Bailee is being fostered in Sosua, Dominican Republic.   Hello My name Bailee. I am a cuddle bug and want nothing more than to please my human. I was given to the rescue by my owner who couldn’t care for me. I miss having a mom of my own everyday. My foster mom says I’m a great big, sweet kid. I really need to be the only dog in the house. I like other dogs and play super nicely but I have a high prey drive. Sometimes I can be a bit of a bully. I am working on it but I still need practice. I don’t do so well around older dogs. I likely shouldn’t be around cats or small critters. I listen extremely well and I walk very well on leash. I like to be close to my human and I am a take anywhere kind of pup. Do you think you might want to be my forever family? I promise to be super good. My foster mom does say I need someone who keeps my manners in line and isn’t afraid to be in charge of me. When I think I am the boss, sometimes I can get into a bit of trouble. I am 45 lbs and 2 years old (D.O.B - 07/06/2017). I have been spayed and I am up to date on my vaccinations.  Rescue note: Because we suspect Bailee has some Staffie/Bully Breed in her she will only be available for adoption outside of Ontario where there are no BSL laws. If I am the gal for you please fill out an application form for me below and we will see if you and I are the perfect match! show less

Elsa is currently being fostered in the Dominican Republic Hi I am Elsa. I am a gorgeous 15 month female who has so much love to give you and your family. I am tall and elegant but i am not heavy! I weigh 40lbs. I can run at the speed of light and jump like a deer. But the only thing I want is to be by your side all the time. I will follow you everywhere and I will give you the best kisses. I am very playful and I help my foster mom raising all the puppies she found and brought home. I am a treasure of patience when it comes to let puppies playing with me. When it’s time for dinner I get so excited that I jump up and down like I have springs under my feet! But I learned to respect all my doggies brothers and sisters dinners and I try my best to wait for the signal ‘go’ before starting devouring my plate. It’s so hard! But I have to be a good girl. I know the basic commands: come, sit and down. I am not a fan of the leash and I have never lived inside the house because here in DR the weather is so nice we can just stay outside and sleep on the cushions under the patio. This is why I would love a home with a big fenced yard. I am not a dominant dog and I am good with other dogs of all size and gender however if one growls at me i will growl back and defend myself if needed. So if you want kisses from a faithful and beautiful dog that will stick to your side no matter what....please give me a chance and adopt me! show less

They call me a special needs dog and they also call me Fiona. Sometimes I feel kind of funky and then suddenly I wake up and I am exhausted. I overheard them talking after they took me to the vet and they say I get "seizures" and that's what makes me feel funny and then so terribly tired. They gave me some pills and I haven't had a "seizure" since. My favorite thing is my pillow and my bed and if you'd be willing to give me belly scratches or give me a brush that would be heaven. I am not a huge fan of when people move too quick. I'm just the kind of girl who needs a little time to trust. I was on the streets for a long time and it's how I managed to survived. I know maybe I need a little more care and love than your normal dog but I promise I will give that love to you 10x over! Notes from her foster mom:  She enjoys lots of rest in her bed after she has had a seizure. If something exciting is happening she joins the crowd. Fiona is not in need of any medication for her seizures. They are too infrequent to use medication for. She has averaged a seizure every month or two for the past year. They are most common in early evening. They are short but afterwards she is exhausted and will sleep a lot. She needs to be provided with a safe place to rest. Since September she has had very few seizures. The vet has checked her over many times. They do not feel she is epileptic. They feel she had Ehrlichiosis, this is the Dominican tick-born illness. She has now been treated for this. She has not had a seizure since. We are unsure if her seizures will continue. When they do, she requires a gentle stoke and a soothing voice without any panic or stress. This is really all you can do. She does not need to go to a vet afterwards, just loved. She is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations. Fiona is about 70 lbs and almost 7 years of age (D.O.B - June 15, 2012). She is ready for her forever home. If you have a soft spot for a dog that needs that extra bit of loving, please consider making a home for Fiona. show less

Ivy is located in Napanee, Ontario. Hi there! I know they will tell you all about me in section below but I thought I'd tell you about myself too. I am smart and loving and loyal and it is very important that my humans are safe. When I arrived in Canada as a puppy my family wanted to socialize me but I wasn't ready to be in large spaces with lots of people and dogs around. They loved me and thought they were helping me but they made me super scared of everyone and everything. And when I was that scared, I nipped at people. Then they had to send me away because they were worried I would go from nipping to biting and didn't want me to be euthanized for being a mean dog. But I am not mean I was just so super scared and overwhelmed I didn't know how to let people know it. The rescue gave me to this woman Cathy to help me gain confidence and a nice man came over to help me too. And it is working!!!! I feel better. I am not scared nearly so much but I still don't like strangers in my space too fast or too soon. I know I am not that easy dog that everyone wants but I just want a safe place to be loved. A place to call my home. I promise to love you pieces and never leave your side. Please give me a place not to be scared and to grow. I'm a good girl I just need to be safe. Notes from foster mom: Ivy is a very energetic playful girl. She wants at least one other canine sibling in her home and she wants a large secure fenced yard or farm to burn off all her energy. Ivy loves to spend time outside playing. She requires a home with no children. She would do very well in an active family with a human hiker or runner! Ivy is a very smart girl and has a ton of love and cuddles to give. She responds very quickly to training. Ivy is looking for a forever home that is willing to work with her. She has some special needs that we would like to tell you about. Ivy needs to have an experienced owner. She needs an owner willing to continue her training in Napanee, Ontario. She also needs an owner willing to transfer care slowly beginning with visits, an over night, a weekend and so on. Ivy has been doing extensive training for almost 6 months now and due to her past issues, we need an adopter that is willing to learn and continue with this. In the past, Ivy has been very protective and does not like to have new people coming into her space. She has responded by being very nippy and barking. She may settle into her home quickly with the people she gets used to seeing and has become this way with any guests coming into the space. Ivy would require a home that is not a busy household and has as few people coming and going as possible. She would be an amazing companion dog for a single person. Her foster has put in a great deal of time and energy to curb her bad behaviour. Ivy is doing very well but she needs an adopter willing to carry it forward. Ivy needs and deserves a forever home but it needs to be with someone willing to commit the time to continue training. Ivy would be an amazing dog for agility or scent work classes etc. Ivy wants to please and wants a job. She is very smart and learns quickly. She has proven to have excellent recall and is house trained. She is a very eager girl and will love her person 100%. She is a very affectionate little girl. Ivy is just one and a half years old, about 25 lbs (similar size to a jack russell) spayed, up to date on her shots and microchipped. Ivy is currently being fostered outside of Kingston, Ontario near Napanee.  show less

Kambo is being fostered in the Dominican Republic at Coconut Hound Haven. Hi I am Kambo. I've had a lot of changes in my life lately and I won't lie, I kind of like it. I was born on the street and I have lived there since my mom left me. I never had a human to call my own and no one ever paid me any attention or gave me any pets. I didn't know that in some places that's what dogs are for; to love and get pets. I have a ball to play with that I LOVE. I really love when they throw it for me and then try to get it and they have to chase me. I love to play chase and I almost never let them catch me. When they brought me to Coconut Hound Haven they showed me what pets and love is like and it is amazing! I can't get enough! I hear that there is a family out there that wants to do just that! Is that you? I'd love to meet you. Notes from foster mom: Kambo is approx. 13 months old (D.O.B - July 8, 2018) and 35 lbs. He is shy at first, but once he warms up, he loves attention. He probably has never had human touch before, but now is loving every minute of it. He finally feels safe :) Kambo would do well in a home where he could get lots of one on one attention. He still needs time to learn to trust humans. He would love to have that special person he could count on. He has lots of energy so he would do well with a person who enjoys walking, running, hiking etc. A person who enjoys training dogs in order to bond and build trust and confidence would be fabulous for Kambo. He is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered and ready to find his forever home.    show less

Mabel is currently being fostered in the Dominican Republic. Mabel is back for adoption.  Mabel is a great girl and loves her people. She is  now 50 pounds and walks perfect on a leash.  Her ideal home would be one with another dog to keep her busy, multiple people in home and kid(s).  Her personality is very unique.  She  is a high energy dog which means when she plays with her friends she gives it 100%.  Running in the yard like there is no tomorrow.  Then there is the flip side of Mabel...when she meets you she will want to sit on your lap, be your best friend, will want to chill with you, be as close as possible, and sleep in bed with you at night.  Mabel was great with doing her potty outside at my house while fostering. She learned from the other dogs and caught on well. I have the open door/open living concept which means the door to my house is always open and the dogs and go potty in the yard at any time.  Mabel will need to be taken out a lot to go potty when adopted so she knows she has to let her family know when she needs to go.  She had a bit of trouble with this and needs to have a routine and reminders.  Mabel is also a "surface surfer."  What is this?  Mabel likes to take things that are left on tables, shoes and give them a little nibble.  The perfect person for Mabel would be someone who can be firm with her in training but still give her all the love in the world that she deserves.  My advice is to "KEEP EVERYTHING UP THAT SHE MAY GET,  SHOES IN CLOSETS."  I do this here and she is so great. Having lots of toys, another dog and multiple people in a home of all different ages would be the ideal home for her.  A yard or dog park when she can burn off energy.  It is so hard to forget that Mabel is a young dog and still acts like a puppy.  If you are interested in adopting Mabel please message adoption@dogsandcatsdr.com   Please message me for any questions.  I am looking for the perfect home for Mabel when this will be her LAST forever home.  Mabel deserves this after the difficult life she lived for the first 6 months of her life. Mabel's Story:  September 15th Meet Mabel! She was rescued along with her brother, Molton. Living their lives on chains destined for a life of breeding together. Their luck was going to change on the morning of September 15th. This was going to be the first day of the rest of their lives....a happy one! While doing outreach, we were approached about two dogs not wanted anymore. We took one look at them said "We need to get them out of here before the owner changes their mind and they end up in the wrong hands."  Mabel is approx. 7 months old (DOB Jan 22, 2019). She weighs 44 pounds and estimate to be 70 pounds when full-grown. Molson is 50 pound and estimate to be 80 pounds. She is a big puppy with medium to high energy level. She is spayed, UTD on vaccinations, and will be microchipped. She is house trained and walks well on a leash. Great with dogs, kids and cats. Her favorite thing to do is play with other dogs and be close and snuggle with you. She is a gentle giant. Mabel's ideal home is with children, another animal and someone who doesn't mind affectionate dogs. She wants to be with you and snuggle. show less

Maggie is currently being fostered at Coconut Hound Haven in Brockville, ON Hi there. I don't know, if you know how hard it can be to be a puppy in the Dominican Republic. My mom left me on my own one day on the streets and I wasn't sure what to do but I started rooting around in the garbage on the streets to try and find something to eat and I was covered in little bugs that made me itch and bleed. I really missed my mom terribly. A sweet woman must have felt sorry for me and she started leaving out food for me so at least my belly stopped hurting. It was hard though to find a place to sleep and I had to constantly dodge cars and motorcycles which is super scary. One day the nice woman who was feeding me picked me up and said enough of this life for me. She took me to a clinic (?) and they took me to a place called the CHH. They have fixed me up and I feel great. I am looking for a home to call my home. They all say I never have to live on the streets again. Note from rescue: Today at the DCDR monthly parasite clinic, a woman brought in a street dog that has been trying to find food in the garbage. She said it broke her heart to watch it look for food. She put out what she could for him, but she knew he needed more help then she could give. This girl, now called Maggie, approx. 7 months old (D.O.B - January 1, 2019) and is in much better condition. She is all cleaned up (fleas and ticks are gone), has started her vaccinations and been spayed. Maggie is an active girl who needs a fenced in yard to be allowed to fun freely. An active family that could continue to challenge her would be fabulous. Maggie can be a bit of a chewer; she does require chew toys to keep her occupied and out of trouble.  show less

Nino is currently being fostered in Hamilton, Canada Nino was taken into care after we found him injured. He was a regular client at our parasite clinics but had been hit by a moto and needed medical attention and proper care. He is currently not using one of his hind legs. It is not a huge injury so we hope after a small surgery he will start to trust and use his leg again with time and practice. His former owner admitted that she does not feed him at all and it showed. As after his accident he lost his ability to gather his own food as easily and quickly was losing a lot of weight. Nino also came to us covered head to toe in ticks. He was treated for tick disease and received an incredible bath form his boarding facility where he is currently staying until a foster steps up to show this sweet boy some love. Nino always gets along with the other people and animals when we saw him in town or at the clinics. His care taker at the boarding facility says he gets along with the other boarding dogs and is not a barker! Nino is a sweet boy who seeks out pets and would love to lay next to you while you stroke him. Nino was living in a home with a small female chihuahua and got along excellent with her. Nino would thrive in a household with a fenced in property as he is used to being a street dog and will likely carry the tendency of wandering with him until he’s used to a proper household setting. He is good with other dogs and I imagine he would do well with children. He is not cat tested but so far is a very sweet boy. show less

Ranger is being fostered in Ancaster, Ontario near Hamilton Ranger is a six-year-old (D.O.B - 08/24/2013)Cockapoo and is a local surrender to the Ontario chapter. Ranger was spoiled rotten at his initial home but was never taught boundaries. He was having behaviour issues because of this. He was surrendered so that he can find the perfect home and live his best life with an owner who can continue to teach him boundaries and love him forever.   Ranger is 8 kg, up to date on vaccinations and neutered. Ranger has possessive aggression. He has been doing training with his foster Mom and has come a very long way. He would benefit from continued training in his new home in order to understand his limits in his new environment. He needs an experienced owner who is willing to continue to teach him healthy boundaries. If you do not understand possessive aggression, please reach out and you can speak with his foster for details. Ranger is doing very well in his new environment and is a really fun pup to have around! Ranger gets along with other dogs. He does try to be dominant but once shown his boundaries does well. He would do best in a home without children and cats. Ranger requires a fenced yard in order to get lots of exercise. Lack of exercise may have also contributed to Ranger's behaviour. Since he is enjoying more freedom outdoors, he is a very happy boy. This will need to be part of his forever home as well. Ranger is a boy that needs a consistent routine in order to thrive. When there is a lot of change he stresses and it shows in his behaviour. With consistency in his day to day life Ranger will make a wonderful forever pet for someone.  show less

Sambuca is currently being fostered in the Dominican Republic.  "Hi, my name is Sambuca! I have a bit of a sad story. There were two nice ladies out getting animals for a spay and neuter clinic and saw me. I was running around and freaking out. I was dumped on a busy road because I was in heat and not wanted anymore. I had a suitcase belt as a leash and a plastic bag as a collar so no one would have to touch me. There were a few boy dogs around me which was not fun. The one lady was able to get me when I climbed up a big log that was on the ground. She held me tight and did not let go. I was so exhausted and melted in her arms. My life is now on the way to bigger and better things! YAY! I am a bit shy still and I think a fenced in yard is best for me now. Some people when I first meet them I will stand away and bark at them.  I am just trying to figure them out. Once I get use to some of the people I am nervous around I will be sitting on your lap. I like dogs, and people and kids.  I like chasing the cats here so a home without cats is probably best!! It is super fun playing with the other fosters. I am high energy and will run around like a little bunny. I will probably be best with a home that has kids and or another dog to play with to help me burn off energy. I am a little wee girl and won't get much bigger they tell me. I am 22 pounds, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations, and spayed. Once I have your trust I will want to be as close as possible to you and snuggle in. It is one of my favorite things to do. My foster mama has the open food bowl concept at her house and I have no issues with that. Please consider giving me a home! Love Sambuca! " show less
