sweetheart – she is everything her former owner said and more. She’s gorgeous, sweet, playful, snuggly, takes treats gently, has a great smile and gorgeous eyes, is beautifully groomed, loved playing with a plush toy, posed for photos like a pro. Seriously, if you are still reading this and not rushing over to meet her you are missing out on a gem. Darlin' – her name and a very deserved term of endearment, but don’t just take my word for it…..see for yourself." Darlin is spayed, up to date on shots, and microchipped. This happy, healthy, darling girl DARLIN is ready to meet you! ? show less

Meet Hudson 3 years old 55 lbs Milford, CT Hudson came into the shelter in New York City as a stray who was brought in by the police. He endeared himself to the volunteers during the limited time he was able to spend with them, but he had extreme difficulty coping with the stress of the shelter environment and being in a kennel. We can't say for certain what occurred in his previous life to cause him such anxiety and fear of being "behind bars", but we think he may have been teased and/or tormented while being locked up in a cage or other small area. One thing we do know.... he definitely wasn't treated very well. Humans have let this boy down big time. But according to the volunteers at the shelter, once he got to see the same faces over and over and spend time with them, they found Hudson to be very sweet and affection-seeking, often wanting to climb into their laps and soak up just that short time of being cuddled and loved. They also said he loved engaging in independent play with his toys. For the past several months, Hudson has been in a foster-training program where he is learning how a cherished pup and family member is to behave in a home environment. He's been doing great with his manners and learning commands, he's housebroken, and he's even come to learn that the crate does not need to be a scary place when you're in a real home and surrounded by people who love him and who he can trust. His foster parents are also working with him on his anxiety and reactivity towards strangers and other dogs. Hudson will do best in a single-pet home where his pet-parent(s) has experience working with a dog on its trust and fear issues, and where he will be able to continue working on overcoming his anxieties and related behaviors. He has shown that in the right environment, he wants to learn and he wants to please his trusted people! He just needs someone willing to give him the time and patience and skills he needs to keep working on being the best pup he can be! In order to achieve this, a suburban or sub-rural area would be the ideal environment for him to be able to focus on his own growth without the distractions of lots of strange people and other pets continuously passing by (as commonly found in urban or city setting). Hudson is a special boy who deserves all the good that life has to offer....he's just waiting for that special family who sees all the potential in him that is yet to be achieved. If Hudson's story is one that you can relate to and you are the special, patient, understanding pet-parent that he needs, please contact AmsterDog at info@amsterdog.org or complete our application at www.amsterdog.org/application to get the process started. Hudson is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots. Thank you for caring about a pet in need! show less

Meet JellyBean 3 years old 65 lbs West Haven, CT At the shelter in New York City where JellyBean arrived as a stray, the volunteers said, "JellyBean takes his time making new friends but once the key to his heart - food - is found, he will warm up quickly. He needs a special person who will understand that he has a guarded heart and will make friends at his own pace. Once he knows you, he will show off his good side, rolling around on the floor and happily dancing by tapping his front feet. A quiet home where he will have the space and time to do this would be ideal for him. Once he gets to know his people, he will be a loyal friend.” Based on what we've learned about him, we suspect he's been mistreated in the past and, understandably, it takes him some time to warm up to his person (or people) and begin to trust them. With his current foster mom, he's really begun to blossom in her care. "Jellybean is very special," she says. "He promotes himself as a tough guy, but far from it - he's truly a lover! JellyBean is a happy soul, just scared someone is going to hurt him which is completely normal. Although he's nervous and confused, he's feeling more confident every day. He has an amazing sense of character, loves to explore and learn. He's pulling through in his own time. He's come a long way since he first arrived and I believe in him. He's finally beginning to learn to love life." His foster mom also reports that JellyBean loves his toys, is well-mannered with food, and takes treats nicely. He is well behaved/trained, low-key, and knows his basic commands. He walks well on the leash; doesn't attempt to bother anyone and is non-reactive (indifferent) to other dogs that he passes by - he looks to his trusted person for reassurance and guidance. Since loud noises and sudden movements make JellyBean nervous, and knowing he is very protective of "his person", he will be best set up to succeed in an experienced, adult-only, single-pet home that is calm and low-key where he can continue gaining confidence and building his newfound trust of humans. "JellyBean's definitely been hurt to the soul," says his foster mom. "He just wants to fit in and he's slowly starting to believe that no one will ever hurt him again. Now, he's just waiting for that family that wants to give him a permanent home and love him forever!" If JellyBean's story is one that you can relate to and you feel you are the special, patient, understanding person (or people) that he needs, please contact AmsterDog at info@amsterdog.org or complete our application at www.amsterdog.org/application to get the process started. JellyBean is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots. Thank you for caring about a pet in need! show less

It’s sad that “I will love you forever” at 8wks ended up meaning, I will love you until life gets tough, you do something wrong, or until I get old. Then, I will dump you in a big, scary, loud shelter in the city. And, I will sign you over to be euthanized, as supposedly, I am old, people aggressive, and animal aggressive. That’s Justice’s story. Her family welcomed her into their home at 8wks and then dropped her off to die at 5-6yrs old. Now, we don’t know the whole story, but we will tell you that it is apparent that Justice was not socialized outside the yard or home. Maybe she was owned by someone who didn’t understand guardian breeds. Maybe she was owned by someone who didn’t know they were adding a highly intelligent, working dog to the family and that this higher energy mastiff breed needed exercise, socialization, and training. Or maybe she was owned by someone who started off training and socializing her and then had tragedy strike and everything took the back seat. Whatever it may be, Justice did NOT deserve to die. CCR could not allow that to happen. We brought Justice to safety and now that we have learned more about her, we know that she needs an experienced home WITHOUT small dogs or cats. Here’s a little more about Justice: Justice is an active 5-6 year old Cane Corso who was surrendered to a Philadelphia city shelter back in February, by the family who added her to their family 5-6yrs prior. AmsterDog and CCR came together to save Justice hours before she was “to be destroyed”. She is currently being fostered by a fantastic and very experienced CCR foster family in Delaware. However, there’s one major issue…. Justice likes the cats too much. Remember that love for chasing the tennis ball I mentioned? Well, that stems from Justice’s incredible working drive, otherwise known as her “prey drive”. We REALLY need to get Justice into a foster to adopt situation in which she is ideally, the only dog. And, definitely NO cats or small dogs. Justice has no known history with children, so please don’t apply if you have children under 12 who live in your home or visit your home. Justice enjoys multiple walks a day, averaging about 3 miles. This girl has ENERGY and she can play fetch until her humans are more than worn out. Once she gets to know you, Justice is very loving and seeks out attention from men and women. Currently, she is crazy about her foster Dad… absolutely crazy about him! Justice is eager to please and knows many commands. She is getting better and better on leash, as she is as strong as an ox! **PLEASE SHARE JUSTICE’S STORY AND HELP US FIND THE PERFECT PERSON TO APPLY TO FOSTER OR ADOPT JUSTICE** show less

PRINCESS LIMA BEAN - 7 years old, 52 lbs, Manhattan Let's get to know each other a bit more... A volunteer writes: Princess Lima Bean is a delicate flower, soft and affectionate and longing for someone to take her under their wing and make her feel safe. She's shy at first, but very much wants to be friends, and with a 'slow and low' approach, is happy to come closer for petting and get dressed in a bandanna for our photo shoot. No camera can truly capture her aristocratic beauty, and she's not a fan of posing. Fortunately, my fun-loving friend Simba is playing in the pen next-door. The two are soon enraptured with each other. Princess hops onto the bench and gazes longingly through the fence, whining a little at her beau who jumps and grins hello back at her, then throws in a few reciprocal whines of his own. Even after he leaves the yard, her big brown eyes keep watch on the door, a perfectly loyal Juliet wondering wherefore art her Romeo. I'm a poor substitute but try to soften the loss with some gentle snuggles, and Princess sweetly rewards me with fluttering little cheek kisses. Out in the street she walks nicely on leash, almost immediately takes care of business, and passes yappy small dogs with ease. When a familiar staff member approaches, she greets them with tiny happy tail wags. Princess is quietly charming, easy to handle and so easy to love. With time and TLC from a caring family, she's going to blossom into the most wonderful pet. Lima Bean Videos: https://youtu.be/_DMbKAaOdm0 https://youtu.be/AFAsoS-ZLHo show less

Meet SLADE SLADE - 4 years old, 41 lbs Northeast CT Sweet, gentle, affection-seeking Slade arrived at the shelter with trauma wounds all over his poor little body. Slade is a little guy that seems to have hit a rough patch, but even though he's a little banged up, he is as cute and sweet as can be! He is very friendly, frequently props his paws up for attention, and wags his tail when you talk to him. He is house-trained, likes treats, but most importantly likes to spend his time next to you. He's looking for a place to heal and a family to love... From his foster mom: "A bouncy, compact bundle of joy whose tail has not stopped wagging since the minute he walked through our door. Despite the obvious cruelty he endured, there is not a mean bone in this little guy's body. When you see the injuries on his sweet face and that vulnerable, small stature it makes you wonder how someone could be so heartless. Just to watch him can warm the coldest of hearts... He is so spectacular that in only hours he has taken our lives by storm! Yet after a full day of bouncing, kissing, making the world a better place, he hits his bed hard and floats off to dreamland! This boy loves to sleep! And sleep he does. Once it's lights out, he means it. He prefers to be out of the crate and in a doggie bed. We can only wonder what dark memories he has, and the crate certainly brings back a few. As long as he has an area to call his own, he'll be happy as a clam, though he’d much rather be close to you and follow you around all day! Considering he weighs only 41 pounds, I can assure you that 40 pounds of it is all heart. He is not a hugger though, and he prefers to be walked rather than picked up. He's still as clingy as one can get, and he loves to be pet! Give him a massage and he just melts. He deserves the best home in the world, one where he’s the only pet, and the only child, to give him the greatest chance of success! He's taken our breath away and deserves nothing less than perfection. Whoever would be lucky and blessed enough to have this kind hearted, sweet faced, gentle lamb in their life has certainly won the lottery." Slade is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots. If you would like to meet this love bug, please contact AmsterDog at 917-689-8414 or complete our application at www.amsterdog.org/application. ♥ show less
