About Buster

Mayo is currently located at Coconut Hound Haven in the Dominican Republic.

Hi!! I am one of 8 siblings. And boy do I love to play. My mom was taking care of us best she could on the streets of Puerta Plata. She found a place under a deck to try and give us shelter and a safe place to sleep. A sweet woman named Rianna came and told my mom that there was a far better place to nurse us and keep us safe. She bundled up Mom and all of us and moved us to a placed called Coconut Hound Haven! It is great here! I have room to play and run with everyone and there are no cars or motorcycles running around.

Mayo is a very happy, playful, 9 month old puppy (D.O.B - 11/29/2018) . He loves to play with the other puppies in the puppy pen.

I am ABAYA and I am a Coconut Kitten!! My name means Refuge and people named ABAYA are full of power and good energy!  I am being home-fostered in the Dominican Republic. My short-haired coat is Light Brown, Black and a light Fawn undercoat. ABAYA was found with her 3 siblings (Ameha, Amari and Ade) and mother Amahle. Amahle had already had a litter on March 12, 2020. She is the mom of former fosters Storm Torch and Mr Fantastic. She was no where to be found when the kittens were picked up when someone was threatening to poison them.😢 Well. Fast forward 4 months and we found ourselves in the same situation. Amahle had given birth to 4 more kittens. And once again the same threat existed. 😢 One of our volunteers Frandy Hylaris went into Charamicos to look for them. He found Amahle first and took her home. He went back for days and days and eventually found the babies. STAY TUNED FOR THE RESCUE VIDEO BELOW as well as pics of the next generation of X (Men) Cats.  ABAYA is approximately 9 weeks old (we estimate her date of birth to be June 27, 2020) and weighs approximately 2.5 pounds. ABAYA will be brought up to date on her vaccinations and spayed as soon as she is the right age and weight. If you are looking for a forever friend - I might just be the right kitten for you? CLICK on my link to put in your adoption request. ABAYA is available for adoption in Canada, the US and on-Island. HI THERE - I am AYAMI a Coconut Kitten and I am being home-fostered in the Dominican Republic. My short to medium haired coat is Orange and White. AYAMI was found abandoned together with her 2 sisters Maíz and Beany near a baseball field in Puerto Plata. Ayami's smaller sister came wobbling and crying towards us, looking for food. At first glance, it was obvious how frail they were and we took them in. They were severely underweight, riddled with fleas and all three had an upper respiratory and eye infection, all of which was successfully treated. Ayami and her sisters are now a happy and healthy bunch and enjoy their kitten days to the fullest, the only thing missing is a loving forever home, either together or separate with another feline friend. AYAMI is a very playful kitten who is curious about her surroundings. Anything new is a toy or an adventure. She loves getting attention and falls asleep on one's arm when being cradled like a baby. In one picture you can see her sleeping with her little sister Beany! AYAMI is approximately 2 months old (we estimate her date of birth to be May 2nd, 2020) and weighs approximately 1 kgs (just over 2 pounds). AYAMI is up to date on their vaccinations and will soon be spayed. AYAMI is also already house-trained. She gets along with cats, dogs and children. Hello my name is BAILEE and I am being fostered at Coconut Hound Haven in the Dominican Republic.  I am a truely gorgeous Brindle girl tjat is Brown and Tan who we suspect has Staffie/Bully mix in her. I am a cuddle bug and want nothing more than to please my human. I was given to the rescue by my owner who could not continue to care for me. BAILEE really misses having a mom or dad of her own everyday. My foster mom says I’m a great big, sweet kid. BAILEE would do best as the only dog in the house. I like most other dogs (especially younger ones) and play super nicely but I have a high prey drive as such I likely shouldn’t be around cats or small critters. I listen extremely well and I walk very well on leash. BAILEE like to be close to humans and she is a take anywhere kind of pup. My foster mom does say I would benefit from getting my Good Neighour Certificate and basic training. I am 45 lbs and just over 3 years old. (my honorary birthday is July 6, 2017). I have been spayed and I am up to date on my vaccinations.  Rescue note: Because we suspect Bailee has some Staffie/Bully Breed in her she will only be available in the Dominican Republic or the US where there are no BSL laws. Do you think you might want to be my forever family? If I am the gal for you please fill out an application form for me below let's see if we are the perfect match! show less

BAYOU currently resides at Coconut Hound Haven in the Dominican Republic. He is VIVACIOUS RED short-haired Coconut Hound that matches his outgoing personality. We would love to find him a FOREVER FAMILY before his 1st Anniversary at the Sanctuary which is September 4, 2020. BAYOU holds a pretty special place in many DCDR volunteers' hearts. You see....BAYOU was surrendered by his owner after being found tied by a chain, emaciated and then placed temporarily with one of our favourite people of ALL TIME - Doctor BOB - who also named him. Sadly, Dr. Bob died in early July, 2020 but he left a legacy of healthy cats and dogs in the DR, Canada, the US and around the World. After a brief stay with Dr. Bob in late Summer, 2019, BAYOU came to live at the Sanctuary so that he could gain more weight and interact with humans. BAYOU is approximately 4.5 years old now (with an honorary birthday of February 9, 2016) and he is definitely considered a larger dog - weighing around 70-72 pounds. He is neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. BAYOU's ideal home would be with a caring loving family with a large, fenced yard where he is the sole pet of the household. BAYOU says, "When they brought me to Coconut Hound Haven they showed me what getting pets and love is like and it is amazing! I can't get enough!"  He is smart, is house-trained and walks on a leash (instead of being constantly chained to a post). AND....  he is finally playful - he is a riot when he gets the ZOOMIES. BAYOU is available for adoption in Canada, the US and on-Island. Please understand when you are adopting a dog that DCDR relies upon the generosity of Volunteer Travel Companions to bring your new companion to their forever homes in Canada or the US. HI THERE - I'm BEANY and I am a Coconut Kitten. I am being home-fostered in the Dominican Republic. My short-haired coat is Orange and White and I have cute little Speckles on my belly! Beany was found abandoned together with her 2 sisters Maíz and Ayami near a baseball field in Puerto Plata. She came wobbling and crying towards us, looking for food. At first glance, it was obvious how frail they all were so we took them in. The three girls were severely underweight, riddled with fleas and all three had an upper respiratory and eye infection, all of which was successfully treated. Beany and her sisters are now a happy and healthy bunch and enjoy their kitten days to the fullest, the only thing missing is a loving forever home, either together or separate with another feline friend. BEANY is the runt of the litter and considerably smaller than her sisters, who are playing a bit too rough for her taste. She loves to play with toys though, and will melt in one's arms when being held. BEANY is getting the best of care and food and will soon catch up in weight to her sisters now that she is in her loving foster home - but may be smaller than the average Coconut Cat when full-grown (which is normally between 7 and 9 pounds). In one really cute picture you can see one of my "big" sisters snuggling up with me! BEANY is approximately 2 months old (we estimate her date of birth to be May 2nd, 2020) and weighs approximately 0.8 kgs (just under 2 pounds). I am BECCA and I am being fostered at Coconut Hound Haven in the Dominican Republic. My short-haired coat is a Creamy Tan BECCA was first rescued in July, 2017 from the port area of Maimon near Puerto Plata. She had 3 2 month old puppies with her.  BECCA had, had a hard life even though she was only about 3 years old at the time. She had obviously been run over by a car at one time - which resulted in her breaking her back leg and the same accident either knocked out her teeth (or someone did) breaking several in the front and most are simply gone. Throughout it all, BECCA was always loving and never complained about anything. BECCA was spayed and brought up-to-date on all vaccines before being adopted. Fast forward, 3 years later. BECCA was adopted locally. Sadly the owner decided to continue to collect local dogs on his own without having them spayed or neutered. It resulted in a dangerous hoarding situation for the existing animals - with a potential for dog fights. To cope, the owner was isolating BECCA in a second bedroom. We recently asked for BECCA to be surrendered back to DCDR by the owner. BECCA is now safe and happy at CHH - the wounds from the other dogs jumping on her have been treated and she is healing well. BECCA's date of birth is August 12, 2014.  She is great with cats, kids and all other dogs. She is sweet as can be and loves to cuddle. BECCA is great on a leash and is house-trained. She does have a limp due to the previously broken leg. BECCA currently weighs 35 pounds, but will be on a small "weight loss program" during her stay at the Haven as her ideal weight would be just over 25 pounds. If you are looking for an extremely loyal friend, who is still a very active and social dog - I might just be the right pup for you? CLICK on my link to put in your adoption request. BEECEE lives with 3 other cats at the moment. Books, Wannita, Seven and now little BeeCee. His rescuer and foster Mom writes: "Poor BeeCee was a stray that turned up at my house. He had a sister cat that he hung out with but she passed away - leaving him all alone. BeeCee was very dependent on her. Needing a friend, he turned to me. I could tell he wanted me to pet him but he was so afraid. But it did not take long for me to be able hold him in my arms. He snuggled right in and purred right away. BEECEE is such a sweetheart but my 3 girl cats often chase him and he is a timid fellow. I have made little tote houses that are covered from the rain and he loves them. I want so much more for him and to live with a human family of his own that he is so obviously craving. Often, he is curled up on the mat at my front door and looking in at me but because I foster over a dozen dogs at any one time - it is not safe for him to come to live inside." BeeCee's ideal home would be one where he could be a snuggle bunny. He is a bit nervous as he has never been in a home or had a litter box. All of this would have to be taught but is instinctive. He really loves human attention and wants to be held. I love his purring noises and how he just melts in my arms. BeeCee is a smaller boy at 8 pounds. He has been tested NEGATIVE for Feline leukemia. His birthday is June 1st 2019 and he is neutered and up-to-date on all vaccinations. He will be micro-chipped before travel. He is good with children, other cats and dogs (just not 12 of them at a time!) show less

CHIQUITA found her in the street in very bad condition, she had Mange and some of the people around try to help her with car oil, which make her condition worse. We decided to take her to the Vet, and when she completed the treatment we just could not leave her again in the streets so we decided to take her, since then she has come a long way becoming a beautiful and lovely dog. CHIQUITA is approximately 2.5 years old (we have given them her the honorary birthday of February 2, 2020 and weighs approximately 22 pounds. COGNAC is being home-fostered in BRANTFORD, ONTARIO. He is short-haired with a Caramel Tan body flecked with Brown and Black - just like the liqueur. His facial markings are quite remarkable with a lighter Tan around his eyes. As mentioned, he has short hair but even shorter legs! He also looks bigger in pictures - weighing only around 20 pounds. COGNAC, his 4 siblings (Anisette, Kahlua, Baileys and Brandy) were found as puppies living on the streets. They were running into the streets so DCDR volunteers stepped in. We have given COGNAC the honorary birthday of May 1, 2019 - so he is now just over 1 year old. COGNAC is neutered, micro-chipped and up-to-date on his vaccinations. COGNAC is house-trained, crate-trained and leash-trained and knows several commands. COGNAC really likes his ball so he is working on learning to retrieve .COGNAC was re-homed and fostered due to behavioural issues which his foster father has worked with him on for 5 months. During this evaluation and training time, we have learnt COGNAC is a dog that prefers to be one-on-one with his human - he is very calm and well behaved in the house. BUT, he must be the sole animal in the household and no children either. He would do best likely in a home with a fenced yard as he is not yet ready to go to dog parks. His foster father has said that COGNAC will need to keep up his current training rituals but that he has responded very well with all his training. Preference would be given to an experienced and/or patient adoptive family and ideally one who would continue further advanced training to live his best life. COGNAC is available for adoption in the GTA region - to those living within a 1.5 hours drive to the Hamilton region.  Please understand that because of the volume of animals we care for that your application will take up to a week to be processed. Please ensure that your 3 references and Landlord (if applicable) are aware that they will be contacted during that time - to avoid delays.   Thank you for understanding and for supporting DCDR. show less

This is DORADA - Spanish for Golden!! She is a very light Golden girl with a short coat. She is being fostered at Coconut Hound Haven in the Dominican Republic In the first week of April, DORADA's rescuer Michel was walking near the Playa Dorada Beach and saw DORADA. This popular tourist area was deserted. DORADA was skinny, hungry and dehydrated. He brought her food and water. She was so weak that she could not walk. They figured that if she could make it through the night, she would survive. He writes, "we continued to bring her food for the next 3 or 4 days. DORADA had grown stronger and was able to stand up but still too weak to be steady on her feet. Another few days later, she started to walk with a limp in her front leg. She tried to follow us but could not. After 2 weeks, she was able to make it to my house where I now foster her." DORADA lived with Michel, got to sleep in a cool and clean house. She is very alert and plays with the other dogs in his care. Michel recently returned to Canada and was unable to take her on his flight so she is now with us at the Haven. The perfect home for DORADA would be one that just gives her the love and attention she so richly deserves. DORADA has now been spayed, is up-to-date on all her vaccines and is house-trained.
