About Suki

Suki is currently being fostered at Coconut Hound Haven in the Dominican Republic

Suki is the runt of the litter! Suki is just 3 months old (D.O.B - May, 3, 2019). She is a bit young for us to really understand her personality yet. We will update as we see her true colours appearing!

Please understand when you are adopting a young puppy, they must be brought up to date on vaccinations and neutered/spayed before they can fly to their forever homes. This process can not happen until they are between 4-8 months of age depending on the dog. If you choose to adopt a puppy, please understand that because of the volume of animals we care for we can not provide more than monthly updates for you. We do appreciate how hard it is to wait and how exiting the process is for you. Our volunteers are very busy caring for a high volume of animals and don't get a lot of chance to take photos and be at computers for updates. Thank you for understanding.

Not what you were looking for? You can adopt a different pet in by using our search feature and adjusting the radius. Thank you for helping our animal shelters and rescue groups with pet adoption!

I am ABAYA and I am a Coconut Kitten!! My name means Refuge and people named ABAYA are full of power and good energy!  I am being home-fostered in the Dominican Republic. My short-haired coat is Light Brown, Black and a light Fawn undercoat. ABAYA was found with her 3 siblings (Ameha, Amari and Ade) and mother Amahle. Amahle had already had a litter on March 12, 2020. She is the mom of former fosters Storm Torch and Mr Fantastic. She was no where to be found when the kittens were picked up when someone was threatening to poison them.😢 Well. Fast forward 4 months and we found ourselves in the same situation. Amahle had given birth to 4 more kittens. And once again the same threat existed. 😢 One of our volunteers Frandy Hylaris went into Charamicos to look for them. He found Amahle first and took her home. He went back for days and days and eventually found the babies. STAY TUNED FOR THE RESCUE VIDEO BELOW as well as pics of the next generation of X (Men) Cats. They are roughly 6 weeks old. All are now safe in foster care. ABAYA is approximately 6 weeks old (we estimate her date of birth to be June 10, 2020) and weighs approximately 1.5pounds. ABAYA will be brought up to date on her vaccinations and spayed as soon as she is the right age and weight. If you are looking for a forever friend - I might just be the right kitten for you? HI THERE - I am AYAMI a Coconut Kitten and I am being home-fostered in the Dominican Republic. My short to medium haired coat is Orange and White. AYAMI was found abandoned together with her 2 sisters Maíz and Beany near a baseball field in Puerto Plata. Ayami's smaller sister came wobbling and crying towards us, looking for food. At first glance, it was obvious how frail they were and we took them in. They were severely underweight, riddled with fleas and all three had an upper respiratory and eye infection, all of which was successfully treated. Ayami and her sisters are now a happy and healthy bunch and enjoy their kitten days to the fullest, the only thing missing is a loving forever home, either together or separate with another feline friend. AYAMI is a very playful kitten who is curious about her surroundings. Anything new is a toy or an adventure. She loves getting attention and falls asleep on one's arm when being cradled like a baby. In one picture you can see her sleeping with her little sister Beany! AYAMI is approximately 2 months old (we estimate her date of birth to be May 2nd, 2020) and weighs approximately 1 kgs (just over 2 pounds). AYAMI is up to date on their vaccinations and will soon be spayed. AYAMI is also already house-trained. She gets along with cats, dogs and children. HI THERE - I'm BEANY and I am a Coconut Kitten. I am being home-fostered in the Dominican Republic. My short-haired coat is Orange and White and I have cute little Speckles on my belly! Beany was found abandoned together with her 2 sisters Maíz and Ayami near a baseball field in Puerto Plata. She came wobbling and crying towards us, looking for food. At first glance, it was obvious how frail they all were so we took them in. The three girls were severely underweight, riddled with fleas and all three had an upper respiratory and eye infection, all of which was successfully treated. Beany and her sisters are now a happy and healthy bunch and enjoy their kitten days to the fullest, the only thing missing is a loving forever home, either together or separate with another feline friend. BEANY is the runt of the litter and considerably smaller than her sisters, who are playing a bit too rough for her taste. She loves to play with toys though, and will melt in one's arms when being held. BEANY is getting the best of care and food and will soon catch up in weight to her sisters now that she is in her loving foster home - but may be smaller than the average Coconut Cat when full-grown (which is normally between 7 and 9 pounds). In one really cute picture you can see one of my "big" sisters snuggling up with me! BEANY is approximately 2 months old (we estimate her date of birth to be May 2nd, 2020) and weighs approximately 0.8 kgs (just under 2 pounds). BEANY is up to date on their vaccinations and will soon be spayed. BEANY is also already house-trained. She gets along with cats, dogs and children. If you are looking for a forever friend - I might just be the right kitten for you? CLICK on my link to put in your adoption request. BEECEE lives with 3 other cats at the moment. Books, Wannita, Seven and now little BeeCee. His rescuer and foster Mom writes: "Poor BeeCee was a stray that turned up at my house. He had a sister cat that he hung out with but she passed away - leaving him all alone. BeeCee was very dependent on her. Needing a friend, he turned to me. I could tell he wanted me to pet him but he was so afraid. But it did not take long for me to be able hold him in my arms. He snuggled right in and purred right away. BEECEE is such a sweetheart but my 3 girl cats often chase him and he is a timid fellow. I have made little tote houses that are covered from the rain and he loves them. I want so much more for him and to live with a human family of his own that he is so obviously craving. Often, he is curled up on the mat at my front door and looking in at me but because I foster over a dozen dogs at any one time - it is not safe for him to come to live inside." BeeCee's ideal home would be one where he could be a snuggle bunny. He is a bit nervous as he has never been in a home or had a litter box. All of this would have to be taught but is instinctive. He really loves human attention and wants to be held. I love his purring noises and how he just melts in my arms. BeeCee is a smaller boy at 8 pounds. He has been tested NEGATIVE for Feline leukemia. His birthday is June 1st 2019 and he is neutered and up-to-date on all vaccinations. He will be micro-chipped before travel. He is good with children, other cats and dogs (just not 12 of them at a time!) show less

BLACKY is being home-fostered in Las Terrenas, Samana in the Dominican Republic. His short-haired coat is Blackish Brown and his face has Tan markings with gorgeous flecks of Gold in it. BLACKY's paws and collar are a lovely White colour. BLACKY also has trademark Coconut Hound Ears that are big, expressive and move up and down. BLACKY has quite the rescue story. In early March, BLACKY was found at the Las Terrenas river  in a place where he could not climb out on his own. His rescuers climbed down the river banks to save him and brought him to Cocodog Vets and from there DCDR and a wonderful volunteer stepped in to care for him. His wonderful foster mother writes, "BLACKY is a very loving dog and has no problems with other dogs. He currently lives in my home with 15 other dogs all different sizes and ages. I would love a place for him where he has a fenced garden. His new owners should either be experienced dog people or be willing to work and train with him to teach him some basic commands through basic obedience classes as he is still a "teenager". Have a look at his short video where he shows off his ability to SIT. His only bad habit is that he likes to dig holes in the garden - sometimes - a typical teenager again! BLACKY is used to going in and out the house in the daytime and in the nighttime he sleeps inside with no accidents. Upon first meeting people, I think he will be very shy because I think he had a bad start in his life but he is very playful and funny and he loves to be cuddled."  BLACKY is neutered and up-to-date on all his vaccines. We estimate that BLACKY is approximately 2 years old and have given him the honorary birth date of June 1, 2018. He weighs approximately 10 kgs (around 22 pounds). BLACKY is good with other dogs and kids but has not been tested with cats so a slow introduction to another animal household member would be necessary. BLACKY is available for adoption in Canada, the US and on-Island. Meet BROWNIE - a light Brown short-haired Coconut Hound now being fostered at the Haven! BROWNIE was rescued from the very popular tourist and beach area called Playa Dorada near Puerto Plata. She lived with her rescuer Michel until he had to return home to Canada due to COVID. While there she finally got off the beach and slept in a cool and clean house. She is very alert and loved to play with the other dogs in his care. The perfect home for BROWNIE would be one that just gives her the love and attention she so richly deserves. She would love a home with kids. BROWNIE has now been spayed and is house-trained. She will be brought up-to-date on her vaccinations very soon. She is medium-sized and weighs approximately 27 pounds. BROWNIE is considered a young dog and her estimated date of birth is December 7th, 2018. HI THERE - I am CHARLIE and I am being fostered at Coconut Hound Haven in the Dominican Republic. Charlie has a half White collar and symmetrical face markings. His Black coat is stunning against his Brown and White markings! CHARLIE, his two siblings (Lara & Pippa), his Mother "MAMA" and friend Sugar were found and fed by a local couple in Cabarete. Mama and Sugar (also brought into DCDR's care the same day), were eeking out food by the busy highway between Cabarete and Sosua and relying on food scraps being thrown out car windows. At the time, his rescuers did not know that Mama had hidden puppies. His rescuer writes: "Charlie is 1 of the 3 brothers out of the litter of 5 from Mama. Charlie's father is said to be a very large brown dog with black markings and a white collar. He is known as a very strong and brave dog that protects a farm up in the hills above Cabarete. Charlie's two brother's Rambo and Broni stayed behind on their farm to be protectors like their dad. Charlie's mom, Mama (also available for adoption!), is a gorgeous dog with a white body and a black, brown, and white face. His two sisters, Lara and Pippa, resemble his mom's markings.   Charlie's 2 brothers Rambo, and Broni came out black with white collars and brown markings but Charlie is the only one with brown on his back legs.  I predict that Charlie will love meeting some new fun puppies to play with at the Haven and will take his brother role seriously with his sisters." CHARLIE is approximately 3.5 months old (we estimate his date of birth to be April 13, 2020) and weighs approximately 17 pounds. CHARLIE is up to date on his vaccinations but must be neutered before he can join his forever home.  CHARLIE is available for adoption in Canada, the US and on-Island. Meet Covi  ❤️  who is being home-fostered in Sosua, Dominican Republic. Her hearty warming story is below  July 30, 2020.  UPDATE! 🙂I can't believe Covi's progress over the weeks.  When Covi first arrived here we just let her be, destress, blend with the pack, get use to nice people, and enter the house without hesitation.  She has now taken it to the next level. I am very proud and happy for her.  Having her first social distancing visit last week with a lovely girl and her dog she did great.  No issues with being in a harness and on a leash.  She ever walked a bit.  Months ago she would have run for the hills.  We kept her on a leash at all times and she was  very happy and calm.  Covi went up to the other girl with her tail going. She really likes people.  Another huge step Covi has taken is sitting on the couches with us and the other dogs.  Check out Covi's profile and see the progress she has made from taking months to catch her to how she is now.  Proud of you Covi.   May 14, 2020.  21 days since we have had Covi in the house! ❤️ What a change in this little girl.  She is playing with the other dogs and getting more comfy in the house.  Covi really likes the other dogs and will go and give them kisses.  She likes to play with Princey and Butters.  Anyone who knows Butters will be shocked to see her playing.  Halfway through the video Butters needs to go get a drink but Covi does not want to stop playing.  Covi is certainly coming out of her shell more and more each day.  She is still looking for her forever home. Covi currently weighs 35 pounds, but when she is at her ideal weight we estimate that she should weigh between 40-45 pounds. We estimate that she is 2 years old and her birthday being April 4th 2018. Covi is now Spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations and micro-chipped. Covi's Story (April 24th) as written by her rescuer.... Meet Covi. ❤️ Covi was dumped a few months ago on the highway and gave birth to a litter of pups. She was running near the road for months. Huge success this week with this dog on the run! ❤️ We were able to capture her after a lot of hard team work and she is now safely in home foster care. Her rescuer (and now Foster Mum) tried to get Covi, just as many people had been doing but had no luck. 😞 I worried about her constantly. I started getting messages about her as many other people saw her and felt so bad for her. Of course I could take her but we needed to get her first. A few of the lovely ladies at the horse stables in Seahorse Horse have been befriending her and sent me photos of her. This was the same dog I have had many sleepless nights worry about! The photos they took of Covi were really close and they were having luck with her eating out of their hands. We kept in touch over the next week and she was getting friendlier but no luck with getting her. 🙁 I had found out just recently that she gave birth to a litter of puppies in wooded area nearby. 🙁 People had taken the puppies but Covi was still on her own and on the run. This poor dog needed a break and a loving family to call her own. My partner and I headed over the other day just to see if we could get her and chat with the one lady there who was doing everything in the world for this dog. She had a food station and bed set up for her. ❤️ She had mentioned that two nice girls who came in the afternoon could pet her. This was a great sign. We went for a much needed coffee break and then came back. Of course Covi ran from me when we returned when we spotted her in the field. But, the good news is that Covi went right up to the two girls and the one was petting her. 🙂 I asked if she could pick Covi up but I know she was nervous and I totally understood. I said to just keep petting her and hold her the best she could. I hopped over the fence as quick as I could and came in and made a grab for Covi. I had her in my arms and she fought but I was NOT letting go!! If it was not for these two girls I would not have been able to do this. Talk about aligning your stars!!! We headed back home where I kept Covi in one of my rooms for the night to She found the bed about 3 hours later. 🙂 She is a sweetie but will need a lot of work on trusting. She is with my other dogs but keeping her distance in the yard away from us and the dogs. We are really working and being patient with her so she can gain our trust. Covi had a vet check up the following day on April 25th. Her rescuer thought she had a sticker tumor but it was already treated in the past by someone who had brought her to a vet.  The vet could tell she was already treated by examining her. Her back leg was bothering her but the vets looked at that and nothing was broken. She may continue to have a small limp in the future. Covi's ideal home would be a very secure home. At the moment I consider her a runner/flight risk. I know in time this will change.  A fenced yard is a must. She would need someone who would be patient with her to adapt to her new surrounding and to work and train her on her flight issues.  We are working with her constantly on building her trust and confidence with people.  I know she loves people and is fine with all my dogs and cats here.  I do think she would love kids as she has a gentle nature. She is medium energy and is house trained. She is not good on a leash at all yet so that will need work.   I have already noticed so many adorable things about Covi. She really wants a home and someone to love her.  She loves the couch and snuggles in for pets and rubs. Knows her name already and her little nub tail goes a mile a minute when you talk to her.  When approaching her will lift her leg if laying down and insist on you rubbing her belly.  ❤️ Please understand that we rely upon the generosity of Volunteer Travel Companions to bring your new companion to Canada or the US. If you choose to adopt a dog or puppy, please understand that because of the volume of animals we care for we cannot provide more than intermittent updates for you. We do appreciate how hard it is to wait and how exciting the process is for you. This is DORADA - Spanish for Golden!! She is a very light Golden girl with a short coat. She is being fostered at Coconut Hound Haven in the Dominican Republic In the first week of April, DORADA's rescuer Michel was walking near the Playa Dorada Beach and saw DORADA. This popular tourist area was deserted. DORADA was skinny, hungry and dehydrated. He brought her food and water. She was so weak that she could not walk. They figured that if she could make it through the night, she would survive. He writes, "we continued to bring her food for the next 3 or 4 days. DORADA had grown stronger and was able to stand up but still too weak to be steady on her feet. Another few days later, she started to walk with a limp in her front leg. She tried to follow us but could not. After 2 weeks, she was able to make it to my house where I now foster her." DORADA lived with Michel, got to sleep in a cool and clean house. She is very alert and plays with the other dogs in his care. Michel recently returned to Canada and was unable to take her on his flight so she is now with us at the Haven. The perfect home for DORADA would be one that just gives her the love and attention she so richly deserves. DORADA has now been spayed and is house-trained. She will be brought up-to-date on her vaccinations very soon. DORADA is available for adoption in Canada, the US or on-Island.
