Ainsley is currently being fostered at Coconut Hound Haven Ainsley was found starving on the streets with her Mom and sister. Most of her siblings did not survive. They all have healing to do from mange and also need to gain weight. They are underweight from being manurished while on the streets. Ainsley is just 10 lbs and just 10 weeks old. Bender is currently being fostered in Kingston, Ontario Bender is a happy, lovable young boy. He is about 80 lbs and 1.4 years old. We have been told that bender is a variety of Hound mixes! Bender is great with and very attentive with children. He is also a real ladies man, he loves to bond with females. Bender loves to be outside playing in the yard. This is a must for him. Bender loves to play fetch and is a very good retriever of ball. He does need a secure yard because he is a good problem solver and happy to try to find small holes he will fit through to get out. Bender would do amazing with a family that was active and enjoyed running, hiking or other outdoor activities. Bender is not leash trained. He is strong and he still pulls. He needs a handler who is willing to leash train him. His foster is currently working on this but he still requires more work. Bender does have a bit of separation anxiety. We would like to find a family for Bender that is not away long hours during the day. He is used to spending 4-5 hours alone. Any more than that and he begins to struggle. He is crate trained but he does not love his crate. It makes him anxious to spend long periods of time in there alone. If he was going to be crated he would require further training in order to make it a positive place. His foster is working on this now but it would need to carry over.  He likes to be with his people. Bender happily spends the night sleeping soundly on the couch or snuggling with you in bed. Bender loves to try to sit on people's laps. He really doesn't understand how large he is. He just wants to be close. He is  house trained. Bender is still learning not to jump, it is a work in progress and he is doing much better. He understands his commands and does well with consistency. He needs an adopter with the time to work on training with him.  Bender behaves very much like puppy, a very happy, playful puppy! Bender loves to play with other dogs, he is currently being fostered with cats. He is learning to be more polite and settled with them.  Bender is not a barker, nor a chewer by nature. He does enjoy digging sometimes though. Bender loves to play sniffing games and he is very good at it. He would do really great with an adopter that was interested in doing sniff training with him.  Bender is up to date on his vaccinations, microchipped and neutered. Bender is a Kingston, Ontario pup in a re homing situation. His owners have asked us to assist in finding him the perfect forever home. He was originally adopted from the Humane Society. Bender is well loved by his family. With 2 young children they have come to realize that Bender needs a home where someone can give him more time, attention and training. He needs to be in a place where someone is not away for long periods of time and can help him use his energy in productive ways. Bender requires a secure yard. Blanquito is currently being fostered in the Dominican Republic Meet Blanquito, he is available for adoption. He is a typical 2 year old Dominican dog, who is an escape artist and likes to walk the street. Victoria, his owner, is afraid for him, afraid that he will get run over and get hurt as they live on a very busy street in Luperon. He does get along with other dogs. We are not sure about his interaction with kids but we do not feel it would be a good idea until he has more training. Blanquito is very possessive and protective of his home. He has issues with people coming into his space and will growl and sometimes bite. Blanquito needs an experience adopter who is willing to train him and socialize him properly.  Blanquito is neutered and fully vaccinated and has been coming to our monthly parasite clinic for treatment every month, Victoria actually brings him to the park without a collar and leash, she just speaks to him and he follows her. He will be staying with Victoria until a suitable forever home can be found for him. show less

Cain is being fostered in Kingston, Ontario. This boy was born Feb.12/18, he is up to date on vaccines, microchipped and neutered. Cain weighs about  30 lbs. He is cuddly and loving, gets along well with the other dogs. Cain is a playful 1 year old puppy. Cain walks very well on a leash but also loves running and playing in a fenced yard. He would be at his happiest in a home with a fenced yard. Cain can be an ervous boy at times. He will do best in a home with no young children (they make him anxious) because of sudden noises and movements. He would be perfectly fine in a family with slightly older, calm children who are dog aware. Baby's and very young children will cause him stress.  Cain does have some separation anxiety so we are looking for a home for him with an adopter that is not away from home all day. He can manage comfortably for about four to five hours alone. He would love to have another canine friend to play with in his forever home. One to keep him company and to snuggle with while his family is away. Cain has never been around cats so we are unaware of how that would go for him. He is a very sensitive boy who is food motivated and will train well with praise and rewards. He needs a patient adopter that is willing to work on gaining trust through positive reinforcement. Cain was adopted initially upon arriving in Ontario. We were unaware of his seperation anxiety at the time because Cain had never been alone for long periods of time.  That home was not the best possible home for him so his family asked us to help him find a more suitable one. He was able to return to his original foster in Kingston. At his fosters home there are two older children that Cain is fabulous with. He does not need to spend long hours alone so he feels little stress or seperation anxiety. He also has a dog companion that he is very close with and finds a great deal of comfort in being around. His ideal home would mimic his foster home for the best success. A home check will be required prior to finalizing Cain's adoption. show less

Chocolate is currently being fosered in the Dominican Republic Meet Chocolate, a 1 year old dog that has spent his whole life attached to a tree in the kite beach hotel parking lot. I took him in about a month ago, I couldn’t stand seeing him chained to a tree anymore. He’s a sweetheart, he loves to cuddle and take long walks on the beach. He sits in Spanish, lays down in French and stays in English 🤣! He is so intelligent it took me 2 minutes to teach him how to give the paw. He is still young and needs to be socialized. Choco is vaccinated, sterilized and healthy!  He needs someone who can manage him when it comes to socializing with other dogs. I also think putting him in a dog pack would do wonders for him. At the moment he is scared and that comes out as aggression. He needs to be correctly socialized after his time on the streets. He is very protective of himself and his space. Chocolate needs an adopter who has experience with this or someone who is willing to use a trainer.    show less

Diesel  is being fostered in Montreal, Canada Hey guys! My name is Diesel. I am 1.8 years old, neutered, microchipped and up to date on all of my vaccines. I weigh in at 45 pounds and am a medium sized boy, I am pretty sure I am done growing! I am a very special guy. Want to know why? I only have one ear! That's right, just one! I had a hematoma (sort of like a HUGE blood blister) in my ear and it got infected. It came down to either me or the ear, so thankfully the humans here chose me! I have healed up perfectly and other then appearances you would never even know! I am a quiet boy, I do not bark much. I am good with most dogs, but I am selective of my male doggy friends.  I do not like cats, sorry. My ideal home would have a nice big yard for me to run, play and roll around in. Maybe a female friend to play with? I have not been around children yet so I am unsure on how I would be. My foster Mom says because I am so gentle and sweet that she thinks I would be great with kids. I have been doing a lot of practicing walking on a leash. I am beginning to understand how big I am and that I need to be gentle. I am doing well with house training but I still need to practice more. When people are home I do a great job. When I am alone all day I have some accidents in the house. I am crate trained though, my foster Mom keeps me safe and out of trouble that way when I am going to be alone for long stretches. I don't really like to be alone for long. maybe just a few hours at a time. I miss my people a lot when they are gone. I really like to be able to sleep with my people at night instead of by myself in my crate. If I am alone for too long and I am not in my crate sometimes I can get into trouble. I might do something silly like knock the garbage over!  Don't let my looks fool you. I am a bit of a gentle giant. My favourite thing to do is snuggle on the couch and give kisses. Fiona is currently being fostered in Las Terranas, Dominican Republic. Fiona has occasional seizures.  She loves her bed and pillow to keep warm on cold days. She loves to be brushed and have her back scratched. If there are sudden movements she sometimes gets nervous but with time she learns to trust.  She enjoys lots of rest in her bed after she has had a seizure. If something exciting is happening she joins the crowd. Fiona is not in need of any medication for her seizures. They are too infrequent to use medication for. She has averaged a seizure every month or two for the past year. They are most common in early evening. They are short but afterwards she is exhausted and will sleep alot. She needs to be provided with a safe place to rest. Since September she has had very few seizures. The vet has checked her over many times. They do not feel she is epilectic. They feel she had Ehrlichiosis, this is the Dominican tick born illness. She has now been treat for this. She has not had a seizure since. We are unsure if her seizures will continue. When they do she requires a gentle stoke and a soothing voice without any panic or stress.  this is really all you can do. She does not need to go to a vet afterwards, just loved. She is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations. Fiona is about 70 lbs and almost 7 years of age. She is ready for her forever home. HI! My name is Fluffer Nutter. I am currently 11 weeks old and love to play with my 2 brothers and 2 sisters. I was rescued off a beach and then 2 ladies came and took us to an even safer place to live. One of the ladies (Tanya) likes snacks, so we were all named after her favorite treats to thank her for saving us!  I'm a little shy when I am around all of my siblings, but I love one on one time Fluffer Nutter, along with his 4 siblings (Kit Kat, Skittles, Twizzler and Snickers were found at 2 days old along with their mom, on a deserted stretch of beach by a great local man. DR had been experiencing a lot of rain and the local man knew they would not survive if left alone. The kittens are all now weaned and wil be spayed and vaccinated at an upcoming clinic show less

Ivy is located in Napanee, Ontario. Ivy is a very energetic playful girl. She wants at least one other canine sibling in her home and she wants a large secure fenced yard or farm to burn off all her energy. Ivy loves to spend time outside playing. She requires a home with no children. She would do very well in an active family with a human hiker or runner! Ivy is a very smart girl and has a ton of love and cuddles to give. She responds very quickly to training. Ivy is looking for a forever home that is willing to work with her. She has some special needs that we would like to tell you about. Ivy needs to have an experienced owner. She needs an owner willing to continue her training in Napanee, Ontario. She also needs an owner willing to transfer care slowly beginning with visits, an over night, a weekend and so on. Ally has been doing extensive training for almost 6 months now and due to her past issues we need an adopter that is willing to learn and continue with this. In the past, Ivy has been very protective and does not like to have new people coming into her space. She has responded by being very nippy and barking. She may settle into her home quickly with the people she gets used to seeing and has become this way with any guests coming into the space. Ivy would require a home that is not a busy household and has as few people coming and going as possible. She would be an amazing companion dog for a single person. Her foster has put in a great deal of time and energy to curb her bad  behaviour. Ivy is doing doing very well but she needs an adopter willing to carry it forward. Ivy needs and deserves a forever home but it needs to be with someone willing to commit the time to continue training. Ivy would be an amazing dog for agility or scent work classes etc. Ivy wants to please and wants a job. She is very smart and learns quickly. Kambo is currently being foster at Coconut Hound Haven in the Dominican Republic. Kambo is approx. 8 months old and 30 lbs. He is shy at first, but once he warms up, he loves attention. He probably has never had human touch before, but now is loving every minute of it. He finally feels safe :) kambo would do well in a home where he could get lots of one on one attention. He still needs time to learn to trust humans. He would love to have that special person he could count on. He has lots of energy so he would do well with a person who enjoys walking, running, hiking etc. A person who enjoys training dogs in order to bond and build trust and confidence would be fabulous for Kambo. Hello, I am Kitty. I was on the street with my babies who were just born and didn't know what to do. Lucky someone rescued me and brought me to my foster mom. She took good care of me and my babies. But to be honest I didn't like to be touched too much when my babies were small. Also I didn't like the dogs close to my babies when they were small and would smack them for no reason . But with my babies all grown up I got over all that and I actually discovered I like to be pet. Recently I starting jumping up my foster mom's lap, that is actually really nice. Also I will allow her now to pick me up for a couple of minutes, also not bad, I think I could get used to this. I might give a little love bite to show how much I like it. With my foster mom having lots and lots of cats and another mother cat outside with her babies. It was decided I would stay inside. I was inside for months. I can go outside now, but really prefer to be inside now. I am completely litter box trained. I am okay with dogs also now. I just haven't been around kids yet. Look at my video and you will see how cute and playful I am. I really appreciate my foster mom and all she did for me and my babies. But it's time for me to find a home for myself now. show less

Laila is currently being fostered in the Dominican Republic UPDATE!!! I am only about two weeks from getting the nails out. I am healing really well. I have to spend one over night at the vet to have them taken out at the beginning of April and then after that they say I can travel to my forever home if I get adopted!! I am so excited, I hear there are lots of really amazing places out there that I could go to.  I'm a 2 year old girl who was very happy living in the streets of Santo Domingo and recently I was spayed and vaccinated by my godmother but a few days ago I was hit by a car and broke one of my back legs. The reality hit me when I was left there for 3 days with my broken leg and in a lot of pain, thankfully someone informed my godmother and she rushed me to the vet.I had a severe fracture (see the pictures), I underwent surgery and everything went very well. They inserted a few nails, I will have them for at least a few months and then go back to surgery to remove them. In the meantime I will go to a foster that will take good care of me. When I fully recover, my godmother said she won't return me to the streets and will find me a loving family. Will you be my forever family? My leg needs about 2 more weeks to heal and then I will be ready for my new home.  show less

LisaLisa is currently being fostered in the Dominican Republic. LisaLisa was attacked by a machette! She was a street dog who has been on the street all her life. We believe she is around 4 years old. She is about 30 lbs and is full grown. LisaLisa was picked up during outreach and taken to the vet. She was stitched up and given lots of TLC. She is currently recovering from both her machette attack and her spay surgery in foster care. She will soon be brought up to date on her vaccinations. Her stitches will be removed next week. LisaLisa is still skittish of people. She will take time to adaopt to living in a home with people. She is very sweet, calm and gentle. Even when loading her in a vehicle with her attack wounds she showed no signs of aggression. She isn't playing with the other dogs in her foster home but she has spent most of her time there healing so she needs more time to settle and adjust. She will need a patient adopter who is willing to give her time to get comfortable. She would do best in a quieter home as she is still very nervous. We will update her profile as we learn more about her. Once she is done healing from both her spay and her attack we will begin to see more of her personality emerg. show less

Lucy is currently being fostered in the Dominican Republic We believe Lucy belonged to one of the vendors that comes to the multiuso.  She seemed to have had atleast one set of puppies.  We had seen her for several weeks she was skinny and hobbling but happy to see us.  One day she had a cut on her head and she wasn't able to stand up anymore. She had gotten super skinny and super sad looking.  Lucy clearly needed our help!! Lucy had a broken hip. She has been vet checked and the vet has indicated that there is nothing more to be done for her hip. She has had x-rays during her vetting. She is healing up now and happy again. The vet feels it will take 5 to 6 months for her to be fully healed. She can already walk and run. She is still gaining weight and has a limp but she is a happy girl. She needs to gain about 10 more lbs to be her ideal weight. Lucy is very easy to get along with. She enjoys other dogs, cats and kids. Lucy is not a barker but does whimper and whine. She has only been in foster care for a few days though so that may disappear once she settles. Lucy would love to have a fenced yard to play in but she is also very chill so we feel she would cope well with apartment/condo living. She does not have a lot of experience with stairs yet. That would take some practice after her hip is fully healed. Lucy really loves to relax and chill on a very comfortable bed. She enjoys being in the house most of all. She is currently working on both house training and leash training. Lucy is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations. Lucy is ready for a home to call her own. show less

Luna is currently being fostered in the Dominican Republic Luna is the only survivor of 8 puppies. Her Mother passed away shortly after she gave birth. When she was around 6 months she fell from a 3rd floor causing damages to two of her legs. She had surgery and she recovered. She can't do a lot of exercise and one of her front legs is slightly turned but she plays and runs like any other dog. Her leg is turned because when she was healing in her cast, she chewed her cast and that allowed her leg to turn. Unfortunatley by the time they noticed this damage the leg had already healed. In order to straighten it they would have needed to re break her leg again. This was not an option they felt they wanted to use. Her owner is a girl who hardly can take care of herself (low income, no studies) and decided to give her up for adoption to give her a better life. She is a loving young girl and is unique, she loves to play and is super sweet. She gets along great with other dogs as well as cats and children.  Luna is one year old and about 25 lbs. She is not an extremly active dog because of her one leg. She enjoys mental stimulation and people! Luna loves to snuggle in for pets and belly rubs. She also walks well on a leash!  Luna has the beginning of house training but still needs you to watch for her cues that she needs to go out. She is not a chewer by nature and is good to only chew her toys. She is up to date on her vaccinations and spayed. She is now ready to travel to her forever home! show less

Maya is being fostered in the Dominica Republic.  Maya was a happy street dog who was pregnant with 10 puppies. Someone took her and sold her puppies. She was spayed when we discovered a sticker tumor. She had her rounds of chemo therapy and she has a clean bill of health now. But after spending several months with her foster mom, she can't g back on the street.  Maya is a well behaved girl who is very eager to learn and to please people. She is stunningly beautiful with the most unique, yello eyes. She will bark if others start, but by herself she is pretty good. She is still young and can chew on things if they are left laying around. She will try to hold it, but she isn't completly house trained yet. She is working hard on it. Maya gets along very well with male dogs. She gets along with some female dogs however Maya will need to be the dominant female in the household. Maya does not enjoy cats or chickens! She would need a home with neither please!  Maya has never been around children. Maya is used to being chained in the yard. She would love to have a fenced yard to run around in but she would be ok on a tie out with walks or runs. Maya is 2 years old and about  60 lbs. She is spayed, healthy, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped anad ready to find her forever home.  show less

Nexa is being fostered in the Dominican Republic Nexa is a very sweet 1 year old girl. She weighs about 25 lbs but should be about 35 at optimal weight. She has had puppies recently and is still needs to gain weight after nursing. She was rescued after being found in the parking lot of a gas station alone. She is very friendly and not at all scared of human contact. She instantly came to her rescuer and shook a paw, followed her to the car to go home! Nexa is a very happy girl with a lot of energy to burn. She settles once she is exercised but she does require a securly fenced yard to run and play in. She is proving to be very smart and already learning her commands and being respectful of the boundries. She has seen the barn cats and has had no reaction but has not had a lot of up close contact with them so we are uncertain still how she would be with cats. She does well with all people and dogs. nexa has not yet been brought up to date on vaccinations or spayed. She has only been in foster care for one week. We will be up dating her vaccinations and getting her spayed as soon as possible.  show less

Peru is currently located at Coconut Hound Haven in the Dominican Republic Peru is the sweetest boy. He is just over a year old and about 13 lbs. He is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations. He gets along great with other dogs. He has not been exposed to cats yet. He has not been around children however he has such a great disposition we would not expect any issues. He loves people and is a very gentle natured calm dog. He is very easy to get along with. Peru is searching for his forever family. show less

Popeye is currently being fostered in the Dominican Republic. Popeye was astreet puppy , was chasing chickens so someone relocated him --The man was told to drop him off but he took him to his barrio and tried to be a good dog dad. His  job changes left the dog alone and nobody was caring for him, so he asked DCDR for help to find him a great home. He's affectionate , mellow but can be playful . Loves to run. Has  been fine with other  dog. he does not do well with cats. He did basically live outside in the barrio , is self assured and a very easy dog to have around . No accidents in house so far. He learns quickly. He has not been exposed to any children yet. He is about one and a half years old and 18 lbs. We believe he is part Corgi mix. He is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations.  show less

Romey is currently being fostered at Coconut Hound Haven in the Dominican Republic 5 months old, approx. 15 lbs. Sweet and gentle. His story as told by his rescuer, Judith Pratt-Jefferies 💕 "Because of this puppy, Romey, a family was discovered in abject poverty conditions,trying to survive with no food, no water, and no electricity. Romey led some people to this house, and so the help began. But Romey was suffering. He was growing fast and was too hungry for the small amount of kibble available which he had to share with 2 other small dogs..He is sweet and friendly but he was sure to endure abuse in the area in which he roamed looking for food, perhaps even wounding and death..He needed a safe place to grow and become the faithful sweet dog he has the potential to be. He is a new intake on Feb 22, 2017. We will update more about his personality as it becomes available. We will be getting him up to date on his vaccinations and he will be neutered when it is appropriate. So far we can see that he LOVES people and he walks really well on a leash! He is doing really well and getting to know the staff and dogs. show less

Rucia is currently located at Coconut Hound Haven in the Dominican Republic.  This little girl was found on a vacant piece of land in Punta Rucia all by herself, far from any houses. Obviously dumped 🙁 she is about 4 months old and weighs 12 lbs. She is vaccinated,  spayed  and is available for adoption. Her new name is Rucia. show less

Sandy is currently being fostered at Coconut Hound Haven. She will be coming to Ontario and available for adoption. Sandy is a one year old girl and full grown at about 12.5 lbs. We do expect her to gain weight once she is in the care of a foster and getting healthy meals again. Sandy is a very strong willed, determined girl. She has managed on the streets with only the use of her front end. Her back end is paralyzed but she is mobile with just her front legs. That right there tells you something about this girls will power. She has a wheel chair waiting for her when she arrives in Ontario. She will have her vet check on March 19 and if deemped healthy and fit she will be spayed and ready to travel to find a forever home in Ontario! show less

Are you my new family? My name is Saza, I am 3 years old, spayed, vaccinated and Microchipped. Not too long ago my human started to look different, she started moving a bit slower then one day she was gone. My sister and I were told she went to a magical place called Heaven to wait for us, but until then I would love to find a new family of my own. A family that would like to run around in the backyard with, to go to the dog park with, and to snuggle up on the couch with (treats and belly rubs are also welcome). I am a shy but kind girl. I am good with other dogs, cats and children. I do have an older sister Jaya (8) who in a perfect world could come with me to my new forever home, but we both understand that isn't always possible. One of the ladies (Tanya) likes snacks, so we were all named after her favorite treats to thank her for saving us!  I am a very friendly boy. I love to cat fight with my brother Fluffer Nutter Skittles, along with his 4 siblings (Kit Kat, Snickers, Twizzler and Fluffer Nutter were found at 2 days old along with their mom, on a deserted stretch of beach by a great local man. DR had been experiencing a lot of rain and the local man knew they would not survive if left alone. The kittens are all now weaned and wil be spayed and vaccinated at an upcoming clinic show less

Currently being fostered in the Dominican Republic Tazz is a silly, rambunctious 3 month old puppy who loves to play. He is 3 months old, up to date on vaccinations and will be neutered when age appropriate.  Tazz is a nervous boy when first meeting someone. He will do a nervous bark if he is unsure. He does warm up quickly though. When he is really nervous he will have a small accident. Hopefully as he gains confidence this will stop. Tazz loves to play with other dogs. He would love to have a doggie friend. He is also very playful with his toys. He is working on both house training and leash training and both are going well. Tazz has not yet met any cats or children so we are unsure of how he would react.  show less

Hey everyone! My name is Wannita I am roughly 2 years old and quite the cuddle bug! I bet you have noticed my missing eye, it's okay, don't be alarmed! When I was found I was not in good shape at all, I honestly thought I was never going to be saved or find this thing called a "family" but now I am so hopeful! I had an injury to my eye and it could not be saved so the amazing DCDR crew scooped me up, took me to the vet and got me all fixed up! I don't hurt anymore!! I have been loving life here in the Dominican witb my foster mama and making friends with her cats and dogs (she likes to spoil me with ear scritches). Now that I am healthy and back to acting like my normal cuddly self, I am looking for my forever home, my place to curl up on the couch and purr the nights away!
