About Jeffrey Shark

This lil' guy, Jeffrey Shark, is officially neutered, vaxed, chipped, and ready for his forever home! We think he is a Boston-Pug mix (bug). Approximately 13-14 weeks old, 10 or so pounds. He came to us from a shelter in cali with a severe eye injury to his left eye. He has been seen by an eye specialist at OVRA several times and on the road to recovery. If you know pugs, you know on going eye issues is very common.

Foster mom says: This guy will have chronic eye issues for life, but if properly maintained, will keep his vision and should stay mostly infection free. We've been through this with three pugs and two pekes over the past 10 years, so happy to answer questions about it, should anyone have any. The infection in his eye is 90% healed, but he is still getting antibiotic drops 2x/day for a bit longer. He will need eye lube 2x/day forever; he produces some tears, but not quite enough, and he doesn't fully close his eyes when he sleeps, which dries them faster. His new crew will need to help manually "blink" for him as part of his petting routine, which is easy peasy. He may need a daily antibiotic ointment added at some point, too (TBD). He has a little bit of vision in the bad eye; there is a lot of scar tissue. Dr. Maxwell thinks some of that will disappear. She'd like to see him again in March, and if there is significant scar tissue still present, she will prescribe a steroid drop to encourage the scarring to fall off. He *could* have an enucleation in his future, but she was a strong advocate for not going there at this time. In terms of personality, he is SPUNKY. He has a LOT of energy - so you wouldn't be getting a lazy lap dog. Dude wants to play 24/7, even if his potential playmate is giving him all signs to stand down. Now that his eye is comfortable, he is sleeping, which is awesome. He is starting to get the hang of potty training. He is only about 13 - 14 weeks old though, so this should start to improve soon. He has a very strong sit and is working on down. He crates pretty well, and like all puggy-types, is super food motivated. All-in-all, he is an adorably hilarious puppy who thinks he is a big dog, and he will make an awesome family member for someone with the time to keep training him and routing all of that energy - and the means to manage his ongoing vision care.

Jeffery Shark is fixed, vaccinated, and adoption includes being microchipped, current on flea/tick prevention meds and has been dewormed. They come with a collar, 2 free vet exams, a bag of grain free dog food, and a private training session with certified trainer, and more! adoption fee: $500. We accept Cash, Credit, and debit and credit cards. There is a 2% fee if using a card at the time of adoption. Will also come with his remaining eye meds.

Meet Abby, from Trinity animal control. Abby was surrendered to the shelter very pregnant, and gave birth to 9 pups on 12/29/18. 3 of her pups were adopted but the remaining 6 plus mom were transferred to Lucky paws (all pups have been adopted). Abby was abused by a man at some point in her life-she often panics when she sees a man and wants to move away-she will even flinch when ppl she trusts attempt to pet her but recovers quickly once she realizes she won't be hit. So initally she will bark, growl and move away to new men,she doesn't approach to threaten actual harm. Shes been in 2 fosters with men and in about 4 days she totally bonds and stops that behavior with men, she has a very forgiving soul once that trust earns she is delighted to see anyone shes bonded too-its really sweet to see. In her foster in cali where she raised her pups she warmed up to the man of the house. Now in foster in Oregon shes living with 2 men and totally adores them. Food is the key to her heart. She LOVES to play with other dogs, becomes your total shadow. A bit insecure at first and worried about all the change and will follow a lot, but firm boundaries and she will settle in. She doesn't pay attention to the house cats nor did she pay attention to the shelter cats. She will seek to play with a kitty who wants to play back but listens to their cues. She is 100% house trained. Give this special girl 24 hours to decompress in your home and you will see the side of her we see that is loving, happy, and sweet. She is so nervous meeting new people its hard to see that at first, but in the 2 fosters shes been to thats been her pattern to feel safe. Best thing about Abby is once that bond is set, she doesn't seem to forget people. I've met her 2x and she thinks we are best buds now. All dogs are fixed, vaccinated, and adoption includes being microchipped, current on flea/tick prevention meds and has been dewormed. They come with a collar, 2 free vet exams, a bag of grain free dog food, and a private training session with certified trainer, and more! adoption fee: $125. We accept Cash and Debit/Credit Cards. There is a 2.5% fee if using a card at the time of adoption.  If interested in meeting this dog, please email: adopt@luckypawssite.org to request an application or come down to our public adoption event this Saturday 5/4 12:30-4pm at Petsmart in Eugene (2847 Chad drive) in the back of the store. These 9 puppies (8 boys, 1 girl) came to us after being found in a tote with the lid shut behind a store. Yes ALL of them were shoved in a small container and ALL were skin and bones. Thanks to their loving foster mom, they are now ready for adoption and at a healthy weight! They are all SO loving, sweet, and funny. They show no fear of people despite being handed a rough deck of cards initially. These guys will make the most loving and loyal family members.  All dogs are fixed, vaccinated, and adoption includes being microchipped, current on flea/tick prevention meds and has been dewormed. Meet Copper, a 2 year old male Golden Retriever. He was surrender to us after going through 2 homes after leaving his breeder. Copper is insecure for a variety of reasons. He was in a home with a lot of children and did not have his space respected. He didn't have owners who knew how to support him when he was overwhelmed. He did only what he could to communicate he was uncomfortable when cornered, pulled on, etc, which was to defend his space. He was then rehomed to an adult only home who didn't walk him or expand his world, reshape his views on the world, drain his anxious energy. Instead they reinforced his negative behavior by allowing him to jump on strangers, invade space, and corrected him by hitting him with rolled newspaper to the face. We spent a lot of time learning that hands coming to the face does not = being hit. When Copper would invade space, he would look to his owner for direction, when the owner became nervous on what to do, Copper became nervous. He would try to control his space by dictating what he wanted done. If people pet him and stopped he would nip a hand to indicate he wanted to have petting continue. Copper went to boot camp training for 2 months. In that time he gained a ton of confidence, learned about car rides, walks, socializing, and was reintroduced to children. Copper wouldnt ever give up a toy on intake, he would hoard every possession and wanted thing on his terms. He worked on obedience, crate training, and rules. He began to thrive immediately. For the past 6+ weeks Copper was moved to a family home where he continues to thrive. In fact, with a confident owner and in an adult home he has been the perfect house guest. He is happy, loving, and funny. He is crate trained but doesn't destory things when left out so he doesn't need a crate, BUT he does put himself in the crate (door open) if he's uncomfortable or needs a break, its been a fabulous tool for him. He is 100% house trained, no accidents. He LOVES getting out of the house, loves meeting people, and has learned to MOVE AWAY when he is nervous, something he didn't know how to do before due to being negatively punished and not knowing how to escape in the past. He is excellent with other dogs, takes social cues from them well, great with cats. Knows sit, down, wait, off, lay down, up, etc. He is very food motivated and not aggressive about taking food. He was protective of his food and of bones initally in the foster home, but within 2 weeks of bonding with his pack we have not seen that behavior in over a month. Bones and toys are left down all day and he does not obsess. He is a dream dog for the right home. He does not get up on furniture uninvited. He needs to be on grain free fish based food with no poultry in the ingredients or he will get yeasty ears.  Copper needs to go to a new home with a confident well balanced dog who likes to play- no exception. No apartments, must have  a fenced yard and be open to a home check to transition him to his new home. New owner must be confidence with rules-he is not a dog who can just be allowed to do whatever he wants. He thrives with direction, it makes him feel safe. Someone who will be able to tell strangers his rules (Not invading space, sitting for attention, not allowing him to put his paws/body on people, etc-can discuss in person and explain what works for him and why). Copper is like a brand new dog and would not ever attack a child, but he is visably uncomfortable with being forced to share space with children. He has learned to bond with children, but he does not prefer it. He cannot go to a home with small children, period- no exception. If you have young child, children that visit frequently, he is not the dog for you. If you have teens who can follow his rules (ie respecting space etc) he would be fine. If you have young children who visit infrequently he can handle that just fine by being in a crate during the visit, or being told to lay down, put behind a baby gate etc.  It may seem like he is a problem dog, but in fact he is the best boy. He is about 66lbs, full grown. He LOVES water, get in the bath, great in the car, great a home that fits his needs. He is a joy to have around. Has a ton of training under his belt, and once he bonds he gives clear signals to his people when he is stressed so its easy to see what he needs. We all adore him here at the rescue and have enjoyed seeing him change. In the right home we also feel like he will continue to be the happy boy that he has become and even thrive further. All dogs are fixed, vaccinated, and adoption includes being microchipped, current on flea/tick prevention meds and has been dewormed. They come with a collar, 2 free vet exams, a bag of grain free dog food, and a private training session with certified trainer, and more! adoption fee: $450. We accept Cash and Debit/Credit Cards. Nahvi is now 6 month old, 25lbs and likely will be around 35-40lbs once full grown. She has come a long way and now ready to move on in her journey. She loves to play, good with all other animals. She is not snappy. She is fostered on 200 acres unfenced and doesn't run off. Nahvi is in a home with children and doesn't mind them, would do best in a home with another dog, she loves their company and looks to them for guidence. Nahvi and her brother scout are four month old mixed breed pups. They came to us from Shasta shelter feral- never been around humans. Shelter and vet wanted to euthanize but we gave them a fighting chance. They are coming around nicely! They love other dogs, doing well on house training. They still have some fear of people but acclimate well to their families. They are getting better with handling! They need a special adopted to help continue their growth. Scout was since adopted and the more fearful of the 2, within 3 days in his new home he was walking on leash and settling into home life. This guy is coming to us at the end of the week. 1.5 year old pure bred Cane Corso, was surrenderd to the shelter because the owners didn't know he'd be so big and was left uncrated in a home and he was chewing stuff up when they left him alone. Instead of investing in a secure crate, exercising, or professional training, they surrendered him to a very high kill shelter. Pic below shows him in the shelter, we will have better pics as he settles in.He was said to live with children and has tested well with large and small dogs. He lived in his previous home with smaller dogs too. He is a big boy, coming in at about 130lbs (maybe more-he is solid) and still filling out. Breed experience preferred, no apartments please.
